I doesn't bother me, I've been targeted much much worse.
I'm clearly for free speech.
Deleting of postings is last resort!
If you feel that a discussion goes out of control, then maybe offer to split the thread, and/or move it to another section.
Yep. Very good point. Cheers.
This thread can be moderated, closed or deleted now.
Whichever would be most practical and beneficial to all.
@alexander @OutsideTime @Rubidium
I read through this thread and I see that you are upset because you believe you are being over-moderated, well not just you but others in this thread as well, and about posts being deleted say in an off-topic thread when they have nothing to do with the OP. I am just reiterating what I have read and want to make sure that I am on the same page as the rest of you.
I would like to hear suggestions on how it could be done better. That is one of the reasons this thread was created from the sounds of it. What can be done differently? I believe in one of the posts someone said why don't they take the posts that aren't on topic and put them into a new thread. I would like to hear more suggestions on how it can be made better. Besides that one suggestion, I haven't seen any others.
A non-serious section or non-serious thread, a zone where people can blow off and let loose. That much solves answering the need people have for banter while cutting down on the amount of moderation-time needed. The downside of this one is that it may increase the load on the servers. These kinds of places tend to attract more posts, and overall posting goes up. So, the caveat in this idea is increased server costs.
Re: idea of moving off-topic posts
I'd have to argue that being more diligent with moving posts in this manner would need a larger staff. It's a great idea, but it needs manpower to fill its caveat.
I am not in favour of this idea. We all enjoy a little humour, even on serious threads. However, I do not believe it is in the remit of this site to produce a farce-forum. The off topic section often has serious threads as well, that simply do not fit under the other forum descriptions. I have seen humour become quite divisive on here. There was a humour thread set up a year or so ago, but one of the participants took offense at some of the jokes made at his expense and he left! I think that he may have been called 'Dave'. @Lazarus Shuttlesworth may remember him or the situation that unfolded.
@Star Lord and @Deadlihood have been exchanging humorous banter for months, but now there is friction, so be careful.
We're on good terms again.
Indeed, @IGY, that is another problem that can happen. Thanks for pointing that out.
I'm not personally against the banter. I quite enjoy it myself. But, I am very much for order and organization. Lack of clarity about what is allowed and not allowed tends to lead to problems. Unfortunately, there is no perfect system or way, and most often it seems like at the end of the day you have to choose what kind of problem you want to have to deal with.
One thing we face overall right now is being able to do the moderation tasks in a timely manner. I often have to focus on the most pressing tasks on me, which results in delays to what most would expect to be quick and easy decisions. There is a due process that is followed to make sure we do things properly. Axiomatically, the more care we put into doing a task, the fewer tasks we are able to do. We can move lots of posts, but the quality of service we can provide will drop. We can provide a good quality of service, but then don't have much to go around.
Right now, I put my personal feelings aside and do my best to enforce the rules as they are drawn out for all to see. I'd like to leave the banter in, but the rules state no off-topic posting.. so that is what I enforce. My prior arguments in this thread were made from the opposite end of my own convictions... I still believe them and mean what I say, but it's not really the contents of the deeper me.
In order to get this changed, the rational behind why it is so must be first understood and then superseded with a superior rational. That is why I made the argument of the current rational, so that its counterpoints could be sounded and compared. I may like banter, but I understand the need for order and place it before my own wants. If we could find a method of order that accommodates banter, I'd be totally for that. It may be a challenge to think of, there are obstacles to overcome, but if it is an important issue I am sure we can plow through it.
And, failing that, at least the current system will be better understood.
Liar! Blackmail's a bitch.
WTF? Screw that. I'm pulling a Dave -- I'm OUTTA HERE!
The question is if you have nothing to contribute to real discussions why are you here in the first place?
If you want to small talk go out and do something.
The difference is a funny 1 liner vs a whiny thread killer.
Thanks, a nice heart felt message like yours is much appreciated.
This only proves my point though. I shall not be a part of this. Please if you would just stay on topic so we can use the site for what its for. Helping each other become better men/women.
I'm forgiving you. Why can't you do the same.
You are forgiven. Sorry if I upset you, and have a great day brother fapnaut.
Peace be with you.
I can see where a separate forum could be fun and where it could get out of control. I have seen quite a few serious convos in the off-topic. I suppose one could make a thread call free for all and then it would be expected to talk about whatever no matter how random it is. I would say that the rules of the forum would apply as far as no attacking people and keeping it somewhat civil.
About taking posts and placing them in a separate thread, that can take a lot of time and resources that we don't have right now. All of the mods that are here at Nofap are volunteer. We don't get paid to do any of this. We are choosing and volunteering to hopefully make this a better community. We actually welcome feedback like this thread, and also should be constructive at the same time so matters can be resolved rather than an all out war between all involved.
What are some other ideas? Please list how it would help the community has a whole and how it could possibly harm the community as a whole. Lets look at the full picture and see if there is something we can do better. We are all for bettering ourselves.
I'm the king of funny 1 liners. @Son of a Bitch is a whiny thread (serial) killer.
