It's something I REALLY need to do and if I don't do it it really bothers me and I won't be able to focus on anything. Does this mean that I am addicted to masturbation and porn or does using it as a stress reliever mean I'm not addicted?

I would say it's not an addiction. I suffered from severe stress earlier this year and basically used porn, alcohol and junk food as my coping mechanisms. Not good ones I know. It's debatable but I believe porn use generally is a byproduct of inner turmoil (e.g. stress) rather than a real addiction. Focus on good ways of managing stress such as talking to family/friends/tutors, working out and meditating. Hopefully, you'll feel better.

You need to find your interest and spend time in it. As you feel happier it will be OK. Otherwise you get more stress, with masturbation acting as a stress reliever, and so you get into a vicious loop.

  4. People use PMO to escape discomfort like the stress of everyday life. There is a great video series by Mark Queppet called Sacred Sexuality Project that talks about this kind of thing. It teaches that we have to learn to handle discomfort without PMO so we can kick our addiction.
Check it out. It has good advice.

If it is an addiction, then it's best to know about it and begin to work on it. Don't run from the truth because it's too scary, that just makes things worse.

You should really find out why it is you're stressed and take measures to fix it. Breaking down seemingly impossible tasks into smaller, manageable ones is a method that works well for me, as well as not taking on too much at once.

Masturbating to pornography won't make you any less stressed in the long run. In fact it often makes things worse, because when your brain is depleted of serotonin you feel depressed and anxious and can have trouble sleeping. Also, the guilt, shame and remorse of pornography addiction will play on your mind and your conscience itself will stress you out by rightfully telling you that it's wrong to PMO... I recommend that you listen to your conscience and make efforts to cut masturbation out of your life. Unlike what modern sex-education teachers, doctors and even priests say, it's NOT healthy or natural to masturbate.

    ^ I completely agree!

Ye my addiction is stress induced. I would find I PMO before a stressful or worrying event or after a difficult day etc. But regular days I wouldn't PMO.
And so I taught myself that my stress relief is through PMO and so I became addicted to that stress relief because it worked. But now I'm trying to replace it with more conventional things like exercise, going to quiet beautiful places etc.

Yes totally. Sun and movement are wonder pills. This summer I was often out for swimming and I found it almost unbelievably how 30 minutes of swimming were able to calm me down and clean my head from nervousness, worries, fear, etc.

I like to do things like whittling wood as a remedy for stress.
It's funny, seemingly mundane tasks or hobbies can really put you in a trance and just enjoy simple things like carving wood.

Well I would say "yes, you are addicted". There are multiple roots for an addiction, but the most common one is to use an addiction as an escape from reality - or as you say, as a "stress reliever".

And if your behaviour is like "automated", which means that you cannot stop it, then this is exactly what you call an addiction !

BTW, for me, it is exactly the same. I am only mentally addicted, not physically. I have already experienced that I can go for 35 days without orgasm, and it did no harm for me physically. So sex and fapping are only a trained behavior which I use to escape from reality, and to escape from making decisions and getting things done.

BTW, I worked many years in an alcohol treatment center, and there, they also distinguished between different types of addictions:
    • Some patients are addicted to alcohol physically - they have painful withdrawal, and drink to relieve from that pain. This can be treated with medicaments.
    • Some have real brain damages from childhood on - this is almost impossible to treat, these people need to live in protected areas.
    • And others are addicted because they use alcohol as reliever from fear or from depression. This group is the most common one in society.

I think with the PMO-addiction it is very similar. An orgasm releases hormones which are similar to injecting a drug. Therefore, it can become addictive.

It sounds like PMO controls you. It won't allow you to focus unless you indulge in it. Normal people can cope with stress in healthy ways. That you keep coming back to PMO as your "coping" method is evidence that you are addicted to it. If you can go a month without PMO, and suffer no major cravings, that would suggest that you aren't addicted. Give nofap a shot. You will be healthier and more productive when you get through it.

    (Edit for clarity)

Why do they have brain damage? Is it from the alcohol? o_O

No, people from this group have brain damages before the addiction came.
either pre-born, or from lack of air supply during birth, or from an illness or accident in early childhood.

Just thought I'd clarify what I meant, since I didn't proofread before posting. When I said "give it a shot" I meant give Nofap a shot.

Stress is definitely a trigger for PMO for me.

I heard Gary Wilson say it can be heavily linked to the stress response. So when your stressed you automatically want to PMO. PMO can be very stress relieving temporarily. You need to change that behaviour, and do other things when your stressed. Then eventually over time it won't be so natural to PMO when your stressed.
