I want to share something that I found profoundly life changing. I gave myself a challenge, if you will. I wanted to see what would happen if I could quit my bad habits. I couldn't enjoy anything in my life due to the emotional pain of porn(even though it's fake, your brain can't tell the difference between fantasy and what's real), due to the constant fear mongering of the news, and the FOMO of Social Media. Before I did this, It was a struggle in the beginning. How was I going to spend my free time? What was I going to do? Once I got past the first three weeks, my perspective on life improved immensely. I went from a very negative person to a optimist with dreams. I was somewhat blown away by this. NoFap was just a small piece of the puzzle. Things happen in life: Gossip, cheating, bad days at work and school etc. Understand that life brings joys and sorrows alike, but how you react to them is going to be the true test of your mettle. You may struggle in the beginning, but once you get some momentum going, your not going to want to go back ever again to these habits and I guarantee it!

Thank you for reading, hopefully I gave someone a spark to their life. Have a good day!

  2. Well done! I also do very little on social media and avoid the broadcast news like the plague that it is. So much unneeded stress we add to our lives!

I quit social media a couple of years ago and have never looked back. It’s toxic. I found myself constantly comparing my life to others. Now I just have a few more habits to rid myself of and I’m done.

  4. I also quit social media recently after realizing that it was really making me envious and depressed by the constant comparisons.
Thank you for your encouraging story! It gives me a lot of hope.

Man I think you’re really onto something there.. I’ve also quit Social media, gossip bullshit and News. It’s interesting to see a few others mentioning leaving social media.
I kind of think of it as a type of porn.. it voyeuristic at least.
Scantly dressed women or provocative posing is what gets the most random contacts (oops friends) and that’s what gives a lady their happy inner glow.
Anyway good on you man and I wish you well with it and like you I must admit it was very daunting turning it off but I never missed it.
In an interesting side note I did just go back on Instagram to promote my band.. which I’m not really happy about but I just have to promote some gigs online...mainly to keep venues happy.
Still I don’t value it at all and have it setup so I upload once per week and check any enquiries at the same time and get off.
    Still a worry though.

  8. Yeah but for a brand (I play also) it's necessary. The thing I learned recently is that social media is the first time in history (possibly) that we are sort of required to brand ourselves.
