What are your thoughts about ASMR videos?

I saw a video of a girl lick a game console controller and all the guys around her seemed to like it.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess?

 

They're weird and annoying. I have a friend who does them and she asked me to follow her on YouTube. I followed her because she's a friend but I find the videos rather annoying.

 

I thought it was weird when I saw one with the whispering and the hand motions. Didn’t realize it gets weirder.

A member on here got hard and ejaculated to an asmr(that did not have a female) video. I typed in asmr on youtube and almost all the thumbnails had females on them. I clicked on one and I felt weird but in a good way. I could see how, for men, these videos would trigger something. I advised the member to stay away and I will stay away from them too.

It is kind of weird to watch because an ASMR is an audible thing, so seeing how the sounds are made just comes with the platform. I personally get passive aggressive for some reason when I hear mouth sounds and smacking sounds and such (in general), although it does seem to trigger an ASMR for a lot of people. That being said, I think the sexual trigger-potential depends on the type of ASMR. Mouth sounds and tapping sounds are clearly just made as audible triggers for an ASMR, others like roleplaying and whispering fall more into the sexual/sensual category, not to mention that there is actual 'erotic ASMR' which is basically porn.

 

A lot of the ones that originally started ASMR said that they were disappointed it was fetishised and turned into something erotic, it used to be about something else entirely (like calming folks anxiety or putting them at ease from stress) until others ruined it like everything else on this planet.

While I don’t find it weird I do know I can’t stand any of those noises as it bloody makes my anxiety rise as it’s too much stimulation, maybe if I didn’t have sensory issues I might enjoy them who knows.

 

Well as I said it was never meant to be that way, people find every bloody way to forcefully and purposefully pervert everything they are able to.

I see no correlation whatsoever to porn and don’t have an issue with it, all I see is a person whispering into a mic while doing things to make noises. And honestly I don’t expect anything, if your mind goes to a sexual place from just that isn’t that more that persons issue rather than theirs?

 

Autonomous sensory meridian response, ala Bob Ross and the Joy of Painting, I'd say it's calming to some people, blood boiling to others. Whatever floats your boat, I particularly tend to enjoy some of them, mostly Bob Ross and the sound of him painting. I've heard that the slight sensory input gives a little euphoria that can make people feel at ease.

 

I think this is connected to what I said, if the ASMRist (?) chooses to make the noises also visual by showing a video of themselves, then the visual aspect can be a potential sexual trigger, because by nature men will always feel sexually drawn to an attractive woman and a 'sensual' female voice, even if it also triggers "brain tingles" in form of an ASMR. But you are right that it's the person's own responsibility not to be sexually triggered if they don't want to be, so if they can't handle just focusing on the audible triggers, meaning the noises and the brain tingles themselves without also being sexually aroused, then I guess they can only avoid those triggers altogether by not watching ASMR videos in the first place. Or as risk_taker says, rather choose a male or gender-neutral type of ASMR video, so it's easier to focus on the sounds only without any kind of sexual triggers.

I have yet to look one up, but I always assumed it's something to do with our mothers. Feeling safe, hearing her say soothing stuff as she does the ironing and we doze off...
