I just came up with an interesting theory about rebooting the brain on no PMO. While surfing youtube the past hour and aimlessly watching random stuff, I realized that YOUTUBE MIGHT BE LIKE PORN FOR MY BRAIN!!! Not anywhere as damaging, but the way i've been clicking youtube videos and just mindlessly watching them to procrastinate my homework felt just like the way i used to surf porn sites to avoid my problems. I'd bet the dopamine release system is very similar between the 2. Im not gonna give up youtube, but from now on, only when i want to watch a specific video, and no clicking through related videos aimlessly for extended periods of time. Learning how to discipline myself on youtube will probably make no PMO much easier, and help the reboot process. Lemme know what you guys think about the similarities between watching youtube and watching porn, and if you also just realized you have another addiction. lmao. fook the internet am i right.

Yeah man, I just realized that porn was influencing the way I was surfing youtube videos. It was very similar, when I was used to watching porn I was opening lots and lots of tabs from porn sites from every attracted thumbnails to find the perfect porn, this habit was the same when I was watching youtube videos, whenever I see a sexy thumbnail or a very intrigued title, I would open it in a new tab. I remember that I read somewhere clicks and lots of tabs are a part of the addiction, so I forced myself to stop this on youtube too. Luckly, if you stop clicking on sexualized thumbnails, they stop appearing(or maybe youtube dont allow them anymore).

Ya i know exactly how you feel. I too have found myself mindlessly clicking on youtube videos while procrastinating homework. And i agree, it felt very similar to my addiction to P. This last month ive tried to limit my time spent on youtube. So far its been highly beneficial. Thanks for sharing something i can relate to. Best of luck to you brother.

Hello! It happened almost the same to me. I have been trying to stop watching since a few years ago because it didn't let me study or do homework. I changed it for youtube, 9gag, facebook, instagram, reading news... whatever internet had to offer. Actually, nowadays, for me it is more difficult to abstain from those things than from porn, but I know my addiction has its origin in porn and that it all is part of the same mechanism.
I read that part of the dopamine release during porn binge watching occurs during the time we are looking for the video that looks the most appealing, so with an addicted and conditioned brain it happens very similarly during the search. Every click, every swype or every down-scroll in you tube or other web sites, is like a microorgasm for the brain. And this can be as endless as the number of websites.
I invite you all to acomplish a reboot challenge that includes every compulsive/binge (unnecessary and without self control) YouTube/internet use. I have 2 counters one for PMO and one for internet binge/compulsive using, it helps me to stay motivated.
