Edging is Worse than M or O.

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Apr 8, 2014.

  1. Read this excellent article on YBOP today, thought it would be a good idea to share it.

Here are some lines from the article which hits the nail on its head:

    Is edging bad?
Yes, in fact it's worse. The reason is simple: instead of achieving orgasm and ending it, you train your brain to be bathing in chemicals for hours. It's the worst thing you can do, bar none. The worst. If you began and realise what you are doing in time, stop or rush to the end. Whatever you do, don't keep the pace. Most of us weren't addicted to PMO, but rather to PEO.

  2. Yeah. I would agree with that. Think of the hours and hours we've wasted edging relative to the time we O'd

I wonder how plain old fantasizing fits in this. I sometimes do it for a very long time (without any M or touching). Does that also count as edging?

i have this question also. on my longest streak i had used this as a way out when i have urges. someone once said its OK to fantasize as long as you don't do anything about it. i have continued to use it without success.
my longest streak ended because i had a wet dream on the thirtieth day and i didnt know how to react so i "made it splash" on my own accord right after

  5. It is not edging (masturbation without orgasm). But if you are trying to reboot your dopamine reward circuits it is self-defeating. It is an example of how the brain will try and fabricate a way to get what it wants. I suggest you stop dwelling on sexual images and scenarios.

  6. I would disagree with the advice, "its OK to fantasize as long as you don't do anything about it." If you are trying to stop masturbating you need to keep your mind as clear as possible from sexual imagery and fantasy.

A wet dream does not require a reset as the fantasy, ejaculation and orgasm are not intentional. I assume your reaction, "I 'made it splash' on my own accord right after", indicates that you woke up aroused, you masturbated, ejaculated and had another orgasm. That would require a reset because that was intentional. Can you say what your confusion was - i.e. "I didn't know how to react"?

  7. I would take this a step further and say that even fantasies or day-dreaming are part of edging.

And as @vertigo said above, Rebooting process should comprise of re-wiring the brain and the response mechanism which includes fantasies or daydreaming as well.

That's why the article said - most people suffer from PEO and not PMO.

What if I masturbate for 2 minutes or as long as I get close to the O and then just stop. No more masturbating. Is this edging? What happens to the dopamine-system when there's no orgasm, which means there's no prolactin?

Makes sense. I think this is probably the hardest thing I can ever do during noPMO. You can't run away from your mind. It simply pops up from out of nowhere and it can be rather difficult to remove from your mind especially when you're sitting idle. I won't consider it a relapse however although I still need to stop doing it as it'll only slow my progress and it'll probably make me give in to temptation

I guess I should keep being busier and put my mind off these things.

Spot on. Organise your day and do new stuff. One of the reasons for me getting here was actually the duration of my PMO. My streaks would get longer and longer, even up to 1.5h.

  11. The problem is some of us are just trying to get laid. When I first started this experiment a few months ago I would envision myself in very porno-esque situations with girls I liked at school or work. However, that's changed and I now value them for things other than aesthetic appeal. I listen to their words, laugh at their jokes, test their intelligence and wit.

We humans are sexual creatures by nature. Trying to stifle any and all imagery seems like a self-defeating waste of effort. Why not fantasize about REAL sexual scenarios with REAL women?

A very eye-opening article and discussion. Edging has caused me to waste a lot of time. And after finally identifying it as a bad, negative, self-defeating factor, I'm more motivated to curb it in addition to my PMO.

Yeah I was doing this before I knew what it was called. I thought it was actually better than completing the experience but nope, it is worse. It always led eventually to what I've been trying to avoid for years.

I totally agree. I get confused by a lot of people on NoFap. Surely the goal is to retrain your brain to become aroused to real sexual activity. But many people just want to abstain and see real sex as relapse. I find it mad.
