My addiction is doing push-ups

I've heard it said that my addiction is waiting for me to let my guard down, then it will attack. I believe this. As soon as i take my eyes off my recovery it will be there. If i become complacent i put myself at risk of losing my willingness to participate in recovery. It will never give up. It will always be ready to trip me so i fall flat on my face. It will lie and tell me things, using my own voice from within my head. This only affects me if i listen to it. It will show me opportunities to look at triggering material. There's no end to what it will try to do to get me to give in to it. I must be ready at all times. Recovery is a moment to moment battle that never ends but can be won on a daily basis.

Good post. That’s some old program talk there. They say my best thinking got me here! Which is why I shouldn’t listen to my thinking all the time. Take my brain out of it and just work the program. Thanks again for the great reminders

  3. I have heard that voice, and it can be so convincing.

Very good post - accurate summary of the that "pleasure beast" as I call it.

Yes! It’s as if I met a little grizzly bear cub. Took it in and it was awesome, my best friend! Man, it was so fun to play with, so cute and harmless, it was great! Then one day that little dude whacked me with his paw, whoa!!!!! Little sucker cut me, but I loved the little guy so I kept playing with him. Still thought he was my friend but wow he can cause some pain now. Then it gets bigger and bigger and starts fucking me up more and more. Porn addiction is like taking in a grizzly bear. Better to not get involved, but know when to leave it alone and get the hell outta there!

This is true. When I relapse, and then latter diagnose, I discover it's not so much a failure of the moment. Rather, my failure started weeks ago, when I started skimping on meditation, reading scripture, entertaining sexual thoughts, and so on. Recovery really does take constant vigalence.
