What are the benefits of going vegan?

Discussion in 'Self Improvement' started by Deleted Account, Oct 23, 2018.

  1. Captain Rex reporting. Hello fapstronauts. I wasn't satisfied with what I wrote on my last post so I felt obligated to write this post instead. This time, I wonder what benefits there are to going vegan?

Personally, I am no vegan myself but the last few days, I started to learn how to eat healthy. I started looking up online about the healthiest snacks to get at the store and my mom supported me about that idea thankfully.

And personally, I feel better so far, both physically and mentally. I don't feel like I'm feeding myself poison without even knowing. I'm much more cautious about what I eat as opposed to just a few days ago; and my body appreciates it!

Anyways, to all you vegan veterans on NoFap, I'm wondering what it's like to have a full on vegan diet? Should I quit meat entirely (non-processed or not) in order to experience the full benefits and glory?

I'm wondering because I don't feel like quitting meat anytime soon because I hear about the Okanawans in Japan who eat meat (particularly fish) as part of their diet and they are known to live healthy lifestyles and even exceed past a hundred years!

Plus, I'm also a big sushi and seafood lover. I love having sushi in combination with soy sauce (it's basically heaven for your taste buds depending on which kind). I also love trying new things and that means trying new meats as well (like alligator for example).

So overall, I'd like to hear your thoughts. I'd like to hear what it's like from a vegan perspective. Should I go vegan? Is it really necessary? I dunno, it seems like a really hard lifestyle change for me. Anyways, Captain Rex, out.

  2. Funny enough today I watch an interview with Alicia Silverstone and found she makes some interesting point about being vegetarian or vegan. Judging by the reacting to the video and her books, some people do not like her and I've got to admit I was cynical at first. But I think she makes a good point about how the consumption of meat is harming the environment and how when we eat meat we’re eating something that was feeling fear before it was killed. The question is is it possible that the fear the animal feels is transferred to us? I don't know but it does make me think. She talks about being more patient after becoming vegan. Is it possible that the food we eat not only affects our body but has a spiritual effect on us? Why is it that Adam and Eve never ate the animals in Eden?

  3. I was driving down a highway once and a truck of pigs going to slaughter was driving next to me. I saw one of the pigs faces and I actually had a bit of a break down.
He's bread to be killed and it's very sad. Am I a vegan, no? I'm not even a vegetarian. I eat lots of fish and try to limit my meat consumption.
I was watching American horror storing and seeing depictions of cannibalism really bothered me. It's amazing what hunger could actually make you do.
If you're a full vegan god bless you. Vegetarian same!
I think everyone should limit meat. It's terrible for the environment, meats not particularly healthy... And.. have you ever met a cow? They're so sweet and friendly. They just want to be your friend. They don't deserve that.

I'm mostly vegan. But I see too many malnourished vegans and athletes with proffesional dieticians who after following a vegan for diet for 6 years feel terrible and when the dieticia says they should eat some meat, they started feeling better again.
Something tells me some people, depending on how their bodies work, need some meat to stay healthy. That said, meat used to be a luxury product and I consider it such. It's a rare little treat here and there. If there's a veggie option I go for that 99% of the time. All of the food I eat on a daily basis is vegeterian/vegan, Only occasionally will my dinner contain meat.

I've been vegan for nearly 3 years now, and I can tell you for sure that the protein deficiency is a nasty myth. Plant based food, in many cases, has more protein per calorie than meat. B12 is produced by animals when they eat green vegetation, such as grass. But virtually no animal today is fed grass because it's not economically sustainable. So the meat on the market has no natural B12 in it anyway. It's added on artificially, just like fortified breakfast cereals, nutritional yeast or marmite. Red and processed meats are in the same carcinogenic group as cigarettes. The link between all kinds of cancer is so strong and undeniable that they are considered strongly correlated to cancer. And that is not to mention the risk of hearth disease and obesity that comes with meat consumption.

First there is the "the pleasure trap". It explains a lot about why vegetarian food gives you less satiety at the beginning and why that means nothing. It explains a lot about porn addiction as well.

It's a hard habit to kick but just do it. Check out Kurzgezagts recent video on meat "Why meat is the best worst thing", they don't suggest going vegan directly but that's largely because it would be financial suicide if they did considering how they make their revenues.

Also check out the CrashCourse on the philosophical and ethical considerations of eating non-human animals. Very well made video as well.

I honestly really enjoyed Erin's Dairy is f*cking scary video too, check it out.

NutritionFacts.org is well studied, well references source of good science on nutrition without the traditional mainstream restrictions and bias.

I hope this helps, I can give you some more material, some good science is out there too. Let me know if this does something for you and I can hook you up with more.

Humane slaughter is an oxymoron. I believe there is a lot of mental gymnastics going on in your post here. Have a look at some of the videos I posted earlier in this thread. Of especial relevance is the ethics of exploiting non-human animals. This is also worth reading since it addresses the term humane slaughter directly: http://www.savepoppy.com/humanemyth/.

I used to be vegan. You will lose weight as it's difficult to eat above maintenance calories on a vegan diet. You will also feel very energised due to the amount of plant food you're eating. HOWEVER, for me (and this doesn't happen to everyone on a plant based diet) I got anaemic after 4 months, then quite at 5 months. This was despite taking iron supplements and vitamin C to aid absorptoin. I say do it, your body may respond well, but if it doesn't after a while, maybe don't compromise your health for the sake of "sticking to your guns".

Going vegan is the best decision i've ever made. You can eat vegan sushi and it tastes amazing. It's one of my favorites to eat. I add avocado, cucumber, carrot, lettuce. You can add rice or quinoa and use hummus also.

The Okinawans are among the highest lifespan because their diet is primarily veg. The same goes with Seventh day adventists. Eating meat is linked to chronic disease like heart disease, cancer, diabetes and osteoporosis.

I'd recommend watching the above videos that human c-137 posted. Also a documentary like earthlings or dominion is available on youtube.

Here are some questions for you to consider:

How can you humanely kill an animal that doesn't want to die?
Would you personally kill an animal? If not, why would you pay for somebody else to do it for you?
Would you ever eat a cat or a dog? Why is this different from eating a cow, pig or a fish?
Would you ever drink dog's milk or cat's milk?
If we are made to eat meat why don't we have carnivorous instincts as babies?
Why is our physiology most similar to a primate who are mostly herbivorous?
Can we kill and eat animals without the use of tools and fire? Would it be possible for you to chase down a squirrel and rip it apart only given your hands and teeth?
Would you eat every part of an animal, skin, organs, blood and bones, like a true carnivore would?

  10. None, check all the ex vegan videos, most people will fuck up their health in the long run and age so fast by the the time they are 35 they look 45. Just eat a balanced diet fruits vegetables and meat poultry and fish and stay away from processed food and soda,'s. Most of vegan bodybui' derd are on gear, check out Rob Stuart for info I wouldn't go carnivore also, seems risky too. But no ancient cultures have ever been vegan..beware!

  11. no use arguing with tha vegans, they love animals just not the human kind.show me a healthy vegan in the long run and i show you a leprachaun. animals are our food , factory farming is a holocaust , i agree, but the grassfed animals and the ones you hunt yourself have a decent life and we are the apex predator, just a matter of being responsible with that power.

  12. and they crave animal products and meat thats why they drink all the milk like soycr ap and tofu sh t. the bioavailability of a lot of nutrients is just much lower from plants for us humans. hmmm why would that be?the argument of the intestines being like from a non human primate is flawed because they can digest and get their nutrients much easier from plants because of different colon. https://www.researchgate.net/figure...and-colon-in-modern-humans-and_fig2_272419339

It's weird how people refer to 'cavemen' and 'ancient cultures' nowadays as a diet or lifestyle that we 'should' have, and forget that ancient cultures people were lucky to live beyond their late thirties.
Now that we have an understanding of diet and nutrition that is based in science, their is no need to hark back to supposed halcyon days of ignorance and starvation. The healthiest diets are varied, natural and 90-99% plant based. It is unnecessary to base every meal around a great big slab of animal protein, unless you are a body-builder (which is not a particularly healthy pursuit btw). It also varies a lot based on genetics and lifestyle (eg a lot of people of Asian descent have a mild dairy intolerance).

Restricting diet will rarely lead to a healthier diet (you should be eating more variety not less!), but the vast majority of people in the West/America could do with eating a lot less meat and dairy, and a lot more vegetables, beans, lentils, whole grains, ..... so try out some vegan recipes!

Here is a website that details the health benefits of going vegan and the health detriments of eating animals.

Vegans do not need to take supplements any more than a meat eater does. All of the vitamins and nutrients we need can be obtained from consuming plants. There are numerous examples of vegan athletes and celebrities and doctors who live well past 90 and 100 years.

  15. Absolutely NOT. I repeat, do NOT go vegan. One should almost never give in to trends.

This retarded movement in the world that human beings should be eating many more vegetables as opposed to animal products is one filled with things ranging from misinformation to delusions of reality to bad advice from organizations, such as the FDA.

Now, for the first time in centuries, in many captital cities in Europe, America, now have pro-vegan education, vegan cafes, resturants, and other "positive" demonstrations about this lifestyle. And this is a very bad thing as to put it simply: veganism is controlled malnutrition. We're not supposed to be eating vegetables.

This should be obvious since as children, the majority of people in that point of their life despised vegetables. Sure, they were children, but if there's one thing you can say about them, it's that children are NOT indoctrinated. They don't supress their instincts in favor for an asinine idea they've convinced themselves is true, not always.

To switch to a vegan diet, you're actually going to risk extreme damage to yourself because in the kind of world we live in, you must take life to have life. It's why the lion eats the gazelle and it's why WE have to eat them. One of them is brain damage. Many long-term vegans suffer from some of the following:

    • Bipolar disorder
    • Chronic fatigue
    • Depression
    • Schizophrenia
    • And much more. Hell, upon request, I can link a video of a vegan sharing his thoughts about humanity. Spoiler: He ended up despising humans so much that he states he desires to stomp a baby to death if he ever saw one.
Developed all because of the misguided notion that we should be eating plant matter. What may be baffling to some is that veganism is actually supported in the mainstream media as well as scientific authorities in the sense that veganism is actually healthy! Leaving parents who read these sources to believe that if their child decided to become vegan, they must support it. Without knowing that they are really grossly damaging the mental and physical growth of their child.

It should also be noted that many vegans like to argue by appealing to your emotions, which makes the entire stance of animal rights a logical fallacy, usually referred to as Argumentum Ad Passiones. Arguments should appeal to the mind, not the heart.

Most people that start out vegan decide to completely cut out meat, usually because they saw some video on YouTube telling you meat is a horrible thing to eat or their friend decided to do it or some film about how animals are treated (which is an appeal to your emotions!) and in many cases, that's what tips a person off to go vegan. Yet one must beg the question of why do human beings have to justify themselves on eating meat when other animals (I use the term "other animals because human beings ARE animals) do not have to?

I could link a video right now of a group of lionesses ripping a pregnant pig open and eating her underdeveloped babies as well as her body. Why do we have to justify buying and eating a steak from the store, yet said lionesses don't have to justify devouring pig fetuses?

And of course, it's not as if we will eat a fetus. We can still eat meat and keep our sense of morality. The majority of human beings do. Hell, a Fapstronaut references this themselves:

Nobody with half a brain does. So with all of that out of the way:

When I said that veganism is controlled malnutrition, it is that in the sense of being a slow, gradual starvation of your own body. The reason why you may be feeling better is because you're eating less (if not none of it at all) of processed carbohydrates. Biscuits, cakes, donuts, breakfast cereals, etc. And its these carbohydrates that are the cause of obesity. Bread, sandwiches, pasta, pizza, fries. These are all things you do want to limit in your diet since they cause too much insulin in the blood. Once you have too much insulin in your blood, your body will produce an uncontrolled amount of insulin and store the majority of what you eat away as fat. And since you're eating "healthier", you may be doing just that, you're breaking away from these processed carbohydrates.

Sugar cannot leave your blood on its own. It has to be "escorted" by insulin. It is insulin that essentially takes the sugar's hand, tells it to come with it, and "opens the doors" for all the tissue in the body. Cells, muscles, brain, etc and pushes the sugar in. And then the cell can use that sugar for producing energy, which is why people like to carb up and consume sugar before a workout. It gives them energy to do so.

HOWEVER, working out will burn that sugar and carb away, so instead of your body storing it, it uses it up for energy. When a person is dumping huge amounts of glucose for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as in-between those meals all the time, the person ends up with too much insulin in their blood and thus, growing obese, and having to deal with that situation.

That's why you're feeling better. I don't know exactly what you are eating, but I'd wager you're not eating as much of these carbohydrates as you used to. However, you cannot maintain the health of your flesh by consuming what isn't even flesh all the time.

Speaking for myself, anytime I'd eat a salad, I'd always find myself becoming bloated and gassy, but I always ignored it because I believed that "greens were good", but we've come to realize just how wrong we were. I wasn't supposed to feel that way. My dad tried to go vegan once and he got really sick. He also found himself not being as intelligent as he used to be. He fixed this by going back to red meat. However, this story is anecdotal, so you're free to take this with a grain of salt.

You're a growing boy, 16 years old. You're going to damage yourself if you consume plants as plants contain estrogen-like chemicals, which makes your body process it as simply estrogen. Which is EXTREMELY bad for boys like yourself. The best way for you to eat is eating primarily protein from animals, but not too much in one sitting. Don't eat a steak, a burger, and a hotdog in one sitting, you'll damage your kidneys real bad if you do that.

Just have some kind of meat with every meal, drink lots of water, (right now in my room, I have tons of empty bottles of water that I really should clean up :p) and if you plan to eat vegetables, do it as little as possible. Think 80/20. For fiber, eat fruit so your body can dump out all the things it doesn't need on a daily basis and you'll be just fine. Hell, you'll do great. I'll bring more later if you're interested, but please don't ruin your life by switching to this extremely harmful diet.

You should also look into the testimonies of ex-vegans. If you're asking for vegan views, ask for and look into non-vegan views and ex-vegan views as well. Changing what you consume can be extremely dangerous for your body. You'll want to ensure you don't potentially fuck up your health.

  16. And thus, like you, we have to rely on what we see rather than what we are told.

  17. What food kids like are usually down to parenting and just fussy eaters depends on how you introduce them to a child. But I will say we should be eating a balanced diet with vegetables like at least some leafy greens for a variety of reasons, going full vegan to me is harmful but we shouldn't just be eating strictly meat, as that would have implications.

I was always taught a side plate of something green is good for fighting illness and other stuff which is true and has been studied, but to solely survive on stuff like that is another story. Have a look at their recipes, they're not very appetising or full of substance, you can quickly see why they're underweight.

Humans don't need to eat meat to survive, plain and simple. Just like how other herbivores don't need to eat meat. Human beings are physiologically more herbivorous than carnivorous. I sincerely doubt your claims about knowing people who went vegan and almost died. Veganism has existed since ancient Greece and India and perhaps longer.

Why are you saying that vegan food is gross? Vegan food is exactly the same just without animal products. All of the flavor in cooking is created from various herbs and spices. If you think "vegan" food aka plants are gross, then I challenge you to only eat meats and then tell me how you feel. Probably not good. So i don't actually condone that.

All animal flesh contains cholesterol which is the leading cause of heart disease. Heart disease kills more people in America than any other cause.

  19. its nonsense, just eat meat and if you feel sorry about animals get free range.

  20. hey smarty pants , life expectancy???late thirties??? thats cos of high mortality rate in infants .so if you have 2 people and one dies at age 2 and the other at age 60, the average lifespan would be 31, yes dont roll your eyes , get a math teacher. wont be discussing any cr ap here on food .just stop fappin! i will try the same , good day mr Plant, have a nice life!
