Reached a Year, but a very abrupt ending

Well folks I said I was aiming for a year and I'm happy to say the goal has been reached. I'm not as happy as I thought however, because about 2 hours after I reached a year, I ended up relapsing.

I asked myself beforehand when I finished, how long can I last for now, seems like not very long at all. I think the triumph let the urges in and got the better of me.

I am pleased of course for being able to stay clear from PMO for one whole year, but really, I could have carried on for a while longer.

I was intending on getting myself something as a reward for completing a year, but now I don't feel like I ought to. What do you guys think?

I think I'll be taking a small break now for a week or so until I have another go at abstaining, but it won't be for as long as this one.

Another question is, even though I reached a year, is it still worth posting something to the Success page?

    Thanks everyone!

It's a victory brother! But know this, you are not perfect, and you never will be no matter how hard you try or how much willpower you have. And that's okay too, because Jesus was perfect. He came down here to us to live a perfect life because we cannot. Seek him.

    Thanks for that dude.

I think it has done. I think the best advantage I got was I that I realised porn, masturbating or orgasming aren't too important to me. Even though I broke in the end, I've got enough strength to be clear of it for a good amount of time. The other advantage was I was able to occupy myself very well doing other things and enjoy them more. What I will be able to remember though is that I was capable of doing something I told myself that I wasn't able to do. I said several times that I'd draw a line doing the challenge for a year. I thought it was too much. But I did it and I am very proud that I was able to pull through. It was supposed to be for a few months! :p

Did you see the woman attraction they talk about?

I've got so many questions ...
    • Were you in hard mode, i.e. no orgasming at all?
    • When you relapsed was it with porn?
    • Did you learn anything from the relapse that you could use next time?
    • Why take a break, why not jump straight back on the wagon?
    • What's your goal (e.g. a porn free life, magical superpowers, proving self-discipline, ...)?

I don't know to be honest with you. I'll be doing the challenge again very soon so I'll see if I notice it.

    Glad to answer these questions.

    • I was abstaining from porn, masturbating and orgasming. So hard mode I think. However not watching porn was most important to me.
    • No it wasn't.
    • I think the one thing to remember is the urges can be worse than one can imagine. I need to really make sure not to give in.
    • I feel that I've learnt that I don't need porn, masturbating and orgasming always. I know for a good amount of time I can go without. Even if I took a break, I know when I go back, it won't bother me too much. I won't miss any of it too much.
    • Self-discipline definitely. I know that's one goal I've achieved and I'm glad I have. I can easily tell myself now I don't need it always. They aren't a big deal. The other goal really was for me to just complete it. It means now I can say, I did a year. That will stay with me for a long time.

Just correcting one answer. The question to if I relapsed with porn is, no it wasn't, however it was in my mind. I don't know whether that counts or not.

Great effort... keep moving forward by viewing your relapse as 1 day in 366...

Awesome to get to 1 year, man! Remember, the goal of NoFap isn't merely to reach a certain number of days of abstinence. Rather, it is to rewire your brain and restore you to your natural state. From one year of NoFap, i'm willing to bet you have largely achieved that.

Upon achieving that, it's all about a balanced, natural life.

I guess what I am wondering is why not just quietly drop the no-masturbation rule? It has served you well, it got you to the point where you can say "I won't miss any of it too much". So you could keep going with the main goal, no pornagraphy. Then instead of seeing it as a relapse that ended a 365 day streak just see it as a change in tactic 366 days into a 373 (and counting) no-porn streak?

I think so. I know that I'll be okay without Porn, masturbation or orgasming for a good amount of time. I won't need it all the time. There may be occasions where I return to it, but it won't be all the time and it won't bother me if I don't watch porn, masturbate or orgasm for a good amount of time again. In short, it won't take over my life.

  16. I feel the exact same way. Just gotta watch out that you don't get sucked back into that trance.
