My porn addiction isn't the type where I consume a bit porn everyday but the type were I go on binges (2-5 hours) on average every one to two weeks. This has been going on for about a year and three months.
Now I'm wondering what the "usual" extend of porn addiction is. Is my weekly porn consumtion above or below that of the average porn addict? I now that the way addictions show themselves can vary greatly between different individuals but I'd be grateful for any information. This is my first day on this website and I'd really like to assess how dire my situation is. If anyone could help me figure out whether I'm suffering from slight, average, or heavy addiction that would be greatly appreciated!
I'm especially worried about how severe the neurological/psychological damage, which all the pornographic imagery has caused in my brain, is? Is permanent damage already done or will I be fine after a few months (or weeks or years) without porn?
Thanks in advance for any answers!

PS: I should probably mention that I've already been watching porn before. About since I was 14. At about 16 I started watching porn regularly. The amount I watched slowly but steadily rose till I started trying to quit. That was when my bingeing behaviour started.

  2. The amount of time spend on porn or masturbation is not the best indicator of your state. You need to think about your mental health (depression, anxiety), how porn affect your life (relationships, interests, performance at work or school and how easily can you stop watching porn - probably not so easy, because you spend a lot of hours glazed to screen.

    Please check also this:

  3. This is typical behavior, understand that you are not after porn per say you are after a high. There is very little negative effect from looking at porn for 10minutes, you begin developing an addiction when they enjoy the behavior and begin to extend the duration.
This is no different from alcohol, you can drink a beer and there is nothing wrong with that, but when you get another and then another and then another... That is addiction and your body will suffer.

Most of the population uses porn all the time, and suffer minimal side effects, but some people develop an addiction where they use porn differently, they use it to get high for long time. (That is why it is called abuse, because you are not using something you are abusing it)

I suggest what I suggested to many, begin to limit duration of these sessions, and there is a wonderful tool for that called orgasm. Orgasm resets your dopamine levels and you will find it very easy to stop at that point.

The issue is not with porn itself, the issue is how individual abuses it. Same as with alcohol.
