Hey all. I'm a lapsed musician trying to get back into playing, recording and gigging after ten years of depression. I'm realizing PMO has a huge impact on my mood, motivation and energy level and I'm finding it hard to stay the nofap course.

What I want is to transmute my sex energy (the energy I've been either dispersing uselessly/destructively with PMO or putting into having compulsive random hook-ups) into having the kind of creative drive and determination I had when I first start music in my teens. I remember knowing instinctively back then to not have an orgasm before recording or going on stage because the sex energy always improved my performance.

I'm trying figure out the key to turning that horniness into a desire to DO the stuff I care about, rather than waste time on fun, but ultimately pointless distractions.

I've tried to go nofap before... And I find can go for a few days, but then lose my resolve and cave with MO. That defeat opens the door to doing it again and soon enough I'm back to PMO and the whole cycle has started over.

Anybody else out there doing this to improve their creative work life? If so, I'd love to know your story.

  2. I am currently in the same boat as you creatively. When I was in my teens and early 20s I was in a few bands making music, recording and I was also really into my artwork and selling and making money off of it. I had an on and off GF, that I cheated on multiple times and Masturbated beyond belief (4+ times a day at least) to so much porn and sexting and phone sex with anyone, women, men, trans anyone. That never stopped but my creativity did.

I’ve been on No PM (I’m married so I still have sex with my wife) for 14 days now and in that time my sketchbook has filled up tremendously, I did two paintings and made a total of 300 dollars and picked up the guitar and found myself playing all my old favorites and picking the guitar up a lot more than I have in years. 14 days has been my longest streak in my entire life.

Set your goal for 2 weeks and see where you are

  3. Hi. Welcome to forum!

I do not currently do anything creative. But I definitely notice more energy and motivation in my daily life and work because of nofap.

Anyhow, make sure you create a personal journal thread in Reboot Logs section and blog there on a regular basis. As well as just generally be active participant in various forum discussions. I recommend this to everybody new here because it's the major thing that helped me when I was first starting. Just lurking on forums, reading and learning is great. But it usually is so much more powerful to engage. It helps to keep us motivated and accountable when we are active part of community. And keeps this in front of our minds so we don't forget about importance of it and slip away in our old habits. Sharing is also therapeutic. This is a major reason why AA meetings work so good. But that was developed before internet era. These days we can get most of the same benefits online through communities like this. So don't underestimate the power of active participation.

I would also like to suggest you to look into mindfulness meditation. It has helped me personally tremendously to learn how to deal with urges and triggers. It takes a while to get good at it and notice results, so you need to be consistent with it, but once you do it's very powerful. It has been used by sages for thousands of years to deal with various issues of the mind. Even Jesus himself meditated by going into silence and solitude and praying, then just sitting still and listening to God by being mindful. And in recent decades the science is also catching up to what ancient sages have know for centuries. Meditation these days are widely used as very effective tool by psychologists for treating addiction and by neurologists for supporting recovery of the brain. It is a great exercise for the brain the same way as jogging is great exercise for the body. Check out this Ted talk, it gives a good idea of what's it about when it comes to philosophy. As far as practical side of it there is this awesome smartphone app called Headspace for guided meditations to get you started.

Wish you lot's of strength and success in your reboot journey!
