Why the human race is incredibly insignificant

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by Deleted Account, Jan 15, 2018.

  1. This is NOT a depressing post that should get you down. This is pointing out the facts and asking certain questions that contradict every single thing us humans do and believe in, including religions.

The majority of the human race is very self-centered. We help others all the time, after we helped ourselves. A true sacrifice is extremely rare especially in this day and age. Let's say the average human is 5'6". Now take a look at this link, comparing our size with everything (including the size of minecraft world for my nerds out there). http://scaleofuniverse.com/

This is just what we have explored and know of. There's much more out there we don't know of. I personally believe in the "multi-universe theory," where there's an infinite amount of universes out there. This means any, and all, possibilities can and will happen(ing). So there's a world where you are you living your exact life until the moment of some aspect (perhaps not having a porn addiction).

Ignoring this theory, there's other galaxies we know are out there and can't see. To really think we are so special is a bit of a stretch. Now, the religious aspect (which I don't really want to bring up, but its needed), pretty much every religion is self-centered with a mask of generosity. I'm a baptized/confirmed catholic that goes to church every Sunday (when at home w my parents). Now, I'm not a normal catholic bc I don't believe in everything the bible says. I believe in some things, but I think the bible is mostly figurative so that we can understand God (bc he's a force we cannot understand). And I certainly don't, under any circumstance, do whatever the Pope says. I don't agree with how much money the Church has too. Why on earth would the church need all of that money? Give it away if you actually cared about that stuff.

This got a little off-topic, but the ideal thing is to "live the way Jesus wants you to live" and then you get to go to heaven. See, every religion has this factor (besides perhaps Hinduism). The factor in which you do good and help others but then end up going to a better place when you pass(heaven, nirvana, good reincarnation). And the factor of God loves every single one of us.. Okay I'll take that indirectly. I don't think he knows all of us by name specifically and watches over us in that sense. Also, people pray to help themselves or others in tough situations. You should be praying to God for thanks, if you're into praying. Bad things happen all the time, as well as really good things. You can't pick and choose which "God" is responsible for.

Ignore religious stuff, im not religious. I'm just saying we are so insignificantly small. This isn't a depressing post bc now you can just make an impact on what you'd like. I realize situations i stressed over are not significant whatsoever. Just live your life. It's relieving.

  3. Let me ask you a question, how big would we need to be in order to be considered significant to a God? I figure if you can say we're insignificant then you can likewise provide us with the size needed to be significant. If you can't provide that then on what authority do you claim we're insignificant?

  5. I also love the irony of calling religions self-centered but then ending your rant with "ignore religious stuff...just live your life.". Could it be that youre incapable of being religious because you're too self-centered?

  6. The human race is pretty significant to anything who lives on earth for better or worse.

Sometimes my thoughts go in a negative direction in terms of where we are in society because the powers that be use negativity and fear to control us. Were not in the best state socially but I see tons of examples of selfless people who go out of their way to help other people every day. Dont let your local experience or what you see in media fool you into believing that this isnt true.

I sincerely hope that you don't view your life as insignificant. I dont have this prideful view that I'm some kind of universal treasure but my life is very significant because I have the choice to use my time and resources to help others and effect their lives positively and so do you.

I know there is a God and the religions are philosophies but you cant confuse religious philosophies for the shitty choices that people make. Its easy to demonize religions but if you compare what these catholic and christian churches do to what the bible says then you see a day and night difference. Many of these shady so called Pastors living like bigger ballers then US politicians but if you pay close attention to the way they function, their decisions arent driven by obedience to God.

If you claim to be christian and you dont adhere to the tennets of Christianity then at the end of the day you aren't Christian and and you're not a true representative of God or the religion. You cant blame religion or God if someone chooses to use their free will to live selfishly, lie and manipulate.

  7. So what? Predeterminisn?

  8. Okay, so God forgives all sinners (everybody) and they get to go to heaven. I'll take it, this was more of a non religious post but I got carried away I think

  9. I am no authority, and neither is anybody on this world. The pope, ghandi, me, you, nobody knows and will never know until the day we die (perhaps). I cannot tell you how big we need to be in order to be significant because I don't believe there is a size.

I'm not stating anything as fact, quite the contrary. Nobody has any idea what happens after you die, its called "faith." That's all we have. Now I was raised catholic, which I don't agree with children being "born into a religion," they need to find their own way. I believe in "God." I put it in quotations because I believe it's a force. The Bible personifies "God" (imo) in order for us humans to start to understand it. If you look at everything around us, everything is an absolute miracle. There's no way a "force" aka "God" didn't start it. "It" cares about us bc "it" started life and this miracle of a life, but I personally don't believe "God" is watching over every single one of us and knows us by name. Recognize, this is just an opinion. So is the catholic religion. So is every other religion.

  10. Lol, well I do have a religion. I guess I closely identify with "agnostic," but alright.

Could that be a possibility? Sure, it could. I wasn't and still am not trying to offend anybody (although nofap is a religious dominated website). I've researched alot of religions, trying to identify with one. I ask questions. My views change over time because I find out I was wrong, which happens all the time (same as you and everybody else). I'm saying that with religions, there is an ultimate goal. Whether earning passage to heaven or not is an option. It's an incentive.

What's with "Hell"? Some punishment for living a horrible, unholy life? Purgatory? See, everybody wants to go to heaven. Same with reaching a level of Nirvana and other religions. The only other religion I think is remotely valid would be Hinduism. But even then, there's incentives. You do know it's the oldest religion?

A couple weeks I visited a mayan ruin with a bunch of temples. This was around before christ was born. They incorporated their religion with (literally) everything they did. Well they died off, or a large majority. We look back at their religion and kinda laugh because it seems ridiculous. It's no different from anybodys religions/views, including my own.

When I say "ignore religious stuff... just live your life," I still agree with it but worded it wrong/offensive. I think religion/faith is a beautiful thing and I don't think believers should ignore it. Rather I was stating, in a more light-felt way than cynical, that to not take life to seriously because nobody (and i mean nobody) knows what happens after death. I was raised catholic and i will say catholicism is good to raise a child up in, but same as any religion (except Satanism lol)

Personally I think it's self-centered, or quite frankly naive, to not even consider other religions as an option.

  11. Yes, well with a conversation such as this you can't really not mention religion. It plays a part, or rather brings up a multitude of questions.

A non-religious post about the meaning of life :D

Right, and that's why your "scale of universe" link was possibly irrelevant, as well as the assumption that an infinity of other universes might exist. It's like rejecting your family because you find out some guy on the other side of town has a bigger one.

If size is ultimately irrelevant to you, then what is really your concern? Is it a belief that everything will eventually end and that when that happens your choices in life will have no lasting impact?

  13. I like this post. I don't necessarily look at my life as insignificant. There's alot of great, humble things that people do in the world. I've also seen firsthand horrible things done to people that make me question "God has a plan for everybody," concept. I've had good friends and myself had really bad things happen to us. Keep in mind, i have a great life and I love my life because I am b-l-e-s-s-e-d and i recognize that. I think God had an ultimate plan for the human race or our galaxy for that matter. If that makes any sense.

  14. I had a concern about this, i assume you mean everything will end meaning when i die. To be frank, I am not afraid of death. I used to be very afraid, terrified actually, but I have come to terms with it. This post was more a realization for me and i shared it. Perhaps when I get a family of my own (wife & kids) that view would change. But I don't really care. I dont want to die by any means, i still have things to do, but if it happens it happens. My impact wouldnt be on a global scale. If I made the people around me and family happy then ive succeeded. Which i havent done yet

Actually, I meant an assumption that humanity/life in the universe will eventually end altogether. Of course your life has an impact after your death. Society flourishes when men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.

  16. The world is ending?! Jk. Oh well this isn't a concern, rather the opposite imo. Then it's just about living the best life you can live until the day you die. It really is out of your hands. Just keep on

I understand that you are not expressing concern in the sense of worrying, by asking "what is your real concern" I meant "what is the important observation about existence that renders it insignificant", if you have conceded to @Reinheit that scale is irrelevant.

Personally, I think that living only for oneself is the most meaningless existence possible.

  19. The scale that man was referring to was specifically about God. I conceded the scale was irrelevant in that case bc God doesn't know me personally. There's no size requirement. I don't want to get into this again bc with religion, there's no debate. Somebody gets upset and we move on thinking what we did before.

I didn't say our existence is insignificant. Our existence is an absolute, pure miracle. Our existence is far from insignificant. But in the grand scheme of things, we are very tiny and probably there's bigger things out there. Espicially with the multi-universe theory, which I believe in. There's an infinite amount of possibilities, there's no end. I think we believe it's just us and all about us but it's not. I used religion as the best example I could.

I feel as of people are thinking I'm some depressed a-hole sulking here but this is a good thing in my eyes. Does it change anything about our lives if it's true? Not really, I'm still gonna enjoy my life and try to accomplish things that I want to do. Some of that involves bettering myself and people around me.

So in the grand scheme, we as people probably are insignificant to the bigger picture. But our existence still is a miracle and we are just on a certain scale and great things have happened on that scale. Like ants right. Ants are small to us but on their scale they do good things. They have entire societies and have a "queen" ant, but bc of their size relative to ours is their existence insignificant? No, but we are bigger, smarter, and more capable than them. Is this making any sense?

It's not a sad thing, it's not really a happy thing. It's just a theory

  20. Religions, scientific "facts" are all theories/philosophies. Nobody has facts to life questions and won't be finding any
