Dr. prescribed Welbutrin, now life is ruined!

Discussion in 'New to NoFap' started by BreezyBrad, Aug 19, 2017.

  1. Hey! My name's Brad. I've always had minor depression but about a year ago during a physical, my Dr. decided to prescribe me a medicine called Wellbutrin. It worked "well" at first but after I started taking it I noticed my sex drive increased like 1000%. Previously, I only looked at porn rarely, like maybe 20 minutes out of a week, and only masturbated about once a week, as I didn't really have the time or energy after work.

Now though, porn is my life and I'm masturbating what seems like 5+ times a day! It's crazy. I don't even enjoy it! I haven't "felt" an orgasm in months, and basically everything about my body and mind has dropped in quality. I'm masturbating at work and will likely be caught soon and fired. I got pissed off and basically told my girlfriend that we weren't having enough sex, so now she thinks I'm a cave man and she's probably not going to want to go out with anyone else for years now. I'd apologize but she's blocked me on EVERYTHING and based on the look she gave me when we last saw each other, she does not want to ever see me again for any reason.

I did research and found out that Wellbutrin is mainly prescribed to women who want to lose weight and who want higher sex drives. I was like WTF?! Now I think my Dr. just prescribed it as a joke, since he's sort of an asshole anyway and never liked me or my family. I've also lost a LOT of weight and muscle and for a while I thought I might have had cancer or something. Anyway I stopped taking the Wellbutrin but I'm still losing muscle and the insane libido is still there. My apartment STINKS like balls and sweat because I'm too lazy to do anything about it now.

My life is becoming unraveled, WTH do I do?

    Welcome! I'm glad you're here.

I can't give you any advice about Wellbutrin; I'd suggest seeing another doctor.

But if you are looking for help defeating the porn habit, this is the place for you. Lots of help here, don't hesitate to ask.

I don't know you're exact situation, but an obvious thing to try would be to stop taking that drug! I would consult a Dr. first, but I think there is a good chance that your life may improve if you quit the Wellbutrin. It's worth a try right? (I believe anti-depressant drugs are bad news)
Its clear from your post that you already associate the drug with a decline in your living standards. Therefore its seems obvious to me that you should stop taking it (whether or not its really the cause of your problems). Again, its prudent to consult a Dr first, but that's what I would do.
Also, this site is a great resource for quitting PMO, and I am glad you're here! Good luck!

Welcome to NoFap where you are amongst friends who are here to encourage you and sometimes challenge you but not judge you.

Wellbutrin is a stimulant. I have adult ADD and I took it for years. Do more research. You will find other reasons for it being prescribed. I don't know your story so I will ask you this, could it be possible that PMO was a go-to of yours and after taking the stimulant, you chose to go to it much more frequently?

Even if you are correct and your libido was increased greatly, the way you treated your girlfriend was all you. At least own that part.

As it has already been suggested, consult your doctor concerning the affects of Wellbutrin and see if the dosage could be lowered or if you have issues with that doctor, see another one. A mistake you made was stopping the drug because your body has crashed from being on a stimulant to suddenly being taken off one.

Now would be a good time to take a self assessment of your life and see what triggers you have to turn to PMO for escape and comfort. It's a good time to be honest with yourself and see what other issues you have which you have not dealt with. We all have them and if we don't identify and begin to deal with them, our rebooting will be hampered.

PMO is not a cause of our problems. PMO is the solution we choose to deal with our problems and in the process, causes an additional problem itself.

The enemy is here to steal, kill and destroy. What are your current strategies for combating the enemy called PMO?

  5. Wellbutrin is prescribed for several reasons, including depression and anxiety. It's affects can vary on how it affects the patient. Having actually taken it years ago, I like you did not have a positive response to it. It "muted" my emotions to the point I felt almost nothing.

You need to talk to your doc. Drugs like Wellbutrin may require you to cycle off rather than just stop taking altogether. You definitely need something else. Talk to your do asap.
