Testosterone does nothing for you if you don't have androgen receptors (ARs).

ARs are what allow your body to use testosterone, such as to develop a deep voice and other manly traits. Without ARs, testosterone is useless.

So I've been reading about porn, or namely frequent porn-induced masturbation, and its effects on testosterone vs androgen receptors. I seem to be finding the following:

Porn / frequent masturbation hasn't been proven, at least in the short term, to really affect testosterone levels.

    HOWEVER:

Overly active sexual activity/satiety (such as porn with frequent masturbation) has been proven, at least in lab mice, to SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF ANDROGEN RECEPTORS IN THE BODY.

    Here is the study: http://www.karger.com/Article/FullText/99250
    Quote:
"Sexual satiety is a phenomenon common to males of
many species; it appears after repeated ejaculation and is
characterized by a long-term inhibition of sexual activity

[16, 17] . A particular sexual satiety paradigm was estab-
lished in which sexually experienced male rats were al-
lowed to mate ad libitum with a single receptive female
during a 4-hour period [18] . During this time, the males
executed an average of seven ejaculatory series before
ceasing copulation. The recovery from sexual satiety is
    slow
: males need at least a 15-day resting period to com-
pletely recover their full mating capacity [17] . Following
this sexual satiety paradigm, it is clear that 24 h later, two
thirds of the population show a complete inhibition of
sexual activity while the remaining third is able to exe-
cute a single ejaculatory series without recovery
    [18]"

Guys, this is exactly what we've been doing!

We are like these lab rats, we're masturbating until we can't masturbate anymore, and then we keep refreshing our state, the following day, then the next day, any day that we can, without ever giving ourselves time to fully recover! This is causing our ARs to plummet and it's removing all of our masculine traits. If we keep jacking off without letting our body recover its androgen receptors, we will never know our true potential as men.

This is, in my opinion, why real sex with only one woman is good for you. Your desire becomes accustomed to the one woman, so you won't push your body to the limits with many partners (virtual or not) and cause yourself to suffer a lack in manliness from it.

The addictive nature of PMO, in fact, is why even no sex is better than this crap we've been dealing with.

Disclaimer: I'm not the first one to talk about this, but it was a personal revelation for me that this is the source of our problems. I gathered all of this from reading this article over at Your Brain On Porn: http://yourbrainonporn.com/selected-testosterone-research

I just wanted to share this with you guys in a simple and straightforward manner so you can be confident that there is a good reason for wanting to quit! I hope it helps!

  2. Great post, and it'll help a lot of people understand why testosterone related benefits are attained despite Nofap not causing testosterone increases. Also explains why confidence etc is not a placebo, and that more usable testosterone will naturally cause these changes.

You're right - it's really great to see that there is scientific evidence of this! It gives me a lot more faith in the NoFap benefits that everyone has been reporting, and I now feel a much stronger motivation to quit PMO. More than ever before.

Very interesting post, thanks for sharing. Another great reason why we should be strong and reach a P-free life! I wonder if the implications are different for someone that has been PMOing for say 5, 10 and 20 years. I mean the constant "refreshing" of satiety clearly acts against us, but I wonder if some more deep changes in how these AR work would exist for extreme lengths of constant artificial satiety?

That's a good question, Dave-o. Let's hope that we haven't done any permanent damage to ourselves. It would be interesting to see a long term study about this.

  9. Its great to hear a nice informative post. Thanks a lot.

I think its also interesting if we analyse the information in this post deep within our souls, and my thoughts is that I know its true. It also makes a lot of common sense that to PMO yourself to the point where your exhausted and need more and more diverse types of stimulation cannot be beneficial to anyone....

Often when people tell us useful information like this, we can feel that intuitively, within us as men we know that, yes, this is correct..

Where exactly are these androgen receptors? In our brain? On the parts of the body that are differenciated sexually, like the vocal chords?

  11. androgen receptors all all over the body..they are not limited to one specific area...even your eye balls have androgen receptors in them

Great information, thanks for the post.

  13. This is fantastic information! Thanks for that, I´m looking for more informations about androgen receptors / testosterone and PMO right now. Glad that I found this topic few minutes ago. Hope someone next will find this. :emoji_muscle:

  16. You have significant bias towards masturbation and it is reflected in what you say.

Lets start with the fact that this research is not on humans and as much as people say humans and rats share allot of genetics - humans are not rats.

Second this research is there to understand mechanisms behind reduced sexual desire after having sex, we know we have reduced sexual desire after having sex we just do not fully understand the mechanism.
The fact that we do not have sexual desire does not indicate we are impaired, it means we have reduced sexual desire and recovering it takes time.

You make conclusions and factual statements based on this research that researchers never mentioned or even remotely pointed to. You only see what you want to see.
