Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by Deleted Account, May 20, 2017.

Unfortunately there really isn't a lot out there for Android (that actually works, that is). To be honest, my recommendation would be to switch to a dumb phone. It's a big step to take, but it is effective. Personally, I don't think you'd regret it once you got used to it.

Considering how restrictive the iOS environment is to program for (sandboxing), I'm very surprised there is not better parental controls and blocking for Android.

SPIN Safe Browser seems to be the best option unless you are trying to get into paid accountability software.

    Sounds good on paper.

Lol dude I smashed two smartphones with a friggin' sledgehammer, and a laptop.

I have a screenless phone, it's called The Light Phone. No text even. I was living without any screens thinking I was safe for a while, but this beast doesn't work like that.

I relapsed with magazines and DVD's. I even checked out stuff from the library to fap to.

A dumb phone is a surface level approach to rebooting, as are blockers. These are auxiliary precautions I would argue. As porn is literally everywhere. One can relapse with a dumb phone just as easily as they can with a smartphone. Because relapse happens inside you.

Boomerang with Spin browser works great on Samsung phones, and also on LG phones Netnanny worked great. But Boomerang also has timers so i can turn certain aps off at night when i might slip with porn-subs. Like i have youtube and facebook set to turn off 10pm and instagram at 8pm. Also they are both easily controlled by anther person who has your password to make changes. Say i need a website or ap blocked, i can just text my buddy and he can log in and make the changes from his phone. Thats something the iphone does not have..

Turn off mobile data when your using your phone. You won't be able to go on the internet but you can still call people.

We use qustodio in our household. It is a software program that we had to pay for unfortunately. But it does work on androids, iphones, computers, kindles, etc. On my SO's phone, certain applications are just entirely blocked such as the browser, google play store, settings, youtube, etc. He realized he only ever used those apps when he was searching for porn so we blocked them and he can still access the other apps he needs to. It also has a setting to block inprivate/incognito browsing which is helpful in a household with kids that all have their own computers, tablets & phones. You can set certain internet categories to be blocked entirely or just to be monitored and email you any and all activity taking place in those categories. You can set it to block certain things at certain times or after x amount of hours of usage or lock the device entirely if you'd like. You can receive email alerts within seconds of someone attempting to go on or use any blocked or monitored app, webpage, etc or you can change your notifications to receive your email alerts less frequently or not at all. It also can be set to be hidden on a device, although the second the person attempts to go on a blocked app or webpage, the entire screen turns sky blue and informs you that it's being blocked by Qustodio. So it's not a stealth program by any means. I dont know how helpful or realistic it would be for one person to pay $100 to help block or monitor themself. But if it's a family with kids or you're in a relationship with a porn addicted partner that wants you to monitor their phone for their own accountability and your own piece of mind, then go for it. All in all, spending approximately $8 a month for my family and for piece of mind is worth it in my opinion. But if it was just for my partner, I don't know if I'd be as understanding.

What keeps you from just turning it back on? The idea of a blocker is its blocked.. if i could just turn of mobile data and that worked you might as well say just dont look at porn.. but as an addict i will look no matter what.. so only solution is no way to look as its completly blocked with no access at all.

As addicts, no doubt we need help. But there's also the reality that there will always be a way to find P somehow. If we get desperate enough, we'll find it. Therefore, I believe what we're really trying to do is setup enough barriers to give ourselves time to realize we shouldn't be doing these things and choose wisely. For some, maybe all they need is the data stop. Maybe others need a random password they don't know. Maybe the situation changes over time.

Just use your will power & force yourself not to look at it.

That has never worked for me ever.. problem is at times im on fit ground and im ok.. but if im really tired or angry or emotimaly hurt my defenses are down and i dont care and want to escape the negative feelings.
So if i have access to P i will use it.. i got 7.5 months M free. Longest i have ever had. Its mostly because of blockers.

Look, this entire thread was started by a guy just asking for blockers for Android.
Not a debate on if people should use them or not.

Hey guys, feeling super depressed and I think there is a direct correlation between that and porn.. well they say porn can cause it, but I'm feeling more depressed, and I really want to watch porn! I think it's gotta do with the dopamine fix.. It must have ...

Well, if anyone needed examples, these quotes are great at showing the wrong thing to say to a person who is struggling with an issue that directly subverts willpower and strength.

These could be helpful and constructive if they actually discussed methods or techniques. What to do when someone is weak or low on willpower. Even mentioning that even with compulsions and addictions, the point of relapse is a decision formed from a lapse in willpower.

But they didn't, now we have an example.

More on topic, porn blockers, content filters, and limited access are great temporary deterrents not memt for permanent use.

They may even be essential to starting the path of recovery until working healthy habits are established and effective.
I myself am looking for Android software support for free content filters and blockers.

Also need PC relevant stuff too, but that's off topic
