I'm faptastic thanks for asking

    So i just googled the best ways to quit porn and here I am... So without further ado here is my story: I have been addicted to porn for about 4 years now and have tried to quit (and failed) as many times as there are stars in the sky. It has been a major hinderance to my work and social life, and to my self esteem in general. The problem was that porn was the answer for everything that troubled me both emotionally and at work. Stressed, then look at porn, deadline due tomorrow? Just put it off and watch some porn. This went on for years and here I am. After about 2-4 minutes of brainstorming I realized that the best way for me to quit for good was to find an accountability partner. I though about my family and immediately shook my head several times, so I got the next best thing: a group of complete strangers who are going through the exact same thing as me on an online forum thread. So the ultimate goal is to quit porn entirely and go a year without and orgasm, meat beating, or porn watching, but I will take it one day at a time. I will be posting my thoughts and journey daily so it should be fun. The big problem I and have had a lot is that moment where I decide to masturbate I have no way of snapping myself out of it. So I read somewhere that snapping a rubber band around your wrist when you get "the urge" is a good way to refocus so I will try that for the first week and see how it goes, while also shouting DON'T DO IT FOR THE THREAD!!!! I would love to hear any other suggestions that people have besides the rubber band idea. Thanks and HELLO FAPSTRONAUTS!

    1st day down! There was really no trouble today. I wore the rubber band but never had to use it which I guess is good. On the other hand though I am feeling extremely lazy and am having a hard time with getting my work done. Well, I guess that i'll have to overcome this lethargic feeling pretty soon so that challenge should be fun at least. I think I am going to do a quote for every day I do nofap so here is the first one: QOTD - "Strength does not come from physical capacity, but from an indomitable will" - Gandhi

    Day 2 went really well. No problems to reports so far. QOTD: - "You are the only person who can change your life" - kinda obvious but something that not many people realize

    Hey, man! Welcome to the forum. Glad you're here - we're all struggling with this addiction, so if you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to PM me. The urges can be overpowering, I know.

    Also, you might want to consider creating an entry on the Reboot Log section, rather than updating your progress on the New to NoFap area?
     
  6. I applaud your intention. I echo the idea of Personal Messaging (PMing ) other members to find accountability partners.
    How much have you gotten out of the site already? Do tell your experiences.

    There are two places on this site I recommend. One is here, for some humor and enlightenment:

    There are pages and pages of this stuff, and it is a hoot. It also totally busts you, because you have probably used a bunch of the lies yourself.

    The second one are the different "I will not use porn today because" pages. Find one, (I believe there are different ones for different age groups) and contribute. It is more powerful than you think.



    Yes, we all know this problem. When your brain feels "highjacked". I would approach it from multiple angles, physical, emotional, mental, and dare I say spiritual. Physical, this can mean getting up and doing a different thing, which could be getting on this site and reading some posts, or taking a walk in nature. It could be calling a friend, even if they know nothing about your struggle. Mental, study the website yourbrainonporn.com. Look at youtube anti-porn videos. Let yourself get both filled up with reasons as to why you don't want to do porn anymore, and let yourself get inspired!

    The point is, fill yourself up with these things BEFORE the wave of temptation happens, and you will have more in tank, so to speak.

    Day 3 was another very easy day. I didn't even have to use the rubber band. Thanks for the likes and comments. I got an achievement called "somebody likes you" which for some reason made me laugh really hard. Also @Determined_to_Succeed I went to the page you recommended and ended up laughing my ass off for like an hour. For the QOTD its from a book I recently read called "Discipline equals freedom" by Jocko Willink, which I would definitely recommend reading. He was talking about compromise and he said it comes in two forms, with others and with yourself. With others (specifically within a team) compromise is essential because a team needs to work together for a common goal, so compromise is used in order to bridge different personalities and become a more cohesive and effective unit overall. However he said the compromise with yourself is unacceptable, because you have to hold the line since no one else will. "

    Day 4. Another easy day so not much to report. There haven't really been any urges but I can hardly get myself to do anything productive which sucks, but I expected that.     Day 5. Well no PMO was done, and neither was anything else. I hardly got out of bed all day. I had no energy or drive to do anything, and it was kind of frustrating. I read in the nofap guide that this is something a lot of people go through so I guess i'm just going to have to get through it, and be patient.     Day 6 is in the bag. Nothing to really report again so i guess thats good. I am still struggling with boredom so, I downloaded a book called Time is Money and found lots of the advice in it really helpful and practical. So I applied it here and the biggest that is missing between the strategy I am using now and the book is that I don't really have a specific reward tailored to not doing PMO. Because I though about it and the feeling of pride I get for nofap is not going to last. So I need to replace the dopamine shot I get from fapping with a reward for not fapping. So I guess the next step is finding that new reward. QOTD: - "The most difficult thing to do is to start"
