Hello all. I'm glad to be a member of this community. And much love, gratitude, and kudos to its founders and managers.

I searched for a thread about this topic, but couldn't find one, so I'd like to create this thread as a place to share tips about diet through the NoFap journey. And by diet, I do not mean following a specific fancy diet; I mean nutrition and what to eat.

I'm personally very curious what others have found out, either by reading, researching, trial and error, or personal experience.

What drinks or foods help after masturbation or relapse? Many people who masturbate regularly or even repeatedly on one day palpably feel the negative effects of the habit; that mild pain in the knees, drowsiness all over, lethargy and laziness, depression, and so on. Do you know of any drinks or foods that help with such symptoms, at least a bit? Or foods that can replenish the body after ejaculation, providing needed sustenance after that liquid was spilled?

More importantly, what foods and drinks—if any—can help depress sexual desire a bit, when needed?

One tip I can share from several books I have read is that willpower is like a muscle, can be strengthened, but also fatigues after repeated use throughout the day; so if you've been resisting other temptations for a while, that consumes energy, energy that can be replenished by getting some glucose into your bloodstream. If you feel that your willpower is getting weak, or you're becoming agitated easily or something like that, then start by drinking or eating a tiny portion of a food that will quickly give you some sugar; there are countless junk-food, candy, and chocolate options for this, but I highly recommend healthier options like honey, raisins, and other dried fruits. Don't eat too much of that, though, just a bit to rapidly replenish glucose in your bloodstream. Follow that with a proper, healthy meal as soon as possible; wholemeal pasta or bread for complex carbohydrates, or some healthy, home-made protein, like chicken or meat.

Many thanks to others sharing tips or supporting the thread.

I would disagree with inundating your body with sugar. Sugar is addictive. The idea here is to bring your entire mind and body back into balance, so I don't think sugar is going to help you, but if you personally find that eating a candy helps you, then by all means do it, but I think you are better off not reverting to it...

I know you said its to improve your will power, but that is accomplished by focusing.

    Let me explain:
When I want to diet to lose weight, it takes me anywhere from 3-5 weeks to reach a level of discipline and focus where I am able to resist sugar cravings, over eating, fatty foods, etc, etc. At the start of this, I have one HELL of a time to stop eating sweets of some type and often times, I will have a perfect 1700-2000 calorie day, including gym, then raid the fridge at 10pm and eat about one liter of ice cream. Awesome eh? I can't stop myself, its harder than no fapping.

However... by keeping at this for a few weeks and trying harder, I slowly but surely get over the cravings, and before I know it, I can go indefinitely without any cravings for sugar. My brain enters some phase that I can only describe as being calm and resistant to cravings.

This is how I treat NoFap for myself. It is what I did last year when I stopped for about 4 months, and it is what I am doing now again. It took me one month to get over the fap cravings, but now I have gone almost 2 weeks without any cravings. They will come, I will be ready, and I will deal with it.

Anyways, for nutrition, I recommend just getting a proper diet.

I was reading a lot last year about certain vitamins you can eat to try and help yourself heal your brain a bit faster, but I really forgot what they were as I went to Greece for a few months. They were things that certain drug addicts could take, and they were about helping the brain normalize somewhat faster...

    Just my 2 cents.

I found what I had researched last year:

    Leptin Levels:
Main thing I got out of the research I read is to cut out sugars, fructose, grains and try to start out your morning with a big protein rich meal and never eat within 4 hours of bed, so you are getting about 11-12 hours of "fasting" in each day. They also said to only have 3 big meals a day instead of eating all day long.

Some people will do 2 full days a week where they "fast" (maybe Jesus had a point for fasting on Wednesday and Friday each week). Those days, you would eat less than 500 calories.

No, I never did this and I meant to research it more but never did.

The idea is that you are allowing your brain to return to normal faster.

So go research Leptin Levels and Addiction and let us know :)

Thank you very much for your input.

I agree with some of the things you mentioned. So I'm only going to comment on the points that my research clashes with:

    • As I mentioned in my original post, my recommendation in emergencies is "drinking or eating a tiny portion of a food that will quickly give you some sugar" (emphasis added) for the purpose of sending a quick jolt of glucose in your bloodstream, which is required for willpower, and that obviously has nothing to do with "inundating your body with sugar". Tiny portion does not equal inundating. And willpower is not just a spiritual or mental power; research has proven that it is also a physical power that consumes energy from food, especially glucos (research willpower and Roy Baumeister). So if a person is feeling weak, and it's an emergency, they need to quickly bolster their willpower with glucose, and the things that do this quickly are sugary foods (just a tiny portion is enough). Also, as I mentioned in my original post, while candy is a harmful and disfavored option, I strongly recommend honey (and no sane educated person in this world says that honey in moderate portions is addictive or can in any way harm—honey is one of the best foods on earth), or dried fruits, or even a small sweet fresh fruit.

    • Sugar is not addictive; it is the emotion that sugar gives that may become addictive for some people. But sugar in and of itself is just a food, if eaten in moderation and from natural sources, it is actually a necessity for a healthy life. Depriving oneself from any natural food is never healthy. Diets that promote this sort of thing are misleading fads or crazes that fade away in due time.

    • Fat is not harmful; for the nth time, in moderate amounts, fat is actually an essential nutrient. Think of omega 3 oils from fish, for example.

    • Balance, which is a word some people use a lot, is never achieved by "eliminating" foods like sugar, fat, and carbs from one's diet, but by eating moderate (again and again that word) amounts of each type of food, as long as it comes from natural sources. And, by the way, natural sources (like corn and sunflower), which later on enter a factory and undergo heavy mechanical and chemical processing to extract certain foods from them, do not lead to end products "from natural sources". Yes, the food or oil may come from natural plants, but the closest source of the end products becomes a factory of chemical & mechanical processing, not earth or nature; thus the foods produced are not really from "natural sources", they're from a factory. Oils that are from natural sources include olive oil and melted butter.

    • While fapping needs to be completely eliminated, trying to completely eliminate a specific food, like sugar, from one's diet, is not only impossible for 99% of people, but also counter-productive. Depriving the body from a specific food that nature provides creates strong cravings that have a very high probability of leading to binge eating from the deprivation. Again, moderation in eating everythingn natural is the healthiest way to go, and virtually eliminates pressure on one's body and willpower.

    • Regarding fasting, Muhammad is also reported to have fasted two days a week, Monday and Thursday; and that's besides the oligatory month of Ramadhan. But guess what the first thing he usually took when breaking his fast at sunset? Dates. Very sweet, dried fruits, which is one of the things I recommended. And if not available, milk (which has some natural sugar and protein). It's like he instinctively knew what the body (and brain) will need the most after a day of fasting.

I'm a qualified Personal Trainer and nutritionist for physical activity, by the way. Before studying for my diploma, I read about nutrition and sports for more than 10 years. There are a lot of misconceptions out there, mostly produced by greedy corporations or individuals (greedy or well-meaning) trying to attract customers with a new flashy "discovery". What I learned is that the healthiest way to eat is to eat everything available naturally, moderate portions of each available category or component of nutrition, including fat and sugar, with emphasis on "moderate portions of each". And focus on eating natural foods or foods that occur naturally, coming directly from earth or its farm animals, and which did not suffer from any human interference via factory processing, acceleration, or genetic modification, no interference other than cooking (and only when it is better to be cooked and has traditionally been cooked before industrialization and the corporate age).

Other than that, what I do not have enough knowledge about, yet, is the type of foods that help specifically with masturbation or "excessive repeated ejaculation" (without enough recovery time and via an unnatural process like masturbation).
