Does rubbing your penis a little while without cumming count as a relapse

I was really really horny staying awake till 3 am ( the mistake I made) .. I rubbed my penis for a minute and then I stopped . although i never cum , it felt good.

Is this a relapse. This supposed to be my third day on NoFap. Am I starting again?

No it is not relapse , relapse is not until you do full blown orgasm deliberately.
What you did was "edging". its not relapse but try to avoid this type of behaviour because soon you will not be able to control the strong orgasm that will come when you edge.
Its like playing with fire and petrol at the same time, just a matter of time before an orgasm happens and then you will relapse and you will feel sad

  3. agreed... one additional warning - you can start to get a dopamine rush this way and pretty soon you've tricked yourself into getting pleasure with O, but still embracing in bad habits like fantasizing about porn or if you're like me, trying to get rid of unwanted p-induced fantasies..
Not nearly as bad as a full blown relapse but i realized it stagnated my recovery in the past.

Alright, I'll play devil's advocate. Damon27 did not state what his goal was. If the goal was no PMO, wouldn't what he did count under the M category? I am admittedly new to this and am also trying to understand the nuance.

  5. Yes it is a relapse heres why. What you did was some form of masturbation/edging. Edging releases more dopamine into your system than actually orgasming because you never "finish" and you brain is gonna keep wanting it. I've edged before on other attempts of NF and all have ended with orgasm because you eventually edge yourself until you just give up or slip up. So my advice is to just not edge at all one its a massive trigger and you end up playing yourself in the end.

  6. It is good that you only rubbed your dick for one minute. What is not clear is what challenge you have set yourself - are you doing not using porn; NoMasturbation; NoOrgasm or NoPMO? If you are doing only the first challenge, it is not a relapse.

But most people here are doing No P, No M and No O. So, if yu do any of those three things then you have relapsed. What you did was masturbated for a minute. Because you didn't cum and didn't orgasm, some have said ^ it is OK.

However, I basically agree with @LModric.^ In simple terms, masturbation without cumming = edging. This is bad. I suggest you read the following article by a respected scientist in the porn-recovery movement - Gary Wilson:

So, if it is a relapse, that's okay. You now understand it more clearly, and you'll be in a better position to stop yourself the next time.

I consider it harmful but not a relapse. It's harmful because you are creating a dopamine release through lust, which is what causes all of the problems that we are trying to remove. These harmful actions will cause a wet dream which I do consider a relapse. Eventually we get to the point as we become more sensitive where even thinking about women lustfully is just as bad as edging. There are two separate ways of sexuality, one is heart centered, and the other is lustfully, genital centered.
Avoid all lust centered activity and your reboot will not be slowed down at all.

I'm interested in why a wet dream would be considered a relapse. In my understanding, relapses are a result of a choice. As difficult as the choices can be, we choose PMO over abstaining. The reasons may be denial based, they may be because we believe it's the only way to relieve symptoms, but it's still a choice. A wet dream on the other hand isn't a conscious choice as I understand it. It often seems like the subconscious is saying, "Willpower, I don't know why you keep ignoring this obvious crisis, so screw you, I'm going to act anyways while you are unconscious and thus unable to fight back." If there is a dopamine surge, it certainly won't help recovery, but that's not a person's fault.

  10. Exactly Edging/ Masturbation is a result of an actual conscience choice. I believe its be absurd to call a wet dream a relapse as you are in a rested state and can't control your dreams.

I'd never be able to pass a streak of no edging at all.

I do too, but to me, even the little things I consider edging. Like that "scratch" that took a little bit too many seconds too long, to that rolling over on my stomach when sleeping, etc.etc.

This is a misunderstanding that wet dreams aren't a persons fault. Wet dreams are a direct result of lustful thoughts and an over indulgence in sensuality, and always has negative consequences. The reason why it's not looked at this way on these boards is because it is really hard to have this much control over our thoughts at all times in this world that we live in, so this can be too discouraging. I believe that this should not be ignored though, and we need to understand the consenquences of not only our actions, but also our thoughts. If someone represses their lustful tendencies like masturbation but doesn't repress their lustful thoughts, they will ultimately end up failing. We probably shouldn't consider wet dreams a total relapse, but definitely should see the cause and effect behind them, and be conscious that they call for improvement and for us to work harder.
We also must transmute our libido, and this helps us stop lustful thoughts and sensuality greatly, so wet dreams also signal a greater need to work harder in transmutation. Transmutation is so incredibly important.
The more knowledge we gain on what triggers our sensuality and making this path harder to follow, like eating garlic for example, then we improve the odds of success.
In order to succeed we need to fight from all angles, and remain at highest guard at all times because this is an incredibly tough battle we are fighting.
When we loose energy because of a wet dream, it causes harm and stress on the body, and stress is a very large trigger towards lust, sensuality, and masturbation. Energy is needed in order to keep up the guard we need to constantly be on, and is needed for concentration and focus.

Im not saying that we should consider wet dreams a relapse, because recovery of a pure mind is a slow and long process so they are bound to happen, so maybe on a physical level we shouldn't consider them a relapse, but at the next level when we really need to keep up purity of thoughts, once physical masturbation is conquered, we will need to conquer mental masturbation.
Sorry if I am confusing, I am still putting my own thoughts together and writing this has helped.

  16. Sorry, but that^ is not what edging is. Here is a comprehensive definition: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orgasm_control

Orgasm control, also referred to as edging, is a sexual technique which may be practiced either alone or with a partner and involves the maintenance of a high level of sexual arousal for an extended period of time without reaching orgasm...

  17. WOW - the total mind control. You already realized it? This vision frightens me. Controlling mind by mind? Good luck. Focus your mind on what you really want - and everything will be fine. You want true joy, true happiness, true love.

No that's not it, it's controlling mind by will, not mind.
"Self imposed discipline is the surest way to increase your quality of exsistance"

Isn't this what we are doing here at nofap? We are controlling mind with will, so why is this scary to you if I may ask?
Personally, I am more happy than ever before, and more free than ever as well.

    Hi Igy!
I think what he was trying to say is that he wants to avoid anything that he does that is like masturbation, and humping sheets because it feels good is just another form of edging of masturbation. As we gain success down this path, we become more sensitive to physical pleasure in the genital region.
Eventually, when we have stopped all physical masturbation for a long time, completely rebooted, and even gained some mastery, we gain the great benefits of having our brains and imaginations become more developed as well. These results make us more sensitive to even mental masturbation, so it's not a stretch at all to say that humping sheets or just rubbing something on your penis a little is incredibly pleasurable, which is just like edging if prolonged.

  20. But he wasn't talking about humping the sheets or rubbing something on his penis. What he actually said was:
