Instead of masturbating to "getting to know yourself better", I would strongly advice you to take up the challenge to totally not masturbate and see what comes to the surface when you deny yourself the fapping. It will sound strange to you, but if you stop running from those energies, urges and emotions and face them instead of giving in to them, you will get to know yourself better on a whole new level.
    Just sayin ;)

Also, when you (work up to/edge to) orgasm you will release massive amounts of endorphins in your body. This has been scientifically proven. Then also it will take your body massive amounts of energy and nutrients to build up the lifejuice you just spilled. The more you engage in sexual activity, to more sore your opioid- and dopamine-receptors get. Also, when masturbating instead of having sex you get the disbalance in oxytocin which is more involved with a lover. Your body uses endorphins to engage in more than a 100 activities that mostly include healing, repearing and preparing, also to keep balance in numerous processes in your body, CNS and mind. So the more you push the endorphin/dopamine buttons, the more grey, unhealthy and shorter your life becomes.

Do with it what you want, do it in moderation, get addicted again, whatever.. But please don't lure people on this forum who want to quit their habit for whatever reason they want to quit it, because of scientific incorrect opinions.

As for my opinion: Pleasure is not the same as happiness. Knowing yourself is being able to face the sensations and emotions you are running from by masturbating, then transforming them into outlets that build life instead of take life and the quality of it just for your own pleasure.

This is the main problem. The majority of the internet society believe that masturbation is healthy and natural act and support their argument by some scientific theories. They are viewing it as scientific facts that cannot be denied. In my opinion, reality is a bigger proof than science. Even if the majority of doctors say that masturbation is ok I still won't believe it. Because reality says quite the contrary. But the question is why do medical doctors support masturbation while ignoring the reality of its serious side effects ? Do you think they are forced to do that ? Or is it that somebody finances them to speak for their own benefit ?

Well guys, as already has been said - let's keep things civil. We are all in the process of learning and just because our perspective and opinions are differing, doesn't mean we need to call each other names and lose patience.
We are all working toward the same goal which is to get rid off porn addiction and make a good life for ourselves.
To what has been said here:

I agree, masturbation may likely harm your reboot process and be exhausting and energy-draining by nature.
While it is also true that regular masturbation is scientifically proven to lower certain illness-risks, such as prostate cancer, I have been told that masturbation is not needed to due the body tending to itself with wet dreams and autonomous orgasms while asleep. To my knowedlge, we also do not see masturbation that often in the animal world, so it may be an artificially created human activity. In other words: Not necessarily intended by nature.

However, porn is much more destructive in nature than raw masturbation and there are a lot of people that keep masturbating from time to time but stop watching porn and make progress. If you have a really bad time trying to stop PMO, just cutting out porn at first may be a good way to go.

Also, it has been discussed what this web-site is about.
And indeed, this website is for getting rid of porn addiction.

You see, nofap was intended to be a broad-style approach of stopping porn addiction. It has a lot of different sub-currents and subcultures of which some masturbate, and many don't.
Most do not masturbate but masturbation once every day is still better than watching porn a lot of hours and masturbating every day.

Most people on nofap, at one point, want to go back to normality, and that's totally okay.

Be patient with each other, we have the same goal.

He doesn't know anything he talks about

  11. This is a highly subjective topic. I don't think there is one definite, concrete answer. It will always depend upon the person.

They literally are not. They are physiologically different. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16095799

The post-orgasmic prolactin increase following intercourse is greater than following masturbation and suggests greater satiety
