Do I get rid of my porn collection?

I have collected porn photos and videos since the late nineties. I even have old VHS tapes, DVDs, and magazines.

How far do I go with this? Get rid of everything? Does it matter if it is softcore porn? And yes I have a particular fetish. I don't like calling it that, just something I really like. So most of my pictures are related to it. What about posters with woman models on them?

I am guessing this has been asked before, but I will ask again for myself and others on this forum.

Yes, why keep them and why do you need them? I am sure everyone in the forum would suggest you to get rid of them all for the best of it.

Without a doubt, yes, get rid of everything, otherwise the temptation will always be there and it will be too easy to relapse. I did the same when I started, I deleted every single porn video and photo I had on all my devices and installed blockers to try and limit the amount of accidental triggers I am subject to when browsing the internet.

Regarding softcore porn, I would argue that its just as bad as regular porn, but more insidious, as its easy to look at it and think that you arent really relapsing when in reality you are. If you want to succeed in this you need to go hard or not bother.

Yes, it must be done. About an hour ago I deleted everything and I found myself restoring the folder many times from the Recycle Bin before I finally did away with it. I have also overwritten every file so it's now unrecoverable and I feel like sh*t frankly however if I hadn't I would have sneaked a peek at some point and there's a lot of negative emotions contained in those images and I just want a fresh start. I wish you well.

Wow, your situation sounds so similar to mine. I had a large collection of porn that had been steadily growing over the years, and I also have a particular fetish (more of a preference for certain body types than a fetish), which drove me to collect even more. I can safely say that I never would have been able to start my reboot successfully unless I had gotten rid of it all.

I had tried quitting so many times before I got on my current streak. I failed every time, and every time I always had my collection to fall back on. The fact that it was there made me feel more comfortable with the idea of relapsing. I knew that if I relapsed I would fall back into familiar territory, into my own personal library of women I find attractive. I had to delete it all to succeed.

I think that if you get rid of your collection, you will end up laughing about how easy it was to get rid of it, and you will feel better about yourself almost immediately. When I got rid of my collection, I felt so good I was laughing out loud to myself and practically dancing with euphoria. Trust me, getting rid of that collection is one of the best decisions you could possibly make right now, and I also think it's a necessary step towards your recovery.

What are your immediate goals and long term goals? Are you here because porn has caused problems in your life that you're trying to address? By keeping that around, it seems like you're telling yourself "I'm going to go back to porn eventually, and when I do, this will save me some effort in finding my fetish again." You never know when that urge to see that one picture or movie will strike and lead you back down that rabbit hole if it's around.

  12. Great question!
When I started facing my sex addiction about 7 years ago I had porn, toys, clothing and sexually related things EVERYWHERE. I had at least a dozen boxes full of magazines (including 300+ of a particular magazine dating back to the sixties). Now I have about 1 and a half boxes. The downside is that those are all the ones that were the hardest to get rid of!

Maybe once or twice a year, I'll find the willingness to just grab a DVD and chuck it without looking at it first. Otherwise I feel like just looking at the cases is triggering enough and I have a really really hard time throwing away any porn without looking at it first. So, for the time being, I'm just keeping it in the box(es), or the drawer(s), or the 6 foot tall storage cabinet that is stuffed with naughty books . . .

    So my thoughts are this:
If nothing else, PUT IT AWAY and keep it out of sight!
If you can throw it away . . . DO IT! It might not be easy but you won't really miss it that much. You'll feel more free without it.
For me, digital stuff was a lot easier. Pushing a button isn't that hard. And I always knew that I could find all that and more for free on the world wide web (Damn you Al Gore for creating the internet! Haha!)

Best of luck to you and keep us posted!

Well, do you still need these things? If not, why keep them? If yes, what are you here for?

I recently got rid of all my metal CDs (about 100), because I don't identify as a metalhead anymore. Already got rid of all my T-shirts two years ago. Never regretted it. The same goes for other stuff. You will feel liberated afterwards. Of course you need to want it yourself, but if you decide to do it, I am confident it will boost your recovery.

Do it. Don't mull over it, don't hesitate, and don't ask again. Make it quick and sudden. Keeping that stuff is contradictory and harmful to healing yourself.

If you’re a porn addict then yes! If you’re afraid of progressing into a full blown porn addict then yea!

Since you’re on this site, I’m assuming you are trying to stop because you regret it and it causes you pain, if so then get rid of all of it.

Remember addiction of any kind is an actual chemical change in the brain; it’s literally a brain disease. So the rationalization you are experiencing (if you’re an addict) is caused by the addicted brain. Porn, all porn is bad for a porn addict. Your brain doesn’t discriminate between soft core and hardcore. It will still trigger the same arousal part of the brain that is addicted.

Yup as everyone on here said, delete it. I wont lie but when I first started Nofap I couldn't bring myself to do it. I think it was until day 45 It finally lost its control over me and I deleted the main P folder on both my pc and phone. All that left is an old backup on a hard drive somewhere. Eventually ill delete that too but its nowhere near as complete as the one on my PC.
