I do rarely give book recommendations, and sometimes books do not help at all, or even make it worse. However, this book is really different: Self-Discipline in 10 days How to go from thinking to doing By Theodore Bryant It's now 7 years ago that I first completely worked through it and I can really say it helped. The reasons are: Mainly this is a workbook. You just don't only read it, you need to work through it. That makes a huge difference. The author looks at the deeper roots of your obstacles and the underlying fears and doubts. And he gives you exercises which really help how you find these fears. He gives further really good tips for getting more structure and plan in your life. You become aware that self discipline is actually a joy. Not "hard" work. It is funny and easy to read And although this book does not cover PMO or any other addiction, it in fact helps you to overcome PMO. Because the deeper root of PMO are fears, doubts and avoiding decisions. Once you understand this principle and become more disciplined, then you build up new patterns and the PMO pattern goes away automatically.
Thanks. I picked up a hard copy of this and will give it a read soon. Self discipline has been a big focus in my reboot and I'd like to hear what the author has to say. I ordered a few other book of the same ilk as well.
I'm reflecting on my past year and this book is the book that had a lot of impact. I could partly blame the book for me moving out on my own, choosing for myself and my greater nofap streaks like my current one which is somewhere around 2 months. I use a list I received through email and there the seventh section was the following "What was the most important book I’ve read this year? Why did I read it? What did I learn? Who recommended it?" . I thought I found it on nofap but I read it before this thread was made. I quess I just searched for books on self-discipline and found it or it was in another bookthread. I will read it again after I finish Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins. Other books related to nofap are: Think and grow rich by Napoleon Hill and Cupid's Poisoned Arrow by Marnia Robinson. I could say it is wise to look into the book just to make sure you don't "end up losing your ass" (that's an insider joke) The basis of quitting a certain behaviour and habit lies in the self-discipline to get something done. You hear fapstronauts talk about the benefits they experience as a result of nofap, I do believe that semen retention and absistence from PMO gives you physical benefits. That which you'll need to succesfully end the PMO behaviour you can use to excersice, walk up to that cute girl or honour other commitments towards positive change. PMO is simply one of the strongest to overcome and you'll be able to excersice your self-discipline in your process. @SnowWhite Book recommendation is on spot.
That's great to hear! It was for me the same. I think it's because Mr. Bryant focusses on underlying issues instead of symptoms, and he also motivates you to do exercises and thus to uncover these issues. A change comes into your life, when you are are actually doing something, not just only reading.
@SnowWhite: is there an ebook available out there? I searched Amazon and all I could find was a hard copy...
I don't know, but I don't think so. I have also the hard copy. In that case you are better off with the hard copy, anyway. As said, it is meant as a work book. I have in hand right now: It is spaciously formatted and it's more pleasant to have printed copy than a small Kindle ( I have a Kindle, BTW, I love to read prose on it) BTW, I recently read that students memorize better when they learn from hard copies rather than from e-books.
Just found it if anyone wants it. You can always buy it too if you want to support the author. http://library.atgti.az/e-books/soc...n 10 Days_How to Go From Thinking to Doin.pdf
