Right, so I complained about withdrawals the last time and you guys told me to look up PAWS. I figured that was the cause but I have a few questions.

First off, how long does it last? What if you have a relapse while going through a withdrawal stage, will recovery significantly be hampered? Plus, what other insight could you offer on this topic? Thanks :)

It depends on how severe your addiction was. Withdrawal can be anything from 3 months to 2 years.

I don't think that a relapse set you back to point zero but try to think of the long-term benefits before you go for a few minutes of pleasure.

My advice on dealing with withdrawal:
    • Eating healthy is extremely important.
    • Drink 1.5-2 liters of water during the day
    • Try to socialize as much as possible
    • Always have a plan on what you are going to do when the urges hits (try to do something, read a book etc)
    • Try consider a good multivitamin if you don't eat very healthy (100% of everything)
    • Exercise (HIT-training helps)
    • Don't do this alone

  3. Whatever you do don’t relapse. Your mind, body and central nervous system has had enough and wants to temporarily shut down for repair. Relapsing with symptoms in 2012 only made things worse for me. I have only noticed things getting better taking recovery serious. Good luck.

  4. What @Big Lebowski said. Relapses aren't a good idea if PAWS is for real. If you relapse, all of your symptoms will either get worse or you'll experience some new, unpleasant ones. Porn and masturbation addiction affects body chemistry more than we all realize. If you do indeed have PAWS, now is the time to cut this habit out of your life. You'll thank yourself for it later on. Symptoms associated with PAWS tend to improve slooowly, over a period of months. Nerves recover very slowly. This is why it's important to abstain. The stimulation you get from porn and masturbation can easily undo a lot of the progress. Post acute withdrawal syndrome is a type of cycle if you ask me, and you don't want to be messing with that cycle until it's where it needs to be, in a certain number of months or even years.

Thanks, everyone. I haven't really had urges to go back to my old ways but that's probably part of the withdrawal. I started around 2014/15 and back then, it wasn't so severe, probably once or twice a week. Towards 2016, it went up to once every day and I finally decided to quit September 2017. Been quite successful from there on with long streaks and minor relapses on the way.

Is there any way to predict how long withdrawal is gonna be? How do I prepare myself once my urges return and flatline diminishes? What do y'all with long streaks do?

I started very minimally in 2012/13 but the intensity and frequency were very less, mostly softcore images. It got to every day by 14/15. Hasn't exceeded once a day ever since luckily.
