Killing home internet

Discussion in 'Self Improvement' started by Deleted Account, Jul 19, 2018.

  1. Hi guys!
Just wanted to share a blog-post from my idols:
    https://www.theminimalists.com/internet/

We are heading into a minimalist lifestyle here at my place and I came across this blog post and thought that it sounded like a great idea.
It's not that it tells you never to use the internet. You just have to get out of the house to use it.
"Oh but I need internet at home for...." Read the blog post mate ;-) It most likely will convince you that you don't.

My mobile phone has internet, I use it to watch all kinds of things. I uninstalled Facebook, I don't use anything other than Facebook messenger. Everyone here has all kinds of instagram Twitter WhatsApp shits. They think it's lame to not have those, But I don't care, I think time is very valuable. I stopped my home internet plan last year. It feels better than ever.

So interesting. I'd have to kill it on my phone too otherwise I'd blast all my data. It's hard to draw the line. I can see pros and cons to this.

Youd be surpised about the little things (or big) you do that keep you away from PMOing. Good luck on your journey!

    Hi.
I use to cut-off internet from my life by setting up password on PC four years ago. My parents and brother knew it but I didn't.
It was nice when you're free of all those Facebooks, youtubes and other kind of very popular and common sites.

After about month of such absence I've found myself... bored? I mean: all the time I worked, met with friends two times a week, read, paint, draw, excercise on gym, watch movies in TV and... there was too much of it in my life. It became so common for me.
All those activities I've posted before were part of my self-development program. It was not entertainment but duty. If I wouldn't have done them I'd have became kind of... "mongrel".
Just like masses of people around me who focusing on Twitters, TV shows, drinking and eating fast food and so on.
The password was lifted. Yes, my soberity was good in this time- 26 days. Those 26 clean days wasn't effect of my work but result of unknown password. I didn't step forward during that time. My low self-esteem was still in the same point. I needed alcohol to party with my peers on equal terms- social anxiety was still here!

Since about year and half I'm developing habits to make my life properly set-up. I mean by that: introducing healthy activities, replacing bad-ones with good-ones, going sleep earlier etc. Everybody know what's going on.
It's not giving me perfect soberity. There are lot of things to work-out inside my mind. Although, it's much easier for me now if I'm not feeling urges to clicking those FB tabs, youtube videos or PC games icons. Instead of it I'm writing articles in some kind of blog, working on my ASG gear, excercising without pressure to be better than others. There is no need to post everything.

And now's the point: You don't need to be perfectly sober if your lifestyle is designed properly. I know it's controversial but all those reeboting things are not about not touching your penis during porn movie sessions. It's about developing better life for us. Of course, soberity makes it easier, giving a boost to doing things like real man etc. I know it.
In my, Polish porn-addict community we have some people with long-term soberity and they saying exact the same thing. Make good life and soberity came in time.

  6. Hi guys!
    Thanks for the replies :)
I'm at my parent's place using their internet now and I actually don't miss it at home. I'm cheating a little bit since I't only my computer that isn't connected to the wifi at home. I can still use my Playstation but that isn't a PMO-problem for me so I'm allowing it.
Browsing the internet can't be done from my computer at home since I no longer know the wifi password :D

  8. Now using the public library to connect to the internet. Haven't surfed the web since my last post in this thread and I didn't really miss it. I have a paper at home where I can write searches I need to make but I haven't really used it. All of the searches wasn't important at all, so I didn't want to write them down.
Right now I'm just reading my mail and writing this post and then I have to check some practical information about my Kindle. That's all. If I can do this for 1 month I will try making some more restrictions at home, so I'm not just spending time on my Playstation but until then I'm allowing the Playstation... gotte take baby steps to implant new patterns. :)

I will post again next time I get to the library if you'll like :)

  9. Great idea, I like your style. Inspiring. I wonder how much your life will improve by exiting the Web for while? ..I wish I could do it too but I work as an IT Techy. Perhaps during my holiday break.

  10. I can tell you that so far I have been reading a lot more books. And I'm not obsessed with the thought of going online all the time. Even when I'm online from the library I finish my online tasks pretty quickly since it's not a place where I wants to just sit and chill :)
That's all for today :) Going for a hike this weekend so see you on the other side :)

I think that is a great idea. I have a few friends that are glued to anything internet. It drives me insane because you can't hold their attention too long because they are itching to get online and be in the virtual world and everyone else business. What ever happened to real conversations without the internet? I will turn off my internet after a certain hour and see how it goes.

  13. I'm on the library again. Realized that I haven't been online for 10 days :p I just didn't need it, but I'm starting school tomorrow so I had to go over here to check my new schedule :)
I'm planning to use my school's study hall every day to make homework and then go offline again when I'm heading home :)

I just got my home internet back a few days ago. I was without it for a month because of a technical issue. I still used mobile hotspot so i had access to text communication and pictures. I feel i could probably get used to it but it would be hard! Its probably good to not use it for a while just to get used to not needing it. Its still very useful and i dont think cutting it out completely have sense.
