Day 1, long road ahead

    So, started my 90 day challenge today.
    Usual story... Tried so many times to cut out porn and masturbation, only to find myself getting hooked after a few days. Most I've lasted so far is about a week. But over the last few months have been cutting it out more and more for a few days at a time and thinking more about trying to cut it out in general.

    Been pretty much hooked on it since I was 14... 14 years later I know I need to do something. So, day 1 has been and gone. Plan to check in whenever I get the urge to do anything and divert my attention on being more productive. Any guidance on what has worked for others would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Welcome GreenDragon and good luck on your challenge.

    Even though I'm new myself to the forums I've been struggling to quit PMO for months and months without success. Decided to join to help keep me accountable and a place to go to share my feelings with others as I haven't told anyone about my problems or my attempt to fight them in my life other than here at NoFap. Just remember something that works for one person might not work for you.

    First, Monday I joined wanting to quit P and M altogether and that only lasted 2 days. That's when I thought about just doing small short term goals. So far it is helping and I'm about to meet my first one of being 3 days PMO free. I'll then move on to being 7 days free then 10 then 2 weeks and so on and if I happen to relapse I'll just have to start all over and analyze why I relapsed.

    Second, identify your triggers and try to avoid them as much as possible. As you avoid your known triggers you might start to discover that you have other triggers that you didn't know about. Add them to your list of triggers to avoid.

    Third, once you start having urges immediately stop what you are doing and find something to distract yourself with. Pray to God, go for a walk or exercise, browse the forums on NoFap to help remind you why you are wanting to quit(a lot of us have similar stories about PMO and how it has ruined our lives and why we want to quit). Reading about other's stories may even give you a new perspective on your own addiction and give you another reason to quit. If you know someone that personally knows you are trying to quit PMO give them a call and talk to them about it. Regardless of what you do, do it until the urges pass and you can think clearly again.

    Fourth, find a productive hobby that you like and can fill your time with that you used to spend on PMO and that you know won't trigger any urges.

    I hope my advice helps give you something to think about and just know that you are not alone.

    Many thanks for your reply. I can relate to wanting somewhere to offload feelings and share with others who can understand what it's like.

    I've seen a few posts about breaking down the overall goal in to more manageable tasks. Makes sense really. The idea of 90 days in one go is actually quite intimidating to be honest. My long term aim is to avoid p and m completely by this time next year. I will start by taking today as a milestone. Then I'll use the next few days to set a series of milestones and look at what I can do to get over any sudden urges, taking your advice on board.

    The idea of being around people, like going for a walk, and eradicating the ability to do anything would be a good start.

    Happy to keep in touch if you want to share your progress and can lend an ear.

    Day 2 begins... Woke up thinking about porn, usual urge to masturbate but I pushed it aside and got myself out of bed. Need to keep busy so making breakfast and putting on music to distract. Xmas shopping later should keep me occupied for long enough and family over later.

    Feel better about today. Had a few thoughts but pushed them aside and checked in on here to read some threads which kept me motivated. Will feel more at ease when the first five days are done. After the first 8/9 days are done, I'll be in to new territory with clear breaks, so hoping that will keep me motivated.

    Getting to the end of day two. Some urges but days activities kept me busy as planned. Pushed the last urge aside and checked in on here instead. Decided that rather than focus on specific milestones, I will focus on each day as being an individual task. Can manage 1 day, so treating each day in turn as day 1 rather than day 2...day 3... seems more manageable. Cheers.

    OK, day 3 begins. Cldnt sleep last night so went in to our spare room to try and doze. Normally an excuse to have some alone time and tbh for the first couple hours I could think of nothing more than m while reimagining scenes from various p I'd already seen. But, I held off. Woke up thinking about p so checked in o here. Pushed it aside and now time to get on with my day.

    Thanks. Gone all day with minimum thoughts on p, which I think has led to fewer thoughts of m. Will finish today and start tomorrow off as day one again. One day at a time...

    Getting to the end of day 3. Strange thought but I'm so aware of my penis right now. Again, it's like my body pushing me to just go for it. Determination to prove I can do this is setting in though and I've checked in on here to find some motivation to keep going. I think day 4 will be tough. Christmas day though, should keep me busy thankfully. Will push through to day 5 and take it from there.

    Thank you. Managed to sleep well. Woke up on a couple of occasions thinking about wanting to masturbate but tried sleeping with my arms locked above my head and refused to let myself move them. Just woke up now and thoughts are on m and p but mainly focused on the day ahead and thinking of my family etc. When I've had to go without p and m before, it's generally from about day 4 I find things get hard, so will see how things go up to the end of the week, in the back of my mind. Sticking to my original plan of treating each day as the first day and won't be beaten by 1 day so here goes...

    OK, Christmas day, and fourth day of this process is coming to an end. Busy day with the family here so literally not had time to think about p or m, but have checked in here a cple times to keep things in perspective. Some great threads on here. Determination pushing through again. Day four but again, 'first day of the process', and I sure as hell won't be beat on day one. Hope everyone is doing well and have had a great Xmas. Cheers.

    OK, beginning of day 5. Wide awake and can't switch brain off so I've had to come in to the spare room to avoid disturbing my wife. Problem is I can literally think of nothing other than p and the urge to masturbate. Checked in on here and been reading some more useful journals. Need to keep perspective - it's day 1 of this process and I WONT be beaten by one day.

    OK, so day 5 coming to an end. Been busy seeing family again. Tomorrow and Friday will be challenging. Will be working from home, alone for the 2 days and first time using laptop over the Xmas period. Last few days, although challenging at times, have been rewarding when I think about the lack of pmo. Still aiming for day 14 as my big milestone for now but will be good to get 6 and 7 out the way.

    Day 6 begins. First time back on laptop since the start of the holidays and working from home, alone. Will also be working alone tomorrow from home so going to be challenging. Plan to take lunch early afternoon so will try to go for a walk to have time away from laptop. Starting to feel like I'm achieving something now but still a long way to go. Must remember to take it one day at a time and not think too much about what I might normally feel I've missed out on if I've not been able to watch porn or masturbate before now. Cheers.
