Effects of erotic images without masturbation?

    Hi.

Been trying to find some stuff regarding this, but most posts seems to assume that porn/erotic images -> masturbation, and I am curious to any good resources on the effects of just seeing porn/nudes for shorter periods of time, without masturbating. (Imagine receiving a nude on snap chat)

To my understanding, the dopamine release happens upon orgasm, and the really dangerous thing is for this to be associated with porn.

I don't need the LOL YOU BETA CUCK, JUST STOP YOU FGT. I just want some good resources on the subject, if there is any.

Curious to any insights you might have.

  2. Can you clarify something, namely, your reason for asking.

    • Are you trying to ascertain if you have an addiction based on seeing porn for short periods without touching your dick?
    • Are you accepting that you are addicted to porn and want to know if seeing porn for short periods without touching your dick will slow down your recovery?

As for good resources, there is little research in this field. Most that has been done and collated is by scientist Gary Wilson. Check out his website: https://www.yourbrainonporn.com/

Of course. The reason is basically the second point.

After seing most of the usual videos, they made a lot of sense to me, and I stopped masturbating immediately. However, most of them focus around the dopamine rush you get when reaching orgasm, and the association with that release and porn. So while they mention porn a lot, they pretty much always make the assumption of P->M->O.

Essentially, it would be much easier for me to abstain from porn if I knew the effects of just watching it, without the implied M->O.

I basically started thinking about it after browsing reddit, as girls posting nudes of themselves gets upvoted to the /r/all-feed all the time. I can of course take measures to avoid it, but it got me thinking.

  4. I am struggling to see why or how this makes things much easier for you.

It is recommended to avoid P and M and O, so why complicate it? Just abstain.

As far as I understand (from personal experience and things I've read, no resources I can post here unfortunately), the problem is that any type of erotic material will release the dopamine rush, even without M and O, even if not as great the one the latter two provide. Because of the chemical release, and the fact that it's not something that's consumed physically, there's no real limit to how much we can intake, further desensitizing our brains. Better to M and O without the P.

In the long run it's better to abstain if it is a problem, or if it's becoming one, as it will either give a false ideal for whom we're sexually attracted to, create a greater attachment to erotic material over actual people, and worst case scenario cause PIED and start to negatively affect those around us due to any erratic behaviour it creates in us. It's happened to me, not a pretty sight. You're better off without it, trust me.

Ok, to rephrase, it would be easier if I knew that porn alone was harmful.

To make some kind of analogy, I was always told weed was the gateway drug to harder narcotic substances. The main selling point for not doing weed was not the weed itself, but the potential next steps.

I feel like that is comparable to this. The main selling point for not watching porn, is that it leads to M->O, and you really don't want the dopamine rush you get from orgasm to be associated with anything else than actual sex.

It changes you're brain and increases the neural pathways to porn.If you thinx only orgasme can make you hook to porn thinx again.

I thinx we all know pavlov theory of conditioning.he learned that if you ring a bell and bring foot to a dog. The dog will condition that when there is a bell there is food so when he hears a bell ringing the dog starts to have salivation.
When he stopped giving the dog food when there was a bell. the dog learned there wouldn't become food after the bell.

However pavlov learned that you CAN STRENGHTEN A CONDITIONING by giving the DOG a period withouth food when the bell rings and then suddenly rings the bell with food.. This causes the dog after a few short periods of no food there is food again... I am just going to wait keep waiting to get food if the bell rings.. When doing this it causes much longer to recondition the dog back to normal.

same goes to porn you thinx after days of no orgasme you thinx ok its good. but when you do orgasme oh boy you just strenghten you're body and brain to crave porn for a much longer time. THIS IS WHY EDGING IS WRONG. its strenghten the pavlov conditioning really strong. This may cause you to become really addictive..

you ae basically opening you’re brain for a addiction.

Olso you do know we man don’t need to get a orgasme to get a dopamine kick.

a important note you're brain is thinxing you are fucking hot woman but you are not(even if you don't ejaculate) this results you in having no motivation to speak to hot woman.

because you allready having tons of sex right?

So you don't think the body is able to differentiate between seeing erotic images, and having sex? I don't think evolution would have kept us alive to this day, if that was the case.

Because you do it followed by masturbating, which is the addictive part.

Take it from somebody who has been through every combination of P no MO, MO no P etc... none of it works. Before my current streak my longest was 11 days and the difference has been finally accepting the only way out is no PMO, no edging, touching, or looking at images. When I PMO first thing that starts happening is heart starts racing in anticipation. That's the beginning of the dopamine and my belief that that's when the damage begins. I can't explain the science of it to you, I'm not a doctor. Just my opinion from experience. Good luck to you

What do you mean by "nothing works"? It's hard to keep a long streak going with just some of it?

What I'm saying is the only thing that works is completely abstaining. Touching, looking etc.. even without O will get you nowhere. I've been thru it all

I believe it! No P.M.O.!!! The only way to go.
This post by @ominous1 is all that needs to be said about a complete, hard mode, reboot.
I looked at sexual explicit images during rebooting before and relapsed, or began to feel physically ill.
Become more loving with yourself and others, and less lustful for life.
I think that's what the Buddha tries to teach us by showing that the middle way is the way to peace and happiness.
Let it go. Don't become attached and lustily wanting to possess anything.
Enjoy the moment with each breath you take. That breath is the first step to overcoming this addiction.

How can you say that when you say yourself that your longest streak is 11 days? That's not nearly enough to see the effects of anything.

I think we should stay away of these P.M.O is the best. Make it a lifestyle to avoid porn or masturbate, not a struggle of watching porn or try not to masturbation. Life doesn't work that way, keeping your healthy life style and feel powerful rather than become loser when harming yourself each time masturbate
