How would I feel if I were a woman and a dude starts whistling at my ass:

2 answers; 1)if it were Tom Brady, I'd probably smile and like it.

2)If it were George Costanza, I'd probably shout "EWW TOXIC MASCULINITY"!
fuck outta here with the lame questions.

simple: gillette releases and ad that conforms to the liberal agenda. The liberals claim it has nothing to do with normal (as opposed to toxic) masculinity. The conservatives claim it is just more biased liberal propaganda. It has to do with interpretation. I don't have anything wrong with discouraging sexual abuse, but after watching the ad it seems more like another attack on masculinity as a whole.

  4. Thanks for the video. I like Joe and his podcast. I don’t agree with everything he says though. Basically his two points against the ad are that he felt like it was preachy and that he felt as if it painted the majority of men as having these bad behaviors. These two things are a matter of interpretation and not fact. Given the context of the message in the ad Joe agreed with it; the message being “men don’t be d-bags”. A message he felt was common sense knowledge and didn’t need to be made into an ad in the first place.

Okay. I’m done now. Thanks for the discussion.

  5. Of course women do wrong things too but this question is specifically about men catcalling women. And since you say that we should always be respectful, you agree that it includes not catcalling women right?

  6. So you wouldn't feel uncomfortable that a man was objectifying you and invading your personal space? How about if a guy did that to a female family member of yours... would you be OK with that?

  7. Well she clearly wouldn't be married if she actually hated men, now would she?

  8. :emoji_joy: yeah, totally hate that song. Not like I was singing it at work today or anything. And clearly all my dude friends here can vouch for the fact that I hate them.

  9. Why do I need a time out? I've been contributing useful conversation in this thread. Hes just whining and name calling. We are not in the same boat here.

  10. I would just like to point out that advertising under the guise of promoting social justice is cheap advertising. Trying to sell a product through advertising doesn't imply sending messages about social justice to get people's money. Saying that Gillette's razors are the best razors because they have the sharpest blades would be fair advertising. I don't go around trying to sell my game collection and then tell people about social injustice in the world to get their empathy and manipulate them to give me their money. It's not mutually exclusive that I genuinely care about social injustice and that I'm trying to sell a product, but using people's empathy for social injustice to get money for selfish reasons is quite low.

Again, this doesn't have anything to do with the message itself, but how it is delivered, and I think critizing this strategy behind the ad is fair criticism.

  12. Thank you for your response. I think that is a valid criticism of Gillette’s advertisement.

  13. 1. One of those boys had to have been the attacker, while the other was in self-defence, but they both get branded as toxic. It doesn't matter tho because they were playing and laughing.
    2. NoFap hard mode is the cure for the black pill (incel woman-haters)
    3. That guy approaching wasn't the problem, it's that he did it like a lion taking down an antelope.
    4. Taking the women's side and expecting something in return, isn't nice, it's manipulative.
    5. Toxic femininity is a thing too and yes there are women that admit this and no, not all women are femcels (man-haters). If they are, they need to go to #2.
    6. Most of MeToo is against innocent men. These women need #2
    7. Yes, the left does hate whitey.
    8. No, I'm not triggered by this. Becoming a good man is going to solve this disgusting mess.
    9. Did I miss anything?

  15. - Gillette doesn’t care about politics or social justice. They knew the ad would start a shitstorm and create free publicity. They knew there is currently a debate on masculinity. They made the ad so that progressives thought it was awesome but conservatives got butt hurt, then progressives got butt hurt that conservatives got butt hurt.
    - I can see how the ad implies that men have always just stood back and tolerated bad behaviour. This is untrue and insulting. Men know how to behave with dignity and the few who choose not to are not tolerated. We aren’t dumb enough to need an ad to tell us to be good people.
    - I’ve never seen anybody say boys will be boys to dismiss bad behaviour. Boys should in fact be boys — what else should they be?

I wonder what King Gillette would think of all this. He was a crazy socialist. He even wrote a few books outlining his utopian vision.
