Please Ask Yourself: Does This Belong Here?

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by Deleted Account, Nov 8, 2018.

  1. It seems to me some members are posting in the Off-Topic section without thinking. We're giving the moderators extra work to do by posting posts in this section that don't belong here. I know some subjects are hard to categorise but I've seen posts that are obviously easy to categorise. Like I've seen some threads about dating posted in this section here when it obviously belongs in the dating section. Also, religious posts don't belong here. If you're new you may not know about the groups, but there is a Christian forum in the Christian group and an interreligious forum in that group designed especially for interfaith discussions. Not sure about the other religious group since I'm not a member of them but for a fact, there's a Christian and interreligious forum.
Ladies and gentlemen let's think before we post.

Also, it should be said if you do post in the wrong sections you're at risk of temporarily losing your posting privileges. Alexandra wrote about it here.

  2. Yes! I would also add that people should use the search function to see if their topic has already been created before posting another thread. In the last several months, I've seen at least 5 different "let's talk about books" threads that are eall exactly the same and all say "I havent seen anyone talking about books yet!" I just wonder where these people have been that they havent seen the other 5 threads about books? And then those new threads dont get any attention, because nobody wants to go regurgitate the same thing they posted in the other 4 threads about their favorite books or what book they're reading.

Another thing I would add (which is actually what I thought this thread was about when I clicked on it) is to always remember that this is a site for people trying to quit porn. A lot of times we end up talking about some sexual things here, too, because they can be relevant to rebooting. A lot of people here are trying to reboot because their sex life sucks, so it makes sense that people might have questions about how to improve that or want to share their experience.

HOWEVER. We do NOT need threads like "wheres the weirdest place you've fapped" or "funniest sex story" or "do you shave your pubes" or (this one seems blindingly obvious to me, but somehow it's made it this far) "do you like nipple rings on women?" Like seriously, what the actual hell are people thinking this site is for by posting that garbage. I wish all of those types of threads would be removed, because they are completely pointless, add nothing beneficial to any conversation, and only exist to trigger people into thinking about stuff they're actively coming here to stop thinking about. It's one thing if a post is triggering but has value or is an important question the OP needs help with, but these types of posts are not valuable in any way, so they arent worth compromising with the triggers, in my opinion.

Sorry, that was a much longer rant than I meant it to be. I got a bit carried away. But anyway, I agree with you.

  3. I agree 100 percent, especially that last one. I dont know how that thread lasted so long

  4. I have few threads in Off-Topic,
Not about books, or booze, or cars, or anything i saw when i was scrolling. I really think they just need to scroll to the end of the page to see the relevant off topics discussions.

Create only if its new as @Castielle said.

I also, strongly, believe that this is not the only forum section that is often mixed up and confused. I read the success stories, lonliness, the problems sections and bloody hell, the "new to Nofap" sections probably once a week. The content is always mixed up. I remember commenting on a thread telling the guy to move his thread.

But Life Goes On... and so will errors...

Thank you for this post @Rio. I had not previously seen the groups section, because I kind of overlooked it. Fortunately, I have not blatantly created posts out-of-place, although I think I did put one in loneliness that got moved to dating. For me, dating is loneliness jk lol.

  6. That's easily done. I've just reported yet another dating thread posted in the off-topic section :emoji_rolling_eyes:

I dont think this post belongs here either..

  8. You can always report it if you like. I suppose it could go in tech support but it's about posts being in the off-topic section.

  9. Exactly. Some of the posts here seem like they would be better suited for yesfap.com (not sure if that website exists but not gonna investigate). I think the amount of user input is just too much for the small mod team and thus it must be the users' job to report inappropriate content.

  10. The groups really are underused. I swear there's someone asking for a spanish forum once every week.

  11. That's true. It's a fact if you post in the off-topic section about religion and it stays in the off-topic section for a
few days and then gets moved to the groups it will get more attention than a thread that is started in the groups. Hopefully, people who like to discuss religion will start to visit the groups more often. The fact is anyone who makes religious posts outside those groups is breaking the rules.

  12. Yeah, a porn site I used to visit had threads like that. We should try to show people grace but I do wonder if people want to talk about that stuff they do it on a porn forum not here.

  13. That's actually how I stumbled upon nofap in the first place, because I was looking for sexual stories like that to get off on. So, I mean, I'm glad I found the site, but at the same time, it's a bit of an issue when some of these threads are literally things I used to read as porn. That shouldnt be the case.
