this is not so relatable to NoFap(I get anxious when I fap tho) but my story is...
i used to go to the gym consistently and have a diet until...
until I found out about my anxiety I got my first panic attack right after working out one day and I didn't know what is that, I really thought that I was dying and that was it for me.
Anyway, after that incident I stopped going to the gym for a while and I felt the physical symptoms of anxiety 24/7 for a whole month and I didn't know what was going on with me.
time went by and I felt so much better when I learned a lot about anxiety, so I tried to head back to the gym again and I did go there but I was still afraid to have a panic attack again so I worked out with light weights and as you know you can't build muscles when you're afraid to left heavy weights or do any hard workout, any time my heartbeat went a little bit high, I got so scared that I slowed down again and sometimes I even left the gym and went back home.
until I stopped going to the gym at all for a month now and I'm feeling even worse I really want to go to the gym again without being terrified of a panic attack.
I'd appreciate any tips from anyone who's gone through anxiety and still working out.

You need to find out what it is that's triggering the anxiety. When you work out, your brain releases something called 'endorphins'. It is a medical fact that working out can help one's mental health. If you just continue as you are and you don't do something about it, the anxiety will simply stay. It won't go away by simply hoping that it leaves. It's just going to show itself in your life without stopping. You need to take a step of faith; do something that takes you out of your comfort zone.

I suffer from social anxiety; that's how I know. I'm a christian and I simply have to force myself to go to church. I don't like being around large gatherings, but what I get from church is worth having to fight through the anxiety. You just have to force yourself to go outside your comfort zone. That's the only way anxiety can be defeated. Taking medication is not going to remove the anxiety, it's just going to make the symptoms less potent. It's the same with depression. The anti-depressants do not cure someone of depression, they just help fight some of the symptoms.

Even if it was actually lifting too heavy weights, go back and just keep building up. Going to the gym and having a routine is better than not going at all.

also though I agree with the poster that you need to address your anxiety.

Have you tried talking to a professional for help about this? Get help figuring out what is causing the anxiety and how to deal with it.

Stay mindful of what you are doing currently. It includes getting rid of any other activity that you had planned for but is pending. So, either do that activity or skip that stuff from your mind's to-do list.
Telling you from my experience whenever I assume to do something but bypass/skip that work and get my hands on some other activity, it doesn't feel like happening subconsciously and results in CONFUSION.
Though I have not done gym so far this could be the reason.
I did a little gym back then in 2020 for a week, I lost 2kg within 4 days and then I couldn't carry on for a reason. I wasn't stressed even after losing weight though I was there to gain weight.
Champ you will either guide ppl about the gym, why worry about small things be a big-hearted man!

How did you discover that it was anxiety/panic attack, and not something more directly related to your heart? Did you have a professional diagnose you?

Assuming your issue truly is anxiety, what if you started with a very small commitment to do just one set of heavy weights? Warm up, and then pick a weight you can only lift 4-6 times before failure. Just one set, and then see how you feel.

If you feel panicked, you don't have to do another set. But if you feel okay, you can try another set after a couple minutes of rest. Just breathe, listen to your body, and take it one step at a time. It doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing situation.

This has happened to me before…

now before the gym, I don’t drink any caffeine at all, no soda, coffee, nothing right before the gym

second, I make sure I bring food with me to the gym. If I start feeling a little weird, I eat some of my food

third, make sure not to masturbate or look at porn. I’m fairly certain that too much ejaculation affects the nerves… and triggers anxiety

Fourth, try to go to the gym when it isn’t as crowded. If the gym is fairly empty, I feel much less anxious

fifth, perhaps try listening to really calming music while at the gym. I haven’t tried this yet, but some gyms play music in the background and it is a hyper type of music.

so don’t drink any caffeine before the gym, bring a good protein filled snack with you, don’t fap or look at porn, go when it’s not crowded, and maybe listen to calming music
