Haha! I just got a funny e-mail from a scammer

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by Deleted Account, Jan 2, 2019.

  1. A scammer sent me an e-mail with this funny text, which made me laugh a lot (excerpt):

    >>>>I am well aware XXXXXXXX one of your passwords. Lets get straight to the point. Neither anyone has paid me to investigate about you. You don't know me and you're probably wondering why you are getting this email?
In fact, I placed a malware on the X streaming (pornographic material) site and there's more, you visited this website to have fun (you know what I mean). While you were watching video clips, your web browser began functioning as a Remote control Desktop having a key logger which gave me access to your screen and also web camera. After that, my software program obtained your entire contacts from your Messenger, social networks, and email account. Next I created a double-screen video. 1st part shows the video you were viewing (you have a fine taste hehe), and 2nd part shows the recording of your cam, & it is u.
You get 2 possibilities. We are going to explore these possibilities in aspects:
Very first alternative is to just ignore this message. Then, I most certainly will send your video to almost all of your personal contacts and also you can easily imagine regarding the shame you feel. Keep in mind in case you are in a committed relationship, exactly how it is going to affect?
Other choice is to pay me USD 987. I will describe it as a donation. In this situation, I will promptly delete your videotape. You will carry on with your daily life like this never happened and you would never hear back again from me.<<<<

Oh boy, I am so glad, that I didn't watch porn for over 31 days now! I wonder, what video clips this scammer was recording. Me, watching funny cat videos on youtube? Or me watching the NoFap-Videos? And he recorded me fapping? With my web camera that has duck tape on its lense?

So without bad conscience I can put this e-mail into the trash folder ... but it was good for a laugh and made my day :)

  2. It's a fairly well known scam. They didn't record you. You can just junk it.

I've had the same scam on my work computer (no webcam, no porn).

  3. There was another similar thread here in NF about this scam a few months ago.

I got the same message. Those suckers actually got hold of an old password of mine that I hadn’t used in years.

Just ignore the email. Nothing has happened to me.

Yeah I often receive this same scam.

Along with another one that claims “someone has logged into your account, please sign in to confirm that this wasn’t you”
And then it will present the website in the email.

Hoping that I will fall for it so they can have my password. It’s pretty confusing and convincing. I’ll give them that. I bet many people have fallen for it.

I see that you are another person who is careful about webcams, we think alike. But be careful, paranoia is a powerful drug.

  6. Yaaah, man I know what you're talking about. this 1's pretty similiar to the other 1 too...

  8. I live in a shared apartment with the landlady. She had got such an email recently (similar to what you described; telling her to pay an amount of money in bitcoin or else they'll send all her contacts emails with explicit images from the webcam and details about use of porn websites )

Obviously I am the PA here, not her. My question is, is there a chance that I was the one meant by the blackmail, but because she owns the internet service (or some other related reason), the emails where sent to her instead, or is that irrelevant or just a coincidence?

I wanted to post a thread about this but found this one, so I thought I'd ask the question here. According to posts here it should not be a worry, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

No mate, as far as I'm aware those emails are totally random, so nothing to worry about. But since there's plenty of PAs out there who aren't aware of this scam, the guys who send the emails might still end up with some money.

  11. I’m not sure how radom they are. The email I received had the exact password that I had used for a filthy site I frequented over ten years ago. One that I stopped visiting, password that I never used anymore. I ignored it.

Even if the password had been current I would have ignored the email. The way I saw it, I’ve got to suffer consequences for my bad actions and that would have been one of them. I’ve lost a lot of friends already due to my addiction.

I talked to some of the guys in my SAA group and one had also received that scam email. He also ignored it. I shutter to think about all those poor chaps who are truly duped. I read that once you send what they are demanding they’ll keep demanding more.

No problem. I've received one like that as well, no big deal. Plus I had my webcam taped, just like OP, so it's only clear that it's fake. Anyway, a quick google search about this whole thing will reveal to you that it's just a fraud, in case you need reassurance.

Hmm, interesting. Some might get it to appear more realistic than others, but still, I see it as nothing but a fraud. And paying the price wouldn't be an option either, would it? They usually ask for large amounts of money, surely not something I could afford!

Obviously I haven’t watched P in ages but I still have tape over my computer camera. The stuff hackers can do is shocking

  15. If a site is hacked, the scammers can send you an email with your password. If you've used your password on multiple sites, it could have been from an unrelated hack.

It's a scam. Ignore it. It's easier to fake this than to actually get into your computer. If they had done so they would have stolen your bank details instead of sending you this email.

Oh, wait for the one with FBI logos all over it, saying you've been caught watching illegal porn material, and that this is your last chance to pay the fine before being arrested.
