I have a feeling that people in general are becoming more depressed than ever. I looked that up and I read somewhere that depression rates are increasing.

    What do you think?
Personally I percive that in humor. Jokes tend more and more to be referential to depression or existencial crisis, lack of sense in life or things like that.

  2. Yes, because the world seems to become more wasted, plundered, commercialized, populated every day and is in the same time evolving much faster now, than in the subjective felt past. Changes which needed centuries before, now happen over a few decades or even years and the speed is fasting up. (Climate change/migration effects will coming in harder and harder now)
The competition pressure is enormous and people tend to medicate/drug themselve or even their children just to stay in the race. Essential relationships are turning into "temporary partnerships", people are not fullfilling their real needs or desires, while trying to impress each other with glittering glass marbles, just to realize in the end, that we won´t be able to eat, love, drink or breath money or gold or oil. If you need any reason to be seriously depressed, there are hundred good ones outside, just waiting for you. You have to fight for your own true happiness and will, not for the adopted or implanted needs of others, or these false needs and demands will eat you up, sooner or later.

  3. definitely is, between the toxic media, junk food people are piling down their throats, lack of exercise and obesity rates going up. People are more unhealthy both physically and mentally than ever.

Yes. Social media, the over preoccupation with phones, ipads, porn, drug usage.

  7. I think so. Lots of factors as others have mentioned. Crazy how we have so much more materialisticly yet we’re all generally unhappy.

I sometimes wonder if it be a good thing if all my stuff just burnt up and I were to go live off the land in the mountains. I love the mountains, makes me feel good just being there.

As long as I could stay warm, dry, fed, and be free to roam I think I’d be fine. This rat race is getting tiresome.

  8. Uhhh, I don't know. I guess I would have to agree about depression in general. There is more to be depressed about but we do have the option to tune this stuff out. This year has been one of the best years or my life because I've watched less porn, less news, less violent movies and generally been less indulgent. I went on two cruises this summer. One with my mom's side of the family and one with my dads. It was awesome because the internet packages were ridiculously priced so my zombie ass family had no access to internet and cell phones. I we had no contact with anyone who wasnt on the ship, no access to email, pmo, text and everyone was forced to talk to each other. Most of the people on the ship were in the same situation so everyone was socializing and having fun. We have the power to live our lives this way if were willing to use some self control and make some sacrifies in the short run.

  9. Which cruise did you go on? For me, Ruby Princess California Coastal.

  10. Probably not.

I think many who say they're depressed aren't. What people are having is just sadness. There's a big difference between feeling sad and being depressed. With sadness you know why you feel that way, with depression you don't know why you feel that way.

What you say is right, people nowdays use the word 'depression' just for sadness. But despite thousands of spoiled kids screaming they're depressed when they're just sad, I was refering to people who actually have the mental health condition.

  12. I think you can know the why. I think the difference between depression and sadness is the intensity and the time period in which the feeling is with you

Yes, in my opinion people are so accustomed to just get whatever they need - almost instantly - that everytime they face the slightest of resistance from their environment they feel let down and depressed

    There’s many reasons
Snow flakes who thinks the world runs on their feelings
Being bombarded constantly with negative, sensationalised news headlines
    Drug abuse
    Alcohol abuse
    Junk food
....and this shit we are doing

Or we're just better at detecting depression and instant communication gets it out quicker. You can't really compare now with 70 year's ago. We don't really know. But we do know that a study or an article saying it's getting worse will probably sell better.

I think so yes. Turn on the news, the media pushes depression on us. So much bad news and they focus on that. And with technology, phones, social media, failing marriages, shootings, god being taken out of everything. The world is falling.

It can also be a very pretty place, turn off the news, get out, be nice to people, help a stranger out. Pass the kindness on!
