I am astonished to still see that highly qualified psychologists and psychiatrists continue to advocate that porn is not harmful and that more research needs to be done. Is this forum not proof enough of the devastation it is causing?

  2. They don't want to accept the truth... Porn changes your brain

  3. It is mostly caused by a sexual freedom culture. Psychology changed attitude to sexuality quite recently and need more time and more researches to examine threats of high-speed pornography. Some of them currently work on that problem, e.g. Phil Zimbardo (Man, Interrupted: Why Young Men Are Struggling and What We Can Do about It, Man Disconnected: How Technology Has Sabotaged what it Means to be Male), but it is still fresh. Porn industry has been developed faster than our brains and our science as well. And of course if 90% of males has masturbation habit, then a lot of psychologist spend their time in such way. In such situation it is harder to admit, that porn is harmful.

  4. There is good reason this issue has not been deeply researched and porn not official tagged as harmful. It has to do with few factors.
First one is that most people consume little to moderate amount of pornography, and negative effects are minimal. There is no porn epidemic out there as some assume. Maybe its coming with next generation but its not here yet.
In reality fairly small percent of the population experiences significant negative effects heavy pornography use. Same as alcohol consumption, majority of people consume alcohol in low to moderate quantities and at the ends of the spectrum some people are addicted alcoholics and some drink no alcohol at all. We know negative effects of alcohol consumption but we consume it mainly for what we perceive to be its positives.
Pornography use is no different, people use it to get specific benefits and you have to accept reality of the fact that it has both benefits and negative effects if you want to be objective.

Now if you think negatives outweigh the positives - you do not use it. Again same as with alcohol, if you drink a beer and then feel like shit for two days - you may say that feeling relaxed for few hours one evening is not worth the suffering for two days after.
If person begins drinking excessively then becomes dependent on alcohol his behavior is usually not driven by good reasoning, usually people that abuse alcohol or drugs or porn, do so to cope with stress or depression. This person feels worthless and sad so alcohol for him/her is a way to feel better emotionally so he can take the next step and in this case cost-benefit equation changes, drinking now reduces emotional suffering and alleviates depression winch is an amazing benefit compared to negative effects on the physical body. Yes abuse carries a huge price, but how can one expect depressed individual with low self esteem, which chemically means they have no willpower or motivation and impaired rational thought to make sound decisions. He is doing the best thing he can - improving mood so he has motivation and ability to think rationally, then as effects wear out he is back at the low point and has to get back out again.

Psychologists and Psychiatrists understand that pornography abuse in most cases is a coping mechanism and not the underlying issue, so they are reluctant to tag it as evil for good reason, significant negative effects are linked to much longer exposure than typical person has.

Humans do allot of things that are bad, like drinking Coke with 50grams of sugar and insane acidity or eating processed food and smoking cigarettes that destroy health and people have been told by experts and doctors not to do it - over and over and over. How far did that go?

You certainly got a point but there is a major difference.

It is has been scientifically researched and proven that overconsumption of sugar or alcohol will cause you health problems, therefore if you insist on doing that then you can consider you have been warned and you "deserve" what you got.

When it comes to PMO though...All these years I've never been warned of any negative side effects, besides losing my eyesight lol. Sure I could see my taste in girls getting more picky yet I would assign that effect on being "full", just as not wanting to eat food that doesn't taste that good when you already have eaten. On the contrary, I would more frequently stumble upon how M protects your prostate or how M keeps you "in shape" till you have normal sex with a partner. I can only tremble having the thought of people PMO edging as a way to prevent the much ridiculed PE yet they were actually digging themselves deeper in the whole. I remember reading articles about how getting close to O and stopping, giving it a little rest and going again would give you better O's. Why shouldn't I try it out on my own then (Thank God I didn't)? But research/articles or even a hint about desensitization or how it can cause ED? Nope... Not 1 in 2 decades. Sure too much of everything is gonna harm you down the way... but shouldn't there be a warning about how severe side effects await people when they overdo it?

During my recent visits in urologists and psychologists, not ONE of them brought up the subject first as a possible cause. The first ones would subscribe pills before saying it is caused by psychological factors and the later ones would blame it on performance anxiety. Even though 2-3 of them acknowledged it after I brought it up (I discovered it by accident even though I was googling solutions for more than a month), one response was that still it is not proven and since it is of neurological/brain nature it can't be accurately diagnosed on a person, and most of the work to be done is on the related psychological factors (anxiety etc).

Good point moulox! Hopefully the word will get out there and more research will be done.

  8. Dude the majority or doctors and psychiatrists are completely fucking incompetent, unless it's a life threatening illness or textbook disease/infection they are borderline useless.

Psychiatrists in particular misdiagnose mental health conditions all the time , there was a undercover study done where one guy went to several psychiatrists and each psychiatrist diagnosed him with somthing different to the other psychiatrist.

When you go to a GP/doctor with symptoms and problems they don't understand and they tell you it's all in your head or you are depressed, this usually means they haven't got a fucking clue and don't see your symptoms or concerns as something that they should care about.

I'm afraid for me, and for other ppl as well, it's not as simple as that. By observing myself, I can honestly say that PMO played a big role on sabotaging my sex life. That's like 12+ years of my life that I'm never getting back.

  11. Agreed you can never get that shit back.

All you can do is just go on nofap and expect a year or two before you're healed. Don't relapse and don't focus on it.

You gotta just say fuck it, man up and get it done. Rebuild your life so that the next 12 years are better.
