No PMO - It is worth in my case? (OCD+Tourette)

  1. Hello guys,
I discovered noFap last month and since then i've tried to find any sucess story for people who suffers from the same problem like mine, but i didn't get it.
I have OCD (Pure-O) and Tourette Syndrom (vocal and motor tics) since age 8. I developed anxiety and agoraphobia at age 17.
Many of people like these, who tried abstaining from PMO related increase in their anxiety, compulsion, obsessions and tics related to tourette and relapsed after all feeling shitty.
I wanna ask you if this process will be healthy for me. It will be worth or it will be more of a battle that will never end in my lifetime?.

  2. Withdrawals can be very hard, and can cause something mimicking anxiety disorders, phobias, MDD, OCD, and the likes. I had my first panic attack two weeks into it, also developed agoraphobia because of it and became practically disabled because of these disorders. Quitting porn is no joke and can be absolutely stressful. It depends on how long you've been using, needless to say withdrawals will be worse for someone like myself who was addicted for a decade, compared to someone who decides to quit after a year.

Nevertheless, pmo will always be detrimental to your mental health and I believe the withdrawal process will be worth it in the long run. It can be hell and I can imagine your symptoms inflating should you decide to quit. If anything I really do believe a pmo habit can prevent recovery from mental illness and even cause it. It's really up to you. You'll have to know where you're at, and coming here for advise is a really smart first step. It means you're thinking ahead and have informed yourself about withdrawals. This suggests you're a very intelligent person.

I hope someone will chime in to advise you on how to make the withdrawal less stressful, but I definitely believe that in order to see improvement in your afflictions, you'll need the habit removed. Pmo's definitely a life sucker, and can hijack your brain and make it rely on it for mental energy, so over time you grow dependent and it becomes your primary power source (not exaggerating). This is why people feel so unwell when they quit. It makes their brains function over time and the brain is set up to literally need pmo for balance. So yes, you'll definitely need to proceed carefully, but that shouldn't mean it can't be done or that you should stay addicted out of fear for what may happen if you quit. Again, I hope someone will chime in and give you better tips than this, but I really do think that pmo could be robbing you of the precious mental energy (the good kind) you need to deal with the disorders. Unfortunately withdrawal seems to be a huge obstacle in many cases, but I hope that with the right approach you can be free again. Removal of negative emotions such as shame and guilt can only benefit your mental health.

I'm guessing you're on medications? If so, these can drastically reduce withdrawal symptoms. So if you're on them anyways, I wouldn't wait until you're off them to initiate the withdrawal process as they could make it easier for you to deal with letting go of this habit. Meds can cause a sense of peace and comfort and even recklessness so you'll have to be very determined to quit while you're on them, perhaps even more than someone who's not taking meds. Believe me I've been on and off them and the willpower definitely increases off them, but that's only because there's no crutch and sobriety is very hard, especially the first few months. Just remember, be prepared. If you're going to do it and after a couple of weeks you find yourself in the midst of withdrawal, don't ever relapse then, it's a type of cycle and a relapse can act as a sort of reset button, undoing the process you've made.

    Take care

  3. Also man, forgot to add but it could really help you to look for any kind of underlying issues you may have, meaning brain irritants, ranging from any possible infection over food intolerances (don't underestimate this). Common culprits of food intolerances are things like gluten (wheat) and fructose. Fructose especially can prevent the uptake and production of beneficial neurotransmitters like serotonin in the brain. Science has now found a highly significant link between fructose malabsorption and decreased plasma tryptophan, which can cause or worsen psychiatric illness. Gluten can inflame the gut where appr. 80% of human serotonin is made. Not saying that you have this or should avoid any foods, but if you do simply changing your diet could change your life. Also, any unnatural dental work you may have had as a kid, have it removed. Root canal treated teeth are especially toxic.

Of course, it is worth to give up porn and not opening these gates the to devil anymore. Do you have Pure-O OCD? First time I see this on a forum anywhere. I have studied this exact OCD for maybe 2 years. "Intrusive negative thoughts" is the most difficult OCD to handle out there. You are already a warrior man. You can achieve whatever you want to.
