I have a $25 gift card to Amazon that’s been sitting on my table since Christmas

    what book should I get?

I would want a truly great book, one that is the pinnacle of excellence and has an elevation effect

    anyone here have any recommendations?

"The Way of the Superior Man", by David Deida. This is a SR/NF handbook.

could be any of the above.. a fantasy book could potentially inspire me more than a nonfiction book for example

I don’t read much anymore tbh. Not since I started working full time about 8 years ago

Well, I would recommend The Case Against the Sexual Revolution by Louise Perry. It's the best argument I've come across against porn and it also helped me understand what was going on biologically speaking when I looked at it.

Another book is Emotional Agility by Susan David. While it's not about porn per se it has some good things about how to deal with temptations and mental health challenges.

I know none of the books are fantasy but I haven't read any fantasy except A Christmas Carol. One fantasy book I want to read is Wuthering Heights but I don't know if it would be inspiring. I've heard it's rather dark and weird but it interests me.

Alright, nice. Thanks for the recommendations

I’ll do some research on the books

I admit I have some prejudice against reading a book from a woman writer… not because I think they are any less of good writers than a man, but I tend to believe they are writing from their “woman perspective and worldview” which does not accurately depict a man’s perspective on a topic

do you think a woman writer can truly match the type of thinking a man has? I don’t mean in skill or intelligence, but I mean like how us men think and view the world

I've never really had a problem with reading books by women myself. I will say in her book Louise Perry doesn't seem to understand how hard it is to give up porn. She writes about how it's easier to give up porn than to give up fast food. I guess from her perspective is that you need food to live but you don't need sex so giving porn up should be easier. Still, she has the best arguments against porn I've come across. She argues against porn from a socialist and biological perspective which convinced me porn was something I should give up.

As for the Susan David book, I don't remember anything in it that didn't apply to me. She uses examples from her male and female clients and seems to understand both men and women.

    alright, thanks.

yea I’ve always kinda been skeptical so would usually stop reading a book by a woman quickly at anything I could point out as being “due to the natural womanly instincts” and not applicable to the majority of men.

I don’t doubt the women writer’s good intentions… but I don’t think they can accurately understand the sheer savagery we can sometimes possess instinctively as men

thanks… and yea I don’t mean I think men are like savages or anything.. I just kinda think the stuff we desire is different than what women desire.. like our deepest, unspoken desires

The Brain That Changes Itself by Norman Doidge. This book is good for understanding brain and addiction. You can read this if u haven't red this book earlier. I don't know the price of it. But this book can be helpful.

If I was looking for one book that would have like the most ROI possible I would personally be looking at a stand alone fantasy novel or something The Girl Who Fell Beneath The Sea, The Spear Cuts Through Water these are both in my opinion fantastic self contained fantasy stories. The benifit here is that you get a really nice story that is worth it for its own sake. The issue with say self development books is that it isnt really about the book its about picking out the lessons and the authors arguments and applying them to your own life they arent really going to change your life on their own
