General masturbation discussion can go here too

Discussion in 'Abstinence, Retention, and Sexual Transmutation' started by Deleted Account, May 29, 2018.

  1. I saw that at the end of the description of what this forum is designed to include. I was pleased to read that. The reason being, that there is a significant minority of people in the community that do not watch porn or seldom watch porn - perhaps they do not have an addiction to porn. However, they only have a problem with masturbation. I have seen people saying this getting dismissed before now and told categorically that porn is the monster and masturbation is meh!

For virtually 30 years (ages 13-42), I was a habitual masturbator and I could not bring it under control. Ten years ago, when I first got a computer, I was curious about porn. I didn't realise it at the time, but four years ago I came here when I realised I was addicted to both behaviours. Mine may be an unusual story - to have never seen even a porn mag photo of a nude before the age of 42. But there are people with unusual stories out there. It is imperative people feel that this community accommodates everyone.

  2. Hello IGY,

I will consider making another forum for sexual addictions, excluding porn addiction. That might tidy things up nicely.

I find this interesting, because when I first joined NoFap, people were putting such a huge emphasis on the porn aspect, that many were saying masturbation was basically ok as long as there was no porn.
I had a hard time with that for a couple reasons, because I was already dabbling a bit in semen retention before I stumbled upon NoFap, and I focused more on just not masturbating than not looking at sexual images, but of course I incorporated both eventually. I was a bit bummed to see people knock down the semen retention aspect of it and call it BS or "just some bogus eastern philosophy"...because I felt at my best when avoiding masturbation as long as I could (though, how often someone should masturbate is another discussion.)
I actually let this get to me when people were saying this, and relapsed more than ever after that, because I started to believe it really was all "mumbo jumbo." - What I've felt and experienced on semen retention/NoFap was amazing and better evidence than any "theories" people have told me.

I don't have a problem avoiding porn but I do have sexual thoughts regarding some women I encounter and that is more powerful than porn, however I do believe that avoiding M makes me stronger, more confident , it brings out the best in me in terms of creativity and thought.

Having the ability to control my body, is key, this is accomplished through yoga for example.

  5. really ?? man ! were you living on a space station or sth ? anyways its good for you that you luckily did not discover any kind of porn during your formative years.
but like you pointed out that masturbation is not such a good thing either. so this forum is a very welcome move by the nofap staff.
also going hardmode beyond rebooting has its very unique advantages as well (more free time, less distraction, more drive for achieving goals etc.) which are not present when one's in a relationship. so once again, this is a great subforum. looking forward to some great discussions and threads on this forum.

Through our own experiences we do see, feel and are aware of abstinence from masturbation, the control of our mind and body is essential for human progression

  7. Haha, yeah you might think that. :D It was because I had a very strict religious upbringing. Although I could not prevent myself from masturbating, I knew porn was out of bounds, so I never tried to obtain it. I left home at twenty and my principles held true and I held out for another twenty two years when living on my own. But when I got a computer, I was just overwhelmed with curiosity. Once Pandora's box is opened, it is massively hard to forget what you have seen. :(

  8. Created a new section called Problematic Sexual Behavior. If it fills up, I'll consider splitting it up into separate issue-based sections in the future.

  14. I would suggest, start to read yourself through several journals of people, who have been able to abstain and reboot themselve successfull over the 90 days period. There are many inspiring and motivating texts to find here, if you are willing to explore them, that should answer your questions. It´s an individual process in my opinion, because it depends a lot by your former and actual life circumstances, habits, believes and personal needs.
