Fantastic book excerpt on transmutation

I know, I know. When I first heard the term 'transmutation'--aka the process by which 'sexual energy' is redirected toward other things--I rolled my eyes. It sounded like pseudo-science to the 10th power.

But for the last week or so, I've been reading the classic motivational book "Think And Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. It's a little dated (it was written in 1937), but there was one chapter that I thought you guys would love. I've pulled out the best bits and included them here:

    *************************

Sex transmutation is easily explained. It means the switching of the mind from thoughts of physical expression, to thoughts of some other nature.

Sex desire is the most powerful of human desires. When driven by this desire, men develop keenness of imagination, courage, will-power, persistence, and creative ability unknown to them at other times. So strong and impelling is the desire for sexual contact that men freely run the risk of life and reputation to indulge it. When harnessed, and redirected along other lines, this motivating force maintains all of its attributes of keenness of imagination, courage, etc., which may be used as powerful creative forces in literature, art, or in any other professional calling, including, of course, the accumulation of riches.

The emotion of sex is an "irresistible force" against which there can be no such opposition as an "immovable body." When driven by this emotion, men become gifted with a superpower for action. Understand this truth, and you will catch the significance of the statement that sex transmutation will lift one to the status of genius.

The major reason why the majority of men who succeed do not begin to do so before the age of forty to fifty, is their tendency to DISSIPATE their energies through overindulgence in physical expression of the emotion of sex. The majority of men never learn that the urge of sex has other possibilities, which far transcend in importance, that of mere physical expression. The majority of those who do make this discovery, do so after having wasted many years at a period when the sex energy is at its height.

Intemperance in sex habits is just as detrimental as intemperance in habits of drinking and eating. In this age in which we live, an age which began with the world war, intemperance in habits of sex is common. This orgy of indulgence may account for the shortage of great leaders. No man can avail himself of the forces of his creative imagination, while dissipating them. Man is the only creature on earth which violates Nature's purpose in this connection. Every other animal indulges its sex nature in moderation, and with purpose which harmonizes with the laws of nature. Every other animal responds to the call of sex only "in season". Man's inclination is to declare "open season."

Every intelligent person knows that stimulation in excess, through alcoholic drink and narcotics, is a form of intemperance which destroys the vital organs of the body, including the brain. Not every person knows, however, that over indulgence in sex expression may become a habit as destructive and as detrimental to creative effort as narcotics or liquor. (was Hill ahead of his time, or what??)

It may be readily seen that ignorance on the subject of sex transmutation forces stupendous penalties upon the ignorant on one hand, and withholds from them equally stupendous benefits on the other.

I don't think it's confirmation bias, but I have noticed myself jamming more than playing popular songs on the guitar with NoFap. Not to mention discipline and wanting to learn more.

You could call this chapter an early NoFap blueprint.

The funny thing is, I have this book but never read it. In fact, it's the only book I own! I knew it was no mistake my mother gave me that book. God is great!!!

I have become somewhat "over-intelligent" post Nofap though. It's like I can calculate and predict things in my personal life to the point where i'm starting to think i'm controlling events in my world. Even my reflexes have gotten so sharp.....it's like...I don't know, but it's amazing. This stuff does come off as pseudo-science, but through personal experience, I can conclude it's real.

The movie Limitless, to me, has always felt like a movie about NoFap. And your comment reminded me of this scene:

It's not bad. It's a little dated, and some of the information will make you go, "well, duh ... of course having a vision is important if you want to become wealthy." But the chapter on the sex drive is really solid.

In the meantime, start reading more! Don't buy a bunch of books--just get a library card. There is a massive wealth of information available to you out there, totally free.

@SuperFan : This is very similar to the ideology i read from Osho. He means we shouldn't abandon sexual desire, instead give it too much power until it gets bored. (of course not too much to makes ourselves ill). Same as Osho's book, the article is more like giving us the definition or maybe some beliefs from author's observation about sex transmutation, benefits of it, and consequences of repressing it, however, not much of how. Idk if sex transmutation exists, anything is possible, yet even if it existed, how would we use it?

Maybe this example maybe not quite relevant, but let's take a look, you are passionate about one thing : really love a person, really love a song, just really love one thing/person, it is not easy to direct that passion into something/someone else. And we know sex desire maybe the most powerful passion, i doubt we can easily direct it to something else unless there maybe secrets to do it.

However, as i read some works from Jung, i'm kind of interested in the Jungian theories about personality, and i believe if a personality wants to reach a state of consciousness, it has to be conscious about the state of unconsciousness first, then fulfill other state, otherwise, that personality can fall into unconscious state without being conscious (ok i'm confused too :p). But that process is not transmutation, but that's process of fulfillment.

All i know is that every guy I know who went a year or more with no sex, and no MO got their life together and started making more money than they ever had before. Hands down the truth.
