Hey everybody, I'm a 19 y/o college student who is suffering with sex addiction, and I've come here in hopes that this forum will help my reboot process. Up until recently, I didn't really think that my use of PMO was bad. It seemed like everyone watched porn and masterbated, but most people know how to control their porn use; I can not. My sexuality has been extremely unhealthy and demeaning for as long as I can remember. I used PMO to numb myself from negative emotions, and this lead to porn taking a hold of my life. At my worst, I would watch porn for 6 hours a day. The porn I watched became extremely demeaning, and I would hurt punish/hurt myself while I masterbated. I would push important things to the side to watch porn. It would lead me to do socially unacceptable things, but still, I thought that what I was doing wasn't all too bad and I convinced myself that I would be fine if I continued down this road. Something changed in the last few months though; I couldn't quite point to one thing causing this, but my mentality on what this sex addiction is doing/has done to me changed considerably, and I am trying hard to stop. As many people on this forum probably know, though, stopping this addictive behavior is extremely difficult, and I am still working diligently on stopping PMO completely for 3 months. I want to also completely cut porn from my life because it has become something to abuse, and it does not reflect reality in any way, shape, or form. I have been going to SAA meetings for about 2 months now, but due to changes in my living situations, its going to be harder for me to go to these; I hope to rely more on this forum for support, and I would like to diligently journal here as well. I Can't wait to get started!

Just wanted to also say a few things about myself too. I am studying engineering in college, my favorite pastimes include playing the guitar and reading, and I am going to be moving to Austin, TX for the summer.

    Thank You!

Greetings. I'm new here as well. I like reading other people's stories. One piece of advice that I can give is that if you happen to move to another place and/or change your environment, that is a great way to change your habits. It seems to take just a little less effort. If you're moving to a place you haven't been to before, this is the perfect time. I'm not moving anywhere exciting myself so I'll have to physically change my environment to help me change my habits. It seems to help me so I thought I'd share with others.

    Good luck!

Hey Cake Shop, I appreciate the response! Yeah you're definitely right. Changing my environment can have the potential to allow new habits to sprout, but it can also allow for old habits to take their roots as well. I need to make an effort to not fall into the same old trap and keep myself from falling back into an addictive cycle. I don't think its necessarily bad that you're not changing environments; you still have the potential to change old habits. Stay vigilante!

    Hi @Introspecto8 !

You are in a good, healthy, supportive place for you to begin your journey of healing from PMO. If you haven't already done so, read the "getting started guide" available on this site's (noFAP) home page and check out the glossary at the top of this page. Both have answers to a lot of questions you may have, as well as helpful advice and counsel as you get started on your journey.

Pay special attention to the parts about understanding your goals and objectives and developing a plan for keeping them fresh in your mind. Consider it as a complex engineering project: think about what needs doing, consider and propose several options for approaching the task, execute the tasks according to plan, and monitor whether the program / project is going according to plan... and if it doesn't analyze why and make appropriate corrective actions.
Use your hobbies - music, reading, to help stay busy when you have urges to pursue other, unhealthy, unwise activities !

One day at a time is how we all succeed.

You'll find the folks on this site are very supportive. Reading and posting, and keeping a journal has helped many folks sustain themselves on their journeys. So, Look around the various forums, read what other's have to say, and post yourself in the forums or in a journal (you can create a journal on this site if you choose) If you have questions, or just want and need somebody to listen, you'll find it here.
