As the title suggests, I never honestly thought I'd be able to post this. I've had an account here on NoFap for a couple of years, but only posted once about trying to reboot. Since that post, I've messed up countless times. I've been pissed off at myself, depressed, anxious, and occasionally just completely numb - there were weeks where I'd look at porn every single day and end up feel completely alone and like the biggest piece of shit that ever existed and pledge to myself that I'd never ever look again but then wind up back on the same sites, watching the same videos of the same girls just a matter of hours later. Before I joined NoFap and since, I've spent countless days convincing myself that it was just one of those things that would be with me for the rest of my life, that it was a thorn in my side I'd just never be free of.

I know dozens and dozens of other people have written about it here in these forums, but the myriad of ways that porn messes with you never ceases to shock and horrify me. Porn left me a completely wreck, someone who wallowed in self-pity - someone who lost all sense of confidence and esteem, a lazy and weak boy who hated the world around him.

But as of yesterday, I've now gone 30 days without watching pornography.

I'm not trying to be overconfident as I write this because lord knows, I have a lot of work ahead of me and no doubt a lot of struggle and a lot of tough days, but this 30 day marker means so much right now. It's a sign and a light that this putrid beast can indeed be overcome, and I hope and pray that it's something I'll be able to carry with me as I continue through this rebooting process.

A couple of thoughts on what made the difference in my life that may be helpful to any of you reading:

    1) the biggest thing was setting myself a short-term goal. I've been single since the beginning of the year, but I didn't want to start dating again until I'd dealt with porn. So a month ago, I gave myself a goal - if I can go 30 days w/o then I can jump back in to the dating pool, and I honestly think that clear and basic goal made a huge difference and helped me pull through on many of the tough days over the last month.

    2) keeping a daily journal, not just tracking success with avoiding porn, but about basic daily things that I'd like to be better disciplined at, i.e. waking up early every day, reading every morning, working out five times a week, tracking macros, etc.

    3) Jordan Peterson's lectures. I don't know if his lectures and videos have been discussed elsewhere on NoFap, and I understand if there are those who are opposed to his ideologies, but for me personally, Peterson's advice, instruction, and lectures have been life-changing.

    4) lastly, reading so many of the brutally honest posts here on the forums has helped tremendously. Porn has such an isolating effect, but the forums here have made me feel so less alone as I've been dealing with this, so my absolute humblest and most sincere thanks to all of you who've posted here!

Dude, I felt this same way, but remember the road to success is paved with failure. It took me five years to finally get 90 days clean. Are you still going? For me, it helps to think of 90 days as a BEGINNING rather than an end. Set big goals, but make sure they are attainable. I didn't want to just hit 90 days and then binge as a reward. Gotta keep going.

Jordan Peterson is the man! I'm currently reading "12 Rules for Life" and it's amazing.

Congratulations brother! I love the Jordan Peterson videos also. I'm about halfway through his series on the cultural significance of the bible stories.

  14. This Jordan Peterson chap has only negative media here in the UK. In the one interview I saw with him, he came across as perfectly rational. That's probably for another thread though.

Yeah, in the UK if you are anywhere to the right of Stalin and pro free speech you get only negative media and are vilified as "far-right" and "racist." It's a sad state of affairs.
