How do you deal with the curiosity effect?

I watched a lesbian porn to get that image out of my head. But i discoverd a new actress where my brain is saying. Watch vids of her! It got my curious what vids she has more, etc. This keeps a person addicted to porn.

So if you guys relapse how do you get back on track and not keep watching because you are curious.

  2. TRIGGER WARNING:

Wanting to see something you've never seen before is a HUGE obstacle for many of us. It's like you want to get that first "high" again and the novelty of something new is always
taunting you. If you've gone porn-free for a while, you might get triggered by thinking "There's a ton of new videos that have come out this month that I haven't seen yet. Maybe I'll just check out one or two on this site." And off you go into the rabbit hole.

I also believe (with no scientific evidence) that I get a bigger boost of dopamine when I am searching/find porn which is new. While the old stuff will do the trick after a while, "the hunt" is a very, very difficult thing to put aside. Simply understanding that your addiction wants to do this to you is very helpful. If you take the time to understand that's what's going on, you can tell yourself "Yeah. There's new videos. There will be new videos next month too. And forever as long as I'm alive. But I don't look at porn any more."

I can honestly say that the desire to see something I've never seen before is currently my biggest problem. I believe that overcoming that facet will be a tremendous boost to my recovery and I'm working hard to do that.

You gotta keep on trying your best I didn’t stop porn until I saw how pointless it was and how much shame it brought you aren’t missing out bro because it’s not real and it doesn’t add value to your life. I suggest finding new hobbies and do different things and there will be a point where watching porn isn’t even an option because you are too busy doing things you love and give you fufilment. As for anything that might lead to curiosity get rid of it things like tinder Instagram snap chat can show things we didn’t intend to see then we wanna see more in order to beat this it might require a lifestyle change. I don’t have all the answers I’m still figuring it all out too but after almost 14 months doing these things helped me see how much I wasting my potential and I’m grateful for it because it made me stronger and wiser and once you stop porn long enough you find out things about yourself that you never knew without pmo as a distraction because that’s all it is

It is tempting to watch a movie series when more are released. Porn is a never ending movie series. The mind uses the idea of watching new things as a trick to binge on dopamine.

Yup this is exactly what killed me a few times.

There a user's whos contented I liked. I knew when I was avoided PMO thay they probably uploaded more junk. The first thing after I released I checked that users content and it wasnt even that great lol.

Its all trick to get back in the PMO cycle.

This is correct. Dopamine is about the hunt. The orgasm isn't about dopamine, it's about endorphins and oxytocin.

You are aware of your brain wanting to see this actress therefore you are conscious of your thoughts and awareness key you can make a mindful decision not to give in your brain isn’t in control you are. For example I go to the gym weekly and see women in tight clothing my brain wants me to stare our take a look at these women for pleasure but as soon ther happens I make conscious decision not to stare because these women are not objects for my viewing pleasure they are human beings and unless I’m gonna go and look them in the eye and talk to them and make conversation I’m basically objectifying them and that’s no better than me watching porn it takes a lot of practice you will get there I’m not even there yet either

This is the kind of thing that happens to me all the time, the "obsession of the mind". Porn high is about novelty. What @BreatheDeeply said 100%. The addiction cycle goes like this:

Obsessive thinking, preoccupation -> planning -> acting out, getting the high -> depression (the crashing down low).

Than it repeats because obsessive thinking soothes the low. In porn or sex addiction, the low immediately follows the high, like, in seconds. Know that the obsessive thinking phase is designed to take you to the next level and so on. So, break the cycle there. Intrusive thoughts will weaken and fade if they are not "fed". Don't expect instant or quick results. You may have intrusive thoughts for days, weeks, years even but the mean time between them will increase. Just don't feed them and you break the cycle.

    Peace,
    -Quinn

Both thanks for your insight. I learned that I only find the girl good looking, as soon I watch porn of her I am think wtf am I doing. I dont find it plessant in any way to watch her without clothes. It's not even hot. I try this thought to counter my brain needs.
