The word of God is clear on fornication. Sex outside wedlock is sin, punishable. That is where the problem begins. Many christian youths do not want to defile this clear commandment. But the sexual urges are all too obvious. So we masturbate!
However, "you are the temple of the Holy Spirit" and "you are not of your own, you were bought with a price" and "He cannot allow you to be tempted beyond your ability." Again, "we are tempted by our burning desires of the flesh" but "work out your salvation with fear and trembling".
It is hard to stay pure but we can through Christ who strengthens us. For he who began the good work in us is faithful to bring it to accomblishment. Be encouraged my brother, you will make it, especially because you are here to work out your way to purity and holiness. M is not a way out to relieve sexual build up or "to avoid sinning". It is sin already, and it hinders spiritual growth (my experience). God hates sin. Imagin you are there, fap fap fap, Jesus is watching and grieving for you, his friend.

See: Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled on the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?" Heb 10:28-29
I think PMO for a Christian is doing all that.
You also read Heb. 6:4-6, and the entire book of Hebrews is great for a Christian, and I have learnt a lot from James too.

I'm a Christian, but in my experience hearing how evil and sinful it is to fap doesn't help me stop it. I've been struggling with PMO for more than a year and a half, and when I try to tell myself it's stupid and that I'm hurting God, it just doesn't help. It's the wrong reason to quit.

The right reason is to focus on something else, and get our attention off of ourselves. And since this post is written to Christians, that would be reading the Bible, singing songs, and talking with God.

    God always helps us.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

    I Cor 10:13
