Just a quick but powerful tip/suggestion for people starting out NoFap etc.

I guess I'd been doing this without even realising but a great tip for boosting your resolve is to visualise yourself fap free (or whatever you want to be free of?)

Try it, in whatever way works for you. For example just to get me started I set my tracker for a 90 day reboot, set up the tracker and then picture in my mind the tracker saying 90 days. Also I picture myself feeling pleased with myself throughout the whole process, dealing with withdrawal etc, whatever works for you.

If you try this or a variation of it try engage all the senses- what you will see, hear, feel, think etc and make it as real as possible. There's nothing new about this, athletes etc have been doing it for years.

Another variation is to send your mind forward in time and REALLY project it to where/what your goal is (the mind leads the body and so the body will follow?) I've tried this with job interviews etc. I've visualised myself being relaxed, friendly, confident etc then clearly picturing myself just after the interview feeling like I'd been the best I can. And it works.

There's probably loads of books articles on this so don't just take my word for it (and this is REALLY cobbled together on my phone which is really bugging me as screen keeps skipping/jumping!)

    Cheers

Very good thread/post, this is true and very important.

  4. I am not a visionary person, so I struggle to do this. And not just this, I struggle to imagine myself in 3 months altogether! :(

I battle PMO on a daily basis. I am not so concerned about how it will come after me tomorrow, or whether I PMO'ed or not yesterday. For me the battle is NOW!

Nevertheless, this sounds like an amazing motivator for those who can make use of this indeed. Good luck!

I'll have to try this- I also struggled with visualization- perhaps you need to have a few successful results from visualization before you actually become a believer?

Maybe? Just using your imagination helps. You don't have to 'see' anything as such as most people find that difficult. Write something down and go into detail covering how something would feel, look (describe it), etc etc. Use your imagination imaginatively;)

  8. Yeah it's name: visualisation is kinda confusing because it suggests actually seeing something. That's not necessary. Some guys can see things with their minds eye, some don't. I can, but usually I find it very hard to focus on one image. Even if you think about what you want to achieve and imagine that you are a porn-free guy. For example I use my inner hearing more often. Like I'm with some friends at a party and there are some people I don't know, and there is a nice girl in the group and we are talking about a bunch of stuff, and it comes to porn at sometime, and she says laughing that "oh come on, I know every guy watches porn", and I can look into her eye seriously and say "no, not all of them". And she'll be like "oh really? Tell me more." In this way I get her attention and she'll become my wife. Okay, that's fast but you get the idea.

Great idea on the visualization idea. I've never really thought about doing that before but I'll give it a try.

Yes! Good post jiltedjohn! Here's something that is a small example of how well visualization works. Very simple test. Try to turn your head as far as you can in one direction then take a few minutes picturing yourself turning your head 180 degrees. Now try turning your head as far as you can in the same direction. You will notice that it feels like you turned your head slightly farther that time for most of you. Because you did. That's the power of visualization. If you can visualize your success it makes it easier to get to your goal. I noticed some of you saying you have a hard time visualizing. You don't actually have to see it for it to work. You can imagine that you've just succeeded or the feeling of succeeding. It doesn't have to be a picture. It also helps some people to write it down. The more concrete you make your goal the easier it is to reach

love it, cheers. In Aikido, when you are doing a move, especially a 'tenkan' (turning and converting the energy/attack) move (see link at bottom of this post) you turn your head in the direction you want your body to follow and you send your attention there as the body flows where attention goes. Also, when you are throwing somebody you 'extend ki(energy)' from your fingers which literally means you think through the arm and send your attention as far forward as you can without using any physical strength at all and it is quite incredible how much power can be focused/generated with practice. Also I remember my driving instructor telling me to always look where I want to go and my arms will steer automatically (the body flows where attention goes!). So many of us already do it in some form or another. This kind of practice in combination with meditation will change your life and put you much more in the driving seat...just make sure you 'look' where your going (but remember you don't literally have to 'see' it!!)
