Just saw this great discussion. And I personally don't see M as a problem; I follow Ronilas opinion. I think the problem lies in loosing control over it.

Did you look at the date the study was done? It was conducted in 1972.

And if you read the study thoroughly you will notice how they measured their success turning that gay person around: The encouraged him to visit a female prostitute. And he did and had sex with her. And this is the studies argumentation that this person is not gay anymore.

Besides the fact that today this would be considered as a highly unethical study, their deduction is pretty much garbage don't you think?

  2. It's impossible to know, since such study would not be conducted today. Seems weird that the possibility of rehabilitating homosexual males to normal behaviour would be shunned from consideration, but such is our time in the current year.

Regardless of what addiction is the topic for discussion there seems to be three common denominator's.
    Instant gratification
    Instant justification
    Instant Empathy
to replace PMO, with gambling as an example would appear to be at opposite ends of the addiction spectrum. However the gambler has an addiction is looking for the instant win and are willing to reach this goal by spending their entire paycheck, and then feel bad for not accounting that goal but wanting others to understand their situation.
I think that anytime you are using anything in a repetitive nature that has no problem solving at the end of it, we often look for the instant gratification, even justify our acts, and want others to feel our pain not hold us accountable.

So is there a healthy M? I'm not a doctor, or psychologist. But I would save your looking at these three denominations while doing M, then you may be still being into that addiction. There are people that are addicted to drinking water. And do so to the point that they affect themselves and others around them. Were talking water here, so her reaction talking about the object? Or are we talking about the addiction. We should be talking about the addiction not the object of it. There are people that are addicted to adrenaline rushes and do not even see it as being a problem. They will spend all day long looking to get that rush from mountain climbing, bungee jumping, or parachuting as examples anything extreme that will give them that rush and they're looking for the same three items I mentioned. I sure don't practice what I preach obviously or I would not be here on this website. But that does not mean I do not understand the dynamics involved. We love empathy, empathy is probably one of the most powerful tools we use. Why yes instant gratification and justification be the addiction. What we seek out doing our behavior is empathy, either from ourselves, or for lucky from others as that will feed into our own addiction and allow us to continue the behavior we have.

If it's addictive behavior? Then it's probably an addiction. If M, Ms. pursued in addictive way, tada it's an addiction.
