Hi all, i have long term chronic pain that ive been dealing with for about 2 years now. i find that i search out porn sites when the pain is at its worst as a 'relief' method (boredom doesnt help either) of course my pain nad misery/ regret afterwards is worse but thats how it has been sometimes.

does anyone else out there have something similiar they can share? how do you deal with it?

I can relate. I have burning fevers, or cold sweats, muscle and joint pain, back pain, sinus pain. Lots of guys say the brain sends pain signals and convinces you the dopamine from PMO is a cure. I am still in the painful process of rewiring my brain and body, and I expect to have convulsive physical pains for at least 30 days. I hope I have the grit not to give in and fail. Best wishes to you. Good luck.

Yup. I've had daily back/neck pain for about 4 years now and porn was definitely my go-to-drug.

  4. Not myself personally, but you're definitely not alone - heard of this from at least several people. Using porn is a very effective escape behavior that will help you distract yourself from physical pain, emotional pain, an unsatisfying life, etc. You sound like you have an entirely legitimate reason to require some sort of escape behavior / coping action to deal with chronic pain... I think a good way to handle it is to try and find something just as effective as porn, something that isn't as harmful.

Have you tried yoga, light cardio exercise, meditation, soaking in a hot tub, reading or listening to a book, or other healthier "escapes"? It is hard to provide specifically recommendations because I don't know the details of your physical ills and what you're interested in. But I still hope this helps! Sending good thoughts your way.

I can relate too. Pain, chronic or acute, used to send me directly to PMO until recently. I find it more important to work on my health and well being to avoid PMO than trying to exercise will power. Indeed, the later tends to be, in my case, just an effect of the former.

The things you mention ("burning fevers, or cold sweats, muscle and joint pain, back pain, sinus pain") have been, in my case, produced by a chronic fungal sinus infection that I haven't gotten rid of yet, with the added difficulty that it was very difficult to pinpoint my sinuses as the problem (the pain is not always felt there). Take a look at this:

    http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/2322/The-Sinus-Flush

It works very well if you are careful and the problem are your frontal sinuses.

thanks Alexander- i appreciate the response man!

i read and exercise and meditate and find this very helpful although the pain is sometimes too intense to sit still. interestingly ive started looking into some resources from John Kabat-Zinn who specializes in Pain Relief Meditation specifically. as with everything i need to keep practising :)

I have fibromyalgia and can relate to what you are asking. There were days when I couldn't deal with the pain and I knew PMO would distract my mind from the pain and make me feel better for the moment. But obviously it's not a long term fix. And I know it's definitely like taking narcotics, it's not going to work the same forever and it's going to destroy your mind and body eventually.

I have since worked in my diet and exercise and that has helped my pain way more than any pill or PMO session.

Oh yes definitely. I suffered from low back pain for years. I had a sports injury which fucked up my back of course. Ironically, nothing could be done about it. I went from doctor to doctor and each one said: "I don't know what's causing your pain." I've tried everything: light exercise, PT, acupuncture, you name it! I've tried it all. And of course I've used PMO to escape the chronic pain. Have you read Dr. John Sarno's book on Tension Myositis Syndrome(TMS)? It's a mind body pain disorder. Read about it. Doctors said I needed surgery, that I had fibromyalgia, that I couldn't lift and bend, but it was all BULLSHIT!! For me at least. Lately I've been reading his books and I've been doing things normally again. I have a long way to go though. Before, I couldn't sit for 30 minutes because I "thought" it was my back. Now I can sit for hours. I can do power yoga: my favorite exercise. And more! Talk to your doctor if you have TMS just to rule out any other physical ailments. If it sounds too good to be true, I recommend that you read Dr. Sarno's books. Good luck.

Wait, doctors have told you that you have fibromyalgia too? That's the same thing they said to me and I've tried every single physical treatment there is. One thing I know about doctors is some of them will not tell you the truth. Once I was diagnosed with "fibromyalgia" and I though it was bullshit. And it was for me at least. Like I told LouMan, have you read Dr. Sarno's books on TMS? It's a mind body disorder when all physical treatments have not worked. It's not your body that's physically causing your pain, but it's your repressed emotions like anger and anxiety. Sounds crazy right? That's what I thought until I read his books. But definitely talk to your doctor to rule out other physical ailments just to be sure. Believe me, my pain has decreased dramatically even though I have a lot long way to go. Doctors said I needed surgery, that I had to baby my back forever, and other bullshit. Guess what? I've been doing things that I enjoyed and have been doing before I had my injury. Sorry for the rant, but I don't like doctors. And if you still think I'm crazy, just read at least one of his books. It helped me, maybe it might help you.

I PMO to "feel good". Sometimes that is in response to some stress or mood issue obviously. The less I have to do, the more likly I am to go jerk off.

Lets face it, using our hand we have the ability to "feel good on demand", without any issues. You don't have to hear about a headache, go out to a bar and pick some woman up, go through rejection, self confidence isues, or whatever. Its easy. If you can edge for 15-20 minutes... you feel even better.

The Porn Part was only introduced because looking at hot women when doing this, was even better than using our imagination.

However, if you are doing it because chronic pain, I am not sure what to tell you. It is obvious why you do it, but how would you stop? Sheer will power I guess. You will need to find other things to fill your life with.

Thanks guys for the responses regarding my condition. I never truly believe everything my doctors tell me. I know they mean well but sometimes they are just not as in tune with my body and its conditions as I am. I've read about everything there is to read abot concernig FMS and all the possible variations. I've been tested, poked, medicated, for the last couple years trying to figure out why I was having pain. Long long story short, meds always have me the worst side effects and never truly helped anything for me. I finally turned to God, diet, and filling my mind with positive things rather than junk.

Concerning my diet, the first thing I tried was a Gluten Free diet. It did t seem to work until I had a slip up and felt even more intense pain than before. This happened a few times over the first year and I realized after about 3 weeks my body returns to a 'normal' state of pain. If I have gluten/wheat then I'll be in severe pain for about the first week and a half then it gradually dulls down. My 'normal' now still isn't 100 percent of what I used to be, but it's about 90 percent less pain than I've been so I am happy with it.

I've also attacked it at the mental front regarding porn, trash media, and time wasting activities. I tend to be more relaxed with issues thus rise up and am very conscious of trying to maintain a relatively stress free life. Hard to do with 3 young children, and all of the regular life stuff. But it's definitely added to my enjoyment of life.

Exercise, I basically do just walking and stretching. I do the occasional push-ups, sit ups, and more slightly intense stuff, but my body definitely reacts better to stretching and yoga type exercise. Stretching has been awesome even though it's not technically exercise but it helps my body feel more at ease.

  16. I can relate too. I started getting cluster headaches two weeks ago, and while that makes me a noob to chronic pain, they are still damn intense. The headaches come in the afternoon every day (without fail) and last until nightfall, with intense waves of pain washing through my skull. I broke my streak when it first started out of frustration at the universe or whatever- the sheer helplessness of it all got to me, I guess- there isn't a cure for cluster headaches and it's not well understood. I don't know how long I'll have daily headaches for, as I have been alive for 20+ years or so without ever experiencing this- so hopefully relief soon. Otherwise, something new will have to be done to deal with it. Good luck man.
