@EyesWideOpen It should be illegal to not know what a mince pie is!! :)
One of the things I have enjoyed about living in different countries is experiencing the food. I remember making a roast dinner for my neighbours in America, making Yorkshire puds and roast potatoes. She couldn't believe how I got the potatoes crispy on the outside yet fluffy in the middle, yet I've eaten roast tatties every Sunday for most of my life! And I can't believe I've lived most of my life without cornbread or a funnelcake! Or Pavlova (although pavs are in UK, I never ate or made one until I lived in Australia).
@anewhope sorry for all the food talk. I have missed my 'proper' Xmas dinner this year. I love being back in Australia but I do miss a northern hemisphere Christmas. It's all beach and bbqs here. Not a snowflake or Yorkshire pud in sight!

Oh, I most definitely agree! When we lived in Europe we loved experiencing all of their traditions and cuisine. But we were on the mainland and unfortunately never made it to the UK. I'm embarrassed to say though, that I had only heard of mince pies in stories and thought it was an older tradition no longer done, or at least not very common. Please forgive my ignorance.

But on that note, we lived, for a good many years, in a part of the US that has a very strong Scandinavian heritage. They have many food traditions that are not common in most other parts of the country. One of the strangest (and nastiest) is lutefisk. It is an age old tradition that has been passed down for generations from the homeland and, unless you were literally raised on it, is one of the grossest things you will ever eat. For those that don't know what it is, it is aged cod that has been soaked for days in lye so it turns almost into a jelly-like consistency. The best description of it is "fish flavored jell-o". If you have ever watched the movie Frozen, the Nordic guy who owns the little shop in the woods offers them a jar of lutefisk. You might not realize that is what he says between his accent and if you've never heard the word before. lol

@EyesWideOpen I was just kidding , I'd never heard of a lot of the cuisine in the US. Whenever I read 'biscuits and gravy' in a book, I envisioned someone eating a digestive biscuit with brown gravy on it. So grosse (if you are not familiar with UK cuisine, we call cookies biscuits. For my beloved Blighty counterparts, a biscuit in the US is more like a savoury scone, typically eaten with breakfast. And the gravy isn't like brown roast dinner gravy, it's white!). I thought I'd heard of lutefisk but I think im confusing it with surstromming, that super stinky fermented fish that it's illegal to open on a plane :)

Yes, we Americans have many different types of gravy. Biscuits and gravy is a breakfast gravy with sausage in it! Yummy! And the fish you speak of does sound similar to lutefisk. lol

OK - just found out how to include images, so I thought I'd try it out with my mince pie picture.

    Oh look! It works!

The topping is made from a macaroon mixture, which makes them lighter than the all-pastry ones.

    The end of the beginning.

Today my NoFap counter will tick over to 200 days. The trial separation of my right hand and my dick has turned into an amicable divorce. They still remember the good times, but they have both moved on to better things.

January 2018 is going to be a pretty important month in my life. Tomorrow my big brother is coming to visit from the USA. I haven't seen him for ages and I'm really looking forward to it. On Thursday, I have the final interview for the job I've been chasing. If it goes well then I should be able to start work in February, removing my lingering money worries and setting me up nicely for final retirement in 5-7 years.

Being back at work will be a bit of shock to the system as each week it will take 40 - 45 hours out of the free time I've been enjoying. I've finished writing my novel, so that has freed up some time. I have also decided that I will leave this site at the end of the month as I will no longer have the time to devote to it. I'm very grateful to NoFap. It has given me an insight into issues I was only dimly aware of and it helped me rebuild my life. I've enjoyed helping others where I could, but this seems the right time to move on.

So I will be here for three more weeks or so, and then I will make my fond farewells.

Thanks everyone for your very kind words.

I had my second interview today for the job I am pursuing. I had to get up at 05:15 and drive 3.5 hours each way. The interview itself was with a panel of two and lasted just over 1.5 hours. I'm back home now and pretty tired.

I think it went OK, but it was more difficult to tell than it was after the first interview; the interviewers were more senior and better at keeping their cards close to their chests. I think the chances that I get a job offer are probably 75% but I am not sure. They asked lots of open questions about how I'd react in certain situations - the sort of questions that don't have a right or wrong answer so who knows if I said what they were hoping to hear. It is difficult to stop going over it in my head and over-analysing every one of their comments or gestures. The frustrating thing is that their decision making process is quite slow and it may take up to two weeks before I find out whether or not they want me. I'm impatient to know as I really want this job and, as things stand, I don't have a real 'Plan B,' should I not get it.

I don't smoke, so I may have to take up biting my fingernails. It could be a long two weeks.

I’m sure you did great! It’s nerve-wracking when it’s hard to get a read on your interviewers for sure. I have a feeling everything will be okay.
