    Hi Gary,
I love your work and research. I'm interested to know what you think actually happens to dopamine receptors when someone has severe PIED. I literally woke up one morning and couldn't get an erection or aroused at all. I had been masturbating to porn just fine the night before (26 year old, physically fit and healthy. Watched and edged to porn almost daily, often 3+ hour sessions). I went from 100% erection hardness to 0% in the space of 12 hours (back in Feb last year).

Did my brain really 'fry' overnight? Did my receptors somehow collapse and mutate overnight? I don't understand why the onset was so quick. I thought the brain changed gradually...
I understand desensitisation, but this seems more extreme. I was turned on fully the night before, watching hardcore porn. The next morning the same porn did nothing. First time in my life.

You're input here would seriously help myself and others,
    Thanks,
    T****

    GARY'S RESPONSE:
    Hi

PIED goes way beyond dopamine receptors - that much I can be certain of. We don't know what specifically occurs with PIED - o the than down-regulation of the reward system and conditioning one's arousal to everything associated with porn use. Since PIED cannot be studied in animals, like drug addiction can, we are decades away from knowing the specifics.

Changes are usually gradual, so I would have myself checked out by a good physician. We have heard of guys saying that it felt like it occurred overnight, but that is rare - and we don't know if those men had other physiological problems.

Your case does sound unusual - so make sure you explore other causes while you try to quit porn.
I wish I had more insight, but many aspects of PIED are hard to explain - such as young men no longer getting morning wood.

    Good luck,
    gary

That dude is such an idiot. He limits a lot of guys' very serious sex-related issues to their sometimes debatable (over)usage of pornography. If only he had a clue of how the brain and gut actually work and how (over)masturbation adversely effects them. Brain is one thing but fucking yourself up by masturbating, edging and/or ejaculating too frequently is what will really get you.

There's a very good reason Gary always suggests to guys that something might be underlying. He doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.

If I were you, I'd stop communicating with him; I'd start doing research on my own. Look into Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Keep in mind that knowledge of past centuries far surpasses the garbage that we get today in our dumbed-down society.

  3. I appreciate mister Wilson's work very much, he's doing all he can to help a lot of young men so I disagree with Brad87. That being said, I think you should take other possibilities and factors into account. For instance you are not saying how you're doing now, are you still experiencing the same problem? Also, you could have been tired or maybe you were worrying about some issues that were causing the sexual dysfunction.
In any case you're probably tired and it would be best to just stop watching it for your overall wellbeing.

    Take care.

Tired? for a whole year? I don't think tiredness caused my ED lol.

I've watched porn today for the first time in 50+ days or so. And I masturbated. It felt great and I felt horny.
    I chose not to orgasm.
I will reset my counter and carry on with no pmo.

  5. Hi, you didn't mention the time frame in your first post so that was a little unclear.
    Good luck.

Sorry if it was unclear. But yes, my penis very suddenly stopped getting hard or aroused in February 2016. There have been ups and downs but I've only achieved a full 100% erection 4-5 times since then. Once in May, twice in august, twice in november.
