  1. I am aware that Christians say they have a relationship, I've been in churches that teach that and been around Christian that look down on more traditional churches because they're 'dead'. But this relationship with God kinda seems one sided since when you talk to God he doesn't talk back to you. And your conscious telling you things as you read the Bible or listen to sermons isn't really the voice of God, it's your inner conscious and thoughts. Personally, I've never heard the audible voice of God... Maybe other other people have literally heard his or her voice but after almost 20 years of praying, I have never heard God's voice. Yes I have unbelief but that's due to me using my mind to think things through. Why would God give us a mind if we weren't supposed to use it?

Yeah, I do think for someone to have a positive change they need to believe in something (whether that be a faith, themselves or a cause) and also staying away from negativity traits (like hatred, bitterness, malice and being quick to anger), but you don't necessarily need to be a Christian to change.

I have never heard God's external audible voice either. Those who do, most of the time hear His voice once in their life. He certainly can do that but He usually does not. I believe the answer to why He does not usually speak in an audible voice lies in Hebrews 11:6 - "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him."

However, He speaks all the time, 24/7. He speaks in a still small voice. He speaks with impressions that come into the heart. He mainly speaks through His Word, and highlights scriptures that relate to my situation. He speaks through other people (like Shawn Bolz here), sometimes through visions, sometimes through dreams. And you have to know the Word, because if the still small voice contradicts the Word, it's not God.

To wait for God's external voice and only then believe would be like Thomas in John 20:24 -
24 Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”
But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you! 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.
28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
