Who is the greatest bass player?

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by Deleted Account, Aug 29, 2018.

  1. Any style of music...who is the greatest?

My vote is probably for Jaco. Yes, I realize the obviousness of that pick, but he is really good.

Mine is a toss up between a couple of bass players.

    In no particular order:

    Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses)
    Dave Alexander (The Stooges)
    Mike Watt (Minutemen)
    Bootsy Collins (Parliament Funkadelic)
    Klaus Flouride (Dead Kennedys)
    Les Claypool (Primus)
Larry Graham (Sly and the Family Stone)
    Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath)
    Tracy Pew (The Birthday Party)
Simon Underwood and Dan Catsis (The Pop Group)
Timmy C. (Rage Against the Machine)

    And last but not least...

John Baker who made the baselines to this great and under-appreciated game

  7. Dookie was the first album I ever owned. It was on cassette because I didn't have enough money for the CD.

  9. Same here. After hearing the bass in their songs and then seeing Mike play his ass of on MTV, I was hooked. That’s why I started playing bass.

  10. Cool. I play bass too. I learned and excelled at jazz as my main style, but I still remember learning Brian Stew in my friends basement after about 3 lessons.

Funny that they are all British... but that's probably because the best ever rock bands are all British!

  17. Is that said by a Brit? Apparently the Floyd had to get a session bassist in for some of The Wall..
John Paul Jones, though, proper. Did the bass on the organ sometimes.
