What do you do if you wake up in the middle of the night / early morning

    Hello,

    I am working on addressing my bad habits / routines to help me build up defenses. I usually have the most struggles when I wake up in the middle of the night, or early in the morning. I just lay there and try to go back to sleep, I can just lay there for hours. I guess I should just get up and move around? I'm afraid that if I get up I won't be able to go back to sleep, but I usually am up for at least an hour before I go back to sleep anyway. This gets worse if I have been watching porn, because then it's almost like I wake myself up to have some time to watch when my wife is asleep. I am trying to create new neural pathways to avoid common patterns of behavior. Any suggestions?

    Hello,

    After a long streak, I relapsed one fine morning and began to have the same problem as you: waking up at night and in a semi-zombie mode, take my laptop to the living room and begin long PMO sessions until the wee hours of the morning: this is my real addiction and it is very addictive because over so many hours of watching, the amount of dopamine released is enormous. Hehe, totally recognize myself in this:
    I have found 2 useful routines to address the issue:
    1) I go to bed every day at the same hour before or together with my wife (10:30PM for me). I started this routine about 1 year ago and I feel generally better as I get more and regular sleep. I have an alarm set until now to help the routine. I found it very efficient to set up an alarm.
    2) Recently because of the relapse, I found that going to bed every day at the same hour was no longer enough as I was (intentionally or not) waking up in the middle of the night anyway, so I bought a kSafe (look it up in Google if you don't know) and lock all Internet devices at home in a drawer and the key in the kSafe which opens itself only in the morning when there is already no time for anything but go to work.

    I received the device on July, 17th and I have one relapse to deplore so far (the hidden key relapse, I call it, as there was one key to our drawer which I hadn't locked: it shouldn't happen again as both keys are together now).It certainly would have been much worse without it. As I explain in my log, I don't have my long streak mojo these days and I struggle a lot with urges, so the impossibility to connect at night or early morning is definitely a HUGE help.

    I keep asking to get one of those. I think I will. The zombie mode for me is masturbation. I will just lay there for hours masturbating but not orgasm as some kind of loophole. I'm so afraid of 'losing sleep' that I don't get up. I've read that you should get up and get out of bed, but I haven't done that yet. I'll have to consider any masturbation a reboot now to be able to get over it
