I'm getting into horror movies lately

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by Deleted Account, Sep 12, 2017.

  1. I might go see IT by myself this weekend, too. Lol I kinda wanna see it again.

But yeah, Idk, I was never really interested in Black Swan, but maybe I'll check it out. I'm not a fan of Natalie Portman really, so I'm not sure. Mostly I never saw it because I heard about the sex scene, but I suppose I could just skip that part.

  2. Eh, I like both kinds, really. I'm not super picky.

Great list! Have you heard of Shudder? It's a streaming service that focuses exclusively on horror. Their catalogue is actually pretty impressive. If you dig horror, you'd probably like it. Some great movies I've found on Shudder:
    The Innkeepers
    The House of the Devil
    Society
    Lake Mungo
The Jeffrey Dahmer Files (if you like docs)
    Grave Encounters
    The Perfect Host
    [REC]

To be clear, new IT movie is not actually a remake, it's an official movie. If you research about the old IT, you'll learn that it was a mini series, rather than a movie.

    Just saying.

    It's still a remake.

    Fright Night(1985)
    Poltergeist(1992)
    The Fly(1986)
    Dawn of the Dead(1979)
    Raw(2017)
    Eraserhead(1977)
    Re-Animator(1985)
    Ringu(1998)

  7. I watched "The Void" on Netflix tonight.

A story about a cop found a drunk teenager who was taken to the hospital and then something strange came out of nowhere. Something disgusting, bloody and ugly within but awaken. Full of suspense. The path to the basement (of the hospital?) where it binds darkness and evil.

Ehh, I don't understand. It gets confusing and dragging at some points, nothing else. Both sides. Acting is ridiculous. The plot has no depth. Direction is decent. Characters development is laughable. The dialogue is too modern. Everything about this horror film is just a laughing stock but.....the only good thing about the movie is its concept. The art was the positive thing, that was it.

If you are into the 80's alike Lovecraftian horror, this must be a watch but still not worth it.

  8. IT was actually pretty good. Went to go see it this weekend, not that scary, just classic. ;)

  9. Watch Candyman (1992) if you get a chance to.

  10. Annabelle
    Cabin in the Woods
    Carrie (1976)
    Child's Play
Friday the 13th (8-film collection on DVD)
    IT (1990)
Nightmare on Elm Street (8-film collection on DVD)
    Poltergeist (1982)
    The Fly (1986)
The Return of the Living Dead

There's quite alot of horror films I have never seen, beside the first & original Nightmare on Elm Street. Most of those sets are on Bluray and some on DVDs so I'm cool. Shame Walfart didn't have John Carpenter's Halloween and Tobe Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre, though. Call out @CassTeaElle who is a horror movies fan. :)

  11. Wait, what? I'm already here... lol

  13. Six movies within three nights and still having a good time. I will tell you my thoughts on these movies I watched.

Nightmare on Elm Street Pt 2
    - 3/5
It had some dumb parts. The acting is cheesy. The story is a bit predictable but had some points. Poor editing. Most of the time, the movie was campy. The positive things about this sequel is the practical effects and Robert Englund's performance, that was it.

Nightmare on Elm Street Pt 3 - 3.5/5
Positive things about this one is the practical effects, cast, different setting and Robert Englund's performance. Some parts were hushed and the movie had some issues so it could of been longer than 90 minutes. Same ol Robert Englund doing this thing like he always do. This movie is watchable if you watched or skipped the second one.

Nightmare on Elm Street Pt 4 - 2.5/5
Another campy movie of the series. Not really cheesy but it felt too weird. I mean it's different for being what it is/was. My positive for this one is the practical effects and Robert Englund's performance. Acting is a bit cheesy. Problems with pacing and editing. Predictable story. Not bad as a whole but it still wasn't great.

Nightmare on Elm Street Pt 5 - 0.5/0
50 minutes into the 4th sequel and got easily pissed. Bad acting, bad directing, bad writing, bad dialogue, bad editing, bad visual effects and bad character development. It has nothing to do with Robert Englund or his character but the movie itself, as a whole, is indeed an abomination. Terrible. Just terrible. Whoever wrote the script should be eaten by the giant crocodile named Gustave.

The Return of the Living Dead - 4/5
Positive things about this zombie movie is the practical effects, atmospheres, acting and the music. I thought it was pretty good, despite being a cult classic for number of reasons.

    The Fly (1986) - 4/5
Positive things about this remake is Jeff Goldblum's performance, practical effects and story. The first act focused on technology, second act focused on transformation and third act focused on suspense. It wasn't much of a horror movie, it's just more of a science fiction suspense thriller, in my opinion. The pinnacle of 80's movie practical effects and" The Fly" is one of them.

"Carrie", Evil Dead trilogy, "Cabin in the Woods", "Annabelle", "Child's Play" and some of the others are next to watch. Tonight is probably "Annabelle" one of the others so I'll decide. It's all in for the fun October!

  14. I went to Best Buy the other day and bought some of the horror movies.

    28 Days Later
    28 Weeks Later
    An American Werewolf in London
    House of 1000 Corpses
    Salem's Lot
    The Shining

I've seen two of those before and I watched the werewolf the other night. It was good but a bit cheesy.

  15. I just bought a couple horror movies at a flea market on Sunday, and I forgot to mention them I think.

    The Visit
House at the End of the Street

Those are both good. I also recently saw the brand new movie Friend Request, and it was actually pretty good. I feel like it had great timing, as far as choosing when to have things pop out and scare you. It made me jump and scream a couple times, but that also might be because we were the only ones in the theater, so I felt more free to do so.

I also got a movie called Silent House at the flea market. Has anyone seen that? Please don't tell me anything about it, I just want to know if it's good or not. I'll probably watch it either way. It sounded interesting and it was only 2 bucks.

Well, as a horror enthusiast myself i'd love to help.

You can start with the more psychological stuff

    buried (among my favourites)
    the amityvill horror
    Parents(WATCH THIS)
127 hours(some would argue it's not horror but it's very psychological)
    hush

These are a little messier but still really good

    as above so below
    the ruins
    it follows
the eye(haven't seen it personally, but it was recommended to me)
the saw series (also good if you focus on the story-line. people call this torture porn, but they miss the actual story behind it all)
Hostel 1 and 2(some real torture porn)
Grave Encounters 1 and 2(must sees for all horror lovers)

And, of course The Grudge 2(a childhood horror that I love to this day. The Grudge 1 and 3 weren't that great)
    Sinister
    Paranormal activities(All of them)

@CassTeaElle I thought 'The Visit' was pretty decent, I love M Night movies, except for that terrible one he did with Will smith, dear God that was terrible.

Now 'The Village' has got terrible reviews but I swear, the story behind that was gold if you really watch it in an unbiased way. The reason it got such shitty reviews was it was marketed as something else. But that was part of the fun for me.

Would love to hear your thoughts on that one if you watched it?
