What is actual Edging and should it be considered relapse?

    What is Edging actually? Is it going through the motions and then just stopping before climax OR is it involving in the motions regardless of whether a person reaches the edge or not?. What if we compare this addiction with other addictions like drinking, smoking, food eating etc. Suppose if a person has a drinking addiction and he takes just a sip from the bottle does that count as a relapse? Although he didn't finish off the bottle but he broke the mental discipline that he had set for himself by allowing himself to do so. Similarly in the edging process, there is always a willingness i.e., we allowed ourselves to initiate it. Should this breaking of personal committment be counted as a relapse? Suppose if a person has not climaxed for "X" number of days but during his streak he has been going through the motions once in a while. Will that affect the process of recovery?

    Here is the definition from the NoFap Glossary
    I think the term came from the practise of repeatedly bringing oneself to the edge of climaxing, and then backing away, as a way to prolong the pleasure almost indefinitely. I think lots of us addicts did that.

    But others here seem to use the term more liberally, for example
    ==EDIT==

    I forgot to answer the question "should it be considered a relapse?" That depends entirely on the boundaries you have set yourself for your reboot. This is your reboot, no-one elses. My rules at the moment are that I am not viewing any porn and I am not masturbating. So the definition I use of edging, masturbation without orgasm, would mean a counter reset. But @BreatheDeeply's definition, any conscious action we take which works directly against our recovery efforts, would not reset my counter since it would include too many other things (deliberately staying up late when my wife's away, watching films with pretty actresses in when I am alone, ...). But @BreatheDeeply would reset his counter.
