I know that porn is evil and detrimental to ones brain. And I know that this was an addiction to porn and not masturbating. But if I get aroused out of the blue and I dont use porn I feel that it's okay to MO without porn because porn is the real problem here. I was just wondering.

I also dont think about porn while masturbating either.

  3. Well,The Thing Is Same,If You Masturbate with or without Porn. You ain't going to Masturbate without Fantasizing. It'll Still Create the Same Dopamine Levels when you watch Porn. You'll Watch porn in your Mind instead on the computer. And One Day,You'll have to quit masturbation too.So Why Not Try From Now?

I recommend against any masturbation under any circumstances, unless it's used as foreplay with your wife.

  5. It doesn't have to be on a screen or in a magazine for it to be porn. A mental image, a memory, or a fantasy in your mind is still the same thing in terms of morality (potentially even worse, as the person being portrayed has no opportunity to consent); and is in fact identical in terms of physicality (ie: how your body responds chemically).

I think that we should all decide for ourselves. I came here to get support to get my masturbation habit under control and never go back to porn. So my desired outcome is to never see porn again, and only masturbate when the time is right. I've only been around NoFap for a week, but I have to say that I'm a little shocked at some of the extreme viewpoints, hard lining, and citing of dubious "facts". I wouldn't follow any one person's advice. If you make your own path, it will feel right when you follow it.

I also must respond to the comment about what porn is. Images in our heads, even if they are memories of porn that we have seen, are not porn. I just watched a video where a guy explains that porn is videotaped prostitution. That no one's childhood ambition is to be a porn model or a prostitute. Actually consuming (watching) porn is becoming part of it, supporting it. That is subjugating human beings and in my mind, that is wrong. Imagining images from porn I have watched, since I have denounced porn, is not consuming porn. I can't remove those images from my mind intentionally. I'm not hurting anyone any more when those pop into my head or if I conjuer them up. To feel guilt about it only hurts myself.

I feel that since I use porn to masturbate, whenever I have tried to masturbate without porn, I have eventually ended up watching it. They both are linked closely together and you cannot do one without the other if you have been doing it for a long time.
Masturbating is okay without porn, but it still will want you to use porn to get a better high.
Ultimately,I believe it will lead you back to the first step,as you can masturbate whenever you want.
That is not the case with sex as you will not get to have sex at the whims of your addiction.
    Good luck!

Good insights fuss. I am 57. I started M when I couldn't even O. I was Ming nightly all through my teen years. I'm gay. So back in 1970, as a teen, I didn't have access to gay porn. For a while in my late teens when I went away from home I was having actual sex all of the time and M became unnecessary. Then I shut down from 77-86 because I was trying to get away from the gay scene. MO only, nightly for 10 years. In 1988 I got my first computer. By 1994 I had a full fledged porn addiction. I've spent the last 20 years, sometimes up to three hours a day PMOing. I got in trouble having a huge porn collection discovered. I will never go near porn again. But I won't stop MO. Only now it will be back to 20 minutes once or twice a week while I lay in bed at night falling asleep, using my fantasy for stimulation. That sounds as normal to me as I can get. To get myself back there, I'm setting no PMO goals for 5-7 days. I haven't viewed porn in 14 days, I went 5 days MO free, last night I had a nice MO without P, and now I'm on a 7 day noPMO. At the conclusion of which, I will decide the next move.

I don't like your post jmark. But rather than me inferring something from your words, perhaps you would like to explain why you wrote it and what your thoughts are.

I think it's amazing that he's still masturbating at such an age, having not experienced erectile dysfunction or anything like that.

If I had a dime for every one of these threads... Look. You're going to experience an inferior version of NoFap if you choose to masturbate. You may stop porn use but you'll never get to experience what it's like to withhold and use that sexual energy. In the end masturbation is auto erotic. It turns one inside. For many this worsens problems with social anxiety and the like.

I guess what I'm trying to say is your effort will be rewarded. If you do the full NoFap challenge you'll receive the full NoFap benefits.

Well I guess that I should defend myself before I leave this group. I'm realizing that I am replacing my porn time with this F'd up website. There is a lot of bad energy here. In some ways its no better than masturbating. But I'll take a stance that that is what one must endure, if one is to find community.
jmark, sometimes I've felt like I'm masturbating to check myself against ED. I have never lacked the ability to create an erection, but I admit, that during a 90 minute stroke session, I will not be fully engorged the whole time. From the little that I've been reading in the 5 days that I've come here, I here a lot of guys blaming P and M on there problems. The way I see it, our problems are deeper and we use P and M to feel in control, to soothe ourselves. I think that this website could help people stop PMOing, but its not going to go any deeper than that. If you can stop the behavior, then you might become empowered to work on the underlaying problem. I have a marginally satisfying sex life with my man, but it wasn't meeting my fantasy, so I've supplemented that with PMO. It got out of control. I'm not sure that I understand your incredulity about a person of any age masturbating. I'm not going to engage you in conversation, because I can tell from reading your posts, that you and I are a very wide distance apart. I want to listen to people and then possibly, respectfully add my ideas. Thats how I conduct my life, and I don't have any shame about masturbating. I am ashamed of my use of porn. I didn't realize until very recently that its not so harmless.

If you have no shame about masturbating (i.e., you don't think there's anything wrong with it), then this isn't the place for you. :)

No offense taken. I have no intention of keeping my mouth shut if I can tell people the truth. No offense intended.

  20. As you say, porn addiction is what were trying to remove so that is the main goal for this site. Of course you can masturbate without porn but chances are extremely high that it will lead you back to porn. Because sooner or later you most likely will start fantasizing and as one thing leads to another...

If you can masturbate without imagination then fine! go ahead, but you're still very close to reinforce the same pathways that you're trying to remove my masturbating at all.

So I will recommend you to stay away from both just to be sure that you're not giving yourself in to the urges because once you start. You will fail because the urges will get EXTREMELY strong!

What you should do with your urges. let them come, do their thing and pass because they'll pass within a second as soon as you start focusing on something else.
Know that you're the one deciding when you should fap, not your urges!
There are plenty of other ways to deal with them too but this is one.
